Unreal: Cameron Crazies Mad at ESPN!!
Uncategorized November 27th. 2007, 1:45pm
The Cameron Crazies are upset. Not at an opposing team, player or coach, but rather the beast that is ESPN. Brace yourself, what you are about to read may anger you (our bold emphasis). “It would be classic if, rather than that, whenever the camera panned over them, the Crazies just crossed their arms en masse and stared at the camera until it went away. It would be a mild but effective protest. It probably wouldn’t be as hard to explain as signs and cheers against the Bullies from Bristol, but hey – you guys are creative. We’re sure if you want to let ESPN know you object to their recent maltreatment of one of their major moneymakers, you can come up with something.” MALTREATMENT? (**UPDATE: For those in a haze, a commenter points out that this is what set the Dukies off.) It’s enough to make one wonder if the author is familiar with the name Dick Vitale, who wears knee pads in the presence of the program. If you dare, click on the above link. May want to have a barf bag handy, for that insufferable garbage is likely to make you nauseous.

November 27th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
bunch of animal humpers at Duke
who cares if they are mad
those lacrosse players gangbanged that hooker and got away with it
the university as a whole sucks, Go UNC and Memphis
November 27th, 2007 at 1:50 pm
I am confused by their entire post.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
I too do not get the post.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
“So since in many respects, they’ve given Duke the bird, why is it that people continue to dance to their tune when they come into Cameron?”
Because Duke fans are mindless morons.
Wait. What the hell are they mad about? I don’t get that post at all, either. I don’t get a lot of what most relocated New Jersey people talk about though. When did ESPN ever do something negative towards Duke? ESPN loves them some Duke.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
I also have no clue as to the point of their post
November 27th, 2007 at 2:05 pm
I understand that the Duke students are mad at ESPN for the way they protrayed the Rape case- but to be fair, didn’t EVERYBODY write these kids off? Didn’t Duke itself kick the students out, etc?
November 27th, 2007 at 2:06 pm
Color me clueless as well.
Someone get Bobby Hurley on the phone. STAT !
November 27th, 2007 at 2:06 pm
I don’t get the post either, but boy do I dislike Duke hoops in every imaginable facet.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:07 pm
“omg it sucks so bad being rich white kids going to a top-notch school in a gorgeous part of the country. im so pissed at espn for some reason that im not sure of.”
how has espn given duke the bird? did espn not stick a finger in duke’s collective asshole when they were going down on them? did they forget to put the seat down? i just dont get it.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:08 pm
Duck Fuke is right and I have two grandfathers who graduated from Duke, one of whom played for Eddie Cameron. They are bunch of babies, Dick Vitale slobs them every chance he get’s and they are on ESPN every freaking game, stop your whining.
Go Tar Heels!!!!
November 27th, 2007 at 2:09 pm
Students also “marched” on campus like a bunch of fools, and the “88 professors” made a mockery of their entire profession, and . . . well, wrong thread.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
thanks for making sense of the post danny mac. a bunch of idiots at duke. you think these ‘crazzies’ are going to be able to stay calm when the camera pans on them? i would love to get odds on this
November 27th, 2007 at 2:20 pm
gorgeous part of the country? have you been to durham?
November 27th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
Duck Fuke indeed, as any UMD alum would say.
And yes, Durham is an absolute poohole.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:26 pm
These people go to Duke, yet they don’t know that ordinary people get a lot of chances to sock major media companies in the nose. They’re called blogs. We here at The Big Lead do it all the time. Especially at ESPN.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:29 pm
The crazies are only there to go crazy for ESPN. Those dorks don’t care about the actual game.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
honestly, i havent…i just assumed that it was seeing as it was a ritzy private college.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
Yes Durham is quite the rundown, shithole
November 27th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
well the campus itself is very nice (cameron itself looks like a cathedral) but durham is a terrible terrible place. most duke students stay on campus or goto the mall, thats about it.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:35 pm
Can you really feel slighted by being assumed guilty without a trial anymore in this counrty? I am pretty positive it happens EVERY time someone is accused of anything. Anytime you see someone on TV being accused of a crime you think, “what an asshole” when really you should think “I hope he has a fair trial and the courts find the truth as to whether he committed this awful crime.” So really, screw Duke, go cry to someone else.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
I love the way that Duke fans act like they’re so special and enlightened.
