SHOCKER: No. 1 LSU loses to Arkansas in Triple OT!!
Uncategorized November 23rd. 2007, 6:44pm
We’re joining you late, but Arkansas just converted fourth and 10 in overtime. LSU leads 35-28. Pretty thrilling Friday afternoon game, and all those fellas who vote for the Heisman may be seriously contemplating Arkansas swiss army knife Darren McFadden, who has over 200 yards of total offense including a 73-yard scoring gallop. If LSU finds a way to lose this one, they can kiss the BCS title game goodbye. We’ll be live-blogging the remainder of this one.
Update: ARKANSAS POSSESSION 1ST OT Touchdown, Arkansas! Casey Dick just threw a third-down TD pass to Hillis and we’re going to a second overtime. It’s 35-all, and if you’re reading this on a PDA and can’t get to a TV, just pretend like Verne is saying all this. He’s got the call.
Update 2ND OT: Arkansas has possession first and Felix Jones just peeled off 15 yards around the right side on first down. And McFadden just ran it in for a score and 42-35 Arkansas lead. Man, this LSU D looks gassed.
Update: LSU POSSESSION 2ND OT: Keiland Williams got a couple on the option on the first down option and Flynn just fired a pass to Dixon. It’s first and goal from the 9. Hester bulldozes up the middle for seven. Verne’s wingman just said it – you can’t arm tackle Jacob Hester. Just like you can’t beat us at Connect 4. On second down, Flynn ran the option but didn’t make the pitch and got stuffed at the two. Touchdown, Jacob Hester! Plows up the middle (where else?) and the extra point is good, so we’re tied at 42 and headed for triple OT.
Update: ARKANSAS POSSESSION 3RD OT: Verne just made reference to WVU and Ohio State. Man, he’s on point. Felix Jones up the middle for six. Hillis, a burly FB, gets stuffed on 2nd down. On third and four, McFadden is strangely OUT OF THE GAME. Jones takes the toss to the right and plows to the 14. Looks like a first down. Yup. Hillis for a couple over the right side. CBS just flashed the stat – Arkansas has 500 yards of total offense. Really makes our, ‘LSU wins with defense’ argument look foolish. McFadden goes over the left side and has another first down. He has 206 yards for the game and our family members here just said, ‘he’s fast. And tall.’ Hollis up the middle … TOUCHDOWN! Arkansas calls timeout to draw up a play for two. No MCFADDEN! Unreal. Pitch to Jones and he got in! Wow. Now the pressure is seriously on LSU.
Update: LSU POSSESSION 3rd OT: Touchdown, LSU! Eight-yard scoring pass from Flynn to some guy we’re not familiar with. Now, the two-point conversion. No good! Talk about a bad call. Flynn dropped back to pass – not even a roll out! – and was under duress, and fired a pass to the back of the end zone, and it was picked off. HUGE upset.

Touchdown Hogs, 35-35…what kind of anarchy would this reign down on the BCS?

BUTTers – HOPE YOU’RE not the only one watching. This is a great finish.
November 23rd, 2007 at 6:57 pm
Wait a minute…why does Arkansas have possession to start the 3rd OT?
November 23rd, 2007 at 6:58 pm
That’s a damn good question. I thought they alternated, too.

50-42…for some reason I now have “Hail To The Victors” in my head, I wonder if Les Miles does too
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:03 pm
Les Miles is not a good coach.

Looks like there will be time to make that Michigan decision!

OHHHHHHH!!! Couches will burn in Morgantown tonight!!!
Well this was fun…time to get drunk

LSU is a couple of plays away from being an average football team.
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:07 pm
I guess this means you can’t rank LSU again of ASU in the BCS. We lost to BCS ranked team yesterday. LSU losses to Arkansas. Really?!?! I only half joking. The BCS has really made for an interesting college football year.

This game just proves how great the SEC is. There are no losers here.

Good call Butters! Time to get drunk.
I could not be happier now that the hollier than though our shit doesnt stink SEC will not be represented in the BCS championship game.
Missouri vs WVU in the ship? Will anyone watch?
And how completely overrated is that LSU defense?

*Eagerly awaiting OSU fans to learn of this result and drop by*

Question: Seeing how good Arkansas can be, and seeing how dangerous teams like South Carolina and Tennessee have been at times this season … how many losses would Missouri have this year?
*Silly question, just had to ask it*

This game proved how vitally important Dorsey is to that defense. Dude has been hurt for a few weeks now and all LSU does is give up 400+ yards of offense to unranked teams. All they needed was one stop in OT and they couldn’t get it.

McFadden = Heisman.
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:15 pm
wow. I can’t type worth today. Again = Ahead. There should also be an ‘a’ ahead of the second BCS. I know how grammar is important around these parts. Don’t want to come off as a complete idiot.

I give up. I really need to head back to second grade and learn how to properly structure sentences. LSU education > ASU education.
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:17 pm
What if…
Missouri beats Kansas.
WVU loses to UConn.
Virginia beats VT.
Oklahoma beats Missouri.
Georgia beats LSU.
USC wins out.
What happens then?
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:27 pm
McFadden gets to the edge better than anyone else. Damn that dude is fast
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Go tOSU. If Oklahoma wins out, Bucks are in.
How overrated is LSU and how bad of a coach is miles? Discuss.
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Les Miles had one foot out the door.
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:38 pm
*eagerly awaiting TBL to spin this loss into some Ohio State hate of some kind*
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:54 pm
Why wait? OSU had only one team to beat in their conference while LSU had to run the gauntlet of quality teams week-in-week-out to get to the BCS title game. Their string of luck just ran out.
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:57 pm
Wolverine fans can’t win-it looks like they’ll get their man in Miles, but OSU is pretty damn close to getting into the championship game, which would just about cancel out the joy of having Miles be their man.

Luck has a tendency to run out when you depend on it every week. Great teams don’t let luck play a factor too often.
November 23rd, 2007 at 8:21 pm
That Texas loss opens the door for an Illinois BCS berth.
November 23rd, 2007 at 8:38 pm
Butter/TBL: my brother and I were discussing it and our guess is they didn’t switch possession in order to switch which endzone the teams went towards in the second set of overtimes. So LSU goes first in the LSU end, then Arkansas goes first in the arkansas end, then ark first in lsu end and lsu first in ark end. Of course, that’s totally convoluted and I could easily just google it in the time it took to write this, but I’m too lazy to do it now.
I hope it’s Georgia/OSU, with another blowout loss for OSU.

My question is: what happens next for Houston Nutt? He isn’t staying around at Arkansas after this year. Mandel at SI thinks he might be going to Baylor, but I would sooner retire than go to Baylor. He would be a great fit for Nebraska, but would they go after him again?
