Jim Leyritz, in a Bit of Trouble
Baseball, Courts, Legal December 28th. 2007, 1:57pm
It’s totally not going to be a Happy New Year for former catcher Jim Leyritz, who hit one of the most memorable World Series home runs in Yankees history. Last night in Fort Lauderdale, he got in a car accident, someone died, and then Leyritz refused a Breathalyzer. Cops are charging him with a DUI.
UPDATE: The Miami Herald has some additional facts.
Breaking News: Leyritz Arrested for DUI, Vehicular Homicide (My Pinstripes)

Wow, the only time you are supposed to blow is when there is a major accident. This sucks. Atleast a year. No misdemeanor probation.

My condolences to the woman’s family. This hurt will last a long, long time.
Deja vu, huh?

Florida must not take this too seriously: 11,000 Bond for Vehicular Homicide, that means that he has to post 1,100. Not to brag or anything, but I have never been offered a 10,000 bond. Always 20+.

i live in the great state of florida where it is 80 degress right now you suckers.
i think every state takes DUI’s and vehicular related homicides very seriously. I think judges need to take it more serioulsy and think of the victims more

@ cool_rick – Care to explain the theory about blowing during a major accident. I always heard not to blow…ever.

I’m too lazy to think of a clever way of saying that he killed Mark Wohlers’ career too.

@rittyrich- good question, at first I didnt understand when I was told it, but the explanation I got was this: in torts you have a better shot at avoiding litigation and/or a lengthy process, in addition, you just might beat it, and make your insurance company happy. Secondly, you simply just cant refuse multiple times (this from a criminal POV, which I practice in). You get one “bite at the apple”, i.e you refuse on the first, and then again on the second, you will be hit (like most states) with a mandatory 20 days + a likely violation on the first. When somebody dies the and the suspect refuses, the cops get a warrant and draw a blood sample. This can be even more damaging (like the pot you smoked a couple days ago or the crank you snorted with Irish’s mom) when introduced into evidence.

Irish- i love “honeybuns” and spicy Ramen Noodles. Plus, to quote my clients “mis books is levy.” I think that means there commisary is chang-dangleing, off the charts, or just broke. I usually say,”OK, well, tell your sister I am for you…..(cough, pay me)…The appeal before this circuit after BOOKER is gonna cost you honeybuns. Alot of em.
ps all yall should look up Booker v. Washington and the recent Crack/Case