In reality, they’re a bunch of closet racists who pull for Duke because they have the most white players, and they play “fundamentally sound” basketball. And even the black players they do get have daddies who went to Yale and played professional football.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
Next you’ll tell me that the Yankees and Red Sox will unite to boycott the WWL, that Kobe Bryant will not call Jim Gray or Screamin’ A and that Patriots, Brett Favre and Cowboys have gotten tired of getting brained.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:40 pm
There is no one that pisses me off more than Dicky V. I can not stand his absolute love affair with ACC basketball. I get great joy knowing that the Orange Crush chanted ‘Fuck Dicky V’ at a home game a few years back and he hasn’t returned since. You’re not welcomed in Big 10 country, Dick.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
And just like the Cowboys, Yankees and Notre Dame football, Duke is not worth your hate. I’m amazed that people don’t understand this.
All you people who watch Duke just watch them lose are more of a problem than the Duke fans. When audiences stop watching these teams to watch them lose, they’ll stop being on TV so much.
PERIOD.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
i dont know about racists, if you look at the crazies notice the high amount of asians.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Then …
I would heed your own advice, if I were you.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
I’m mad at ESPN because they refuse to mention Brian Roberts among the best players in the country, and that Chris Wright is, in fact, the offspring of an actual airplane.
I’m pushing back in a big way. From now on, I refuse to give them anymore captain obvious quotes for them to make money off. Never again will I post “The Yankees are better with A-Rod” in their conversation section. I’m taking the picture of me off my profile, too. They don’t deserve to see my in a basketball mask with my jersey on, taking a picture of my reflection in the mirror. Take that, you elitist pricks!
November 27th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Here’s the starter post that adds some context around DBR’s beef with ESPN

You’re not welcomed in Big 10 country, Dick
I cringed everytime IU was on the tube hoping Dicky V wouldnt be on the broadcast. His blatant disregard for Mike Davis (I know, I know say what you will, the man never had a chance at IU, no matter his record)making sure to go on his diatribe about how the University should name the court after “Robert Montgomery Knight” going as far to call it a disgrace.
Back on subject, Fuck Duke, Screw Dicky V and any priveledged kid who thinks they are being wronged.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
OOps sorry about the bold type, I screwed up.
November 27th, 2007 at 2:59 pm
Dear lord, what a pile of garbage. ESPN’s whipping boy?
“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, some people don’t like the fact that we’re shoved down the entire countries throat! How dare they? We win a lot!!!!”
Fuck you, Duke fans. When you’re the biggest name on the block, you’re going to get criticism and praise in equal amounts. Don’t like it? Tough shit. Play your games on local TV with the production values of a high school AV club like most of the rest of the schools in the country.
November 27th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
I don’t get this post, and I don’t understand why Duke wants to turn their backs on the channel that made them as well-known as they are now in basketball. Yes, I bought into the Laettner-Davis-Hurley-Hill years and I loved every minute of it. I think the Crazies are annoying and overplayed now, after ten+ years of it. I think the Duke-UNC rivalry is always interesting, but it’s virtually unwatchable thanks to Dick Vitale. The crazies need to get a new schtick.
November 27th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
Its going to be tough for some of the cameron crazies to not react while Dickie V is giving them a reach around.
November 27th, 2007 at 3:14 pm
I am not “hating” Duke. I am just pointing out that my experience tells me that Duke Fan pulls for Duke because they are closet racists.
I will not watch Duke tonight. I have not watched Duke in years. And I will not watch Duke this year.
Unfortunately, because I am forced to rely on ESPN for college basketball, I am pretty much shit out of luck if I want to watch college basketball and I don’t want to watch Duke, Indiana, Bobby Knight, or the Big East.
