The San Jose Sharks Have a Fantastic Policy For Their Drunken Players – Too Bad the Fools Don’t Follow It
Courts, Legal, NHL December 27th. 2007, 1:58pm
A guy you’ve never heard of on the San Jose Sharks was arrested for driving drunk. Yes, he’s a jackass, and it would make sense for the team to cut ties with this lout. (Don’t be alarmed we’re taking such a firm stance; and please spare us the, ‘what if all companies did this?’ rhetoric, because if all companies employed this rule, there would be fewer drunk drivers. Right?) Here’s what makes Ryane Clowe’s poor decision look even worse: the Sharks have a team policy where they “will reimburse players for the cost of a cab if they drink too much to drive.” Pretty generous considering Clowe made $525,000 last year, right?
It makes you wonder – now that former OC ingenue Mischa Barton has been popped for DUI … will the studios start to employ this take-a-cab-we’ll-pay-you-back logic?

*Is it annoying if we remind you guys to click on the ads? Probably. So we’ll try not to do it again. Something called PULSE is coming on Starz soon. It’s about a website and features Christina Milian and Kristen Bell, so it can’t be terrible. Stinks that we’ll have to switch away from Murder in the First; this movie looks good.

here’s what i can’t figure out:
a team (you pick: nfl, baseball, nhl) owner starts a limo service. in the player’s contract, it states player has 24/7 use of a limo but if player gets busted, player gets fined up the ass.
meanwhile, owner can market his limo company as “limo to (name of team)” at home games, telecasts, etc.
it’s a win-win for the owners.

ALL DWI convictions should mean mandatory jail time. Open and shut case.
Growing up, I was about 11, and the neighbor’s kid across the street, a really nice guy who was about 10 years older than me, and had this sweet black Camaro, was killed by a drunk driver. So sad. The family moved away not long after it happened. Since then, I’ve always believed that anyone selfish enough to have too many and get in a car needs to do some serious jail time. It’s irrelevant if they’ve killed anyone or not. They need to spend time behind bars.
Not much sets me off on a rant, but drunk driving is such a stupid, senseless thing. Selfish. Not only can you kill yourself, but what about the other people on the road.
I don’t know Ryan Clowe. But he’s an asshole. Useless, selfish prick. And so’s Mischa Barton. And so is anyone else who drives drunk. I hope Clowe, and Mischa get convicted, spend time in jail, and realize what they’ve done – and more importantly, what they could have done.

I guess now wouldn’t be the time to tell you guys I have a DUI conviction on my record??
Was the stupidest thing I ever did and had I done it more recently would have definitely gone to jail as DUI laws are very strict in VA.

Ditto
I am merciful enough to let people off the hook for one though, not completely off the hook, but enough for a second chance.
And to TBL, I know your not really a hockey fan, but if you’re going to take the time to post a no-name Shark player getting arrested for a DUI, it seems fair to at least post something about actual hockey once in a while right?