November 27th, 2007 at 3:18 pm
This is like the Republican party firing off a press release saying Fox News screwed them over. Bizzaro World indeed.
November 27th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
“if you look at the crazies notice the high amount of asians.”
Asians don’t necessarily like black people.
November 27th, 2007 at 4:31 pm
I may be mistaken because I don’t watch a lot of college Bball, but doesn’t ESPN have something called ACC tuesday, or thursday, or whatever day? Isn’t that just a veiled attempt to put Duke on as much as possible. This post makes no sense and comes directly out of left field. Common knowledge is that ESPN LOVES (or gives reach arounds, slurps, blows, sticks finger in asshole) Duke. No one has ever claimed that WWL has anything but respect for Duke. Weird
November 27th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
In ESPN’s defense (*gasp*), I don’t think they really “love” or “hate” Duke.
I just think that ESPN’s research and ratings numbers tell them that Duke draws bigger audeiences.
The problem comes in here: Duke draws big audiences, so ESPN interprets that as “America is ONLY interested in Duke. Therefore, they only get Duke.”
That’s what I hate. Just like in MLB. The Yankees are more popular than the Rockies. Therefore, we get 71 Yankees games and ZERO Rockies games. It would not kill them and it would not be a ratings catastrophe if they decided to televise another team every now and then.
November 27th, 2007 at 5:07 pm
Speaking of ESPN their coverage of Sean Taylor yesterday was piss poor. Rest assured if that had been Roy Williams of the Cowboys there would round the clock coverage and then Stephen A. Smith would have come on with the label of ESPN basketball analyst and talk about football and that Roy Williams was killed because he was black.
November 27th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Hell, imagine what would have happened if Joe Torre was shot.
November 27th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
good lord people…seriously, jealousy isn’t a virtue. Yes, we are elitist (though I’m pretty sure we’re not racist…just because Duke throws out a whitewash every now and then, we definitely have embraced our share of black stars over the years), and we whine…but at the end of the day our team wins more than yours, and we support our team a helluvalot better than you support yours. Notice how people always say “We’re better than the Crazies” not “We’re the best fans in the nation”…the Crazies are the standard bearer, and will always be the best.
I don’t disagree that Dicky V gets on his knees for us and UNC-though trust me, we’re as sick of him as you are…between him and Billy Fucking Packer (his official name in every non Wake Forest ACC household) college basketball announcing has as much to do with college basketball as the View does. However, ESPN really ought to be on their knees for us- of the top 10 rated college basketball games ever on ESPN, a huge majority of them involve Duke and/or UNC…and that’s with regional blackouts in ACC country. ESPN made Duke basketball a national brand, and they’ve profited tremendously on Duke’s success. So it is rather hypocritical for ESPN to take potshots at Duke…the proverbial killing of the Golden Goose. You don’t think Fox Sports would jump at a chance to sign an exclusive deal with the ACC to broadcast all of their games?
Oh, and back to the racism claim. That’s by far the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard, mainly because racists don’t care about black people playing basketball and football for their teams as long as they win. My grandfather- HUUUUGGGEEE racist…but he certainly cheered for Michael Jordan, Worthy et al when they were at UNC. Most Duke fans are from NYC anyways, so there’s not nearly the overt racism that there is in the country areas of NC/SC that predominantly root for UNC (even though about 99% of UNC fans haven’t even been within 50 miles of the campus).
November 27th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
So essentially Duke got bashed in a article on ESPN and the writer feels no one should take pot shots at their precious team based on legitimate facts [Final Four appearances, ACC championships, etc.]? Boo hoo. Get over yourselves, Dukies.
Pull over here. Someone needs to get out of the Whaaaaambulance.
November 28th, 2007 at 10:12 am
Yes, we are elitist….we whine….don’t care about black people playing basketball and football for their teams as long as they win
Tallguy-you just reaffirmed every duck fuke comment here.
