16-0
NFL December 29th. 2007, 11:29pm
Everybody wins! Well, except the Giants, unless this 38-35 loss is somehow a “moral” victory. It was fun for the fans, every network will have monster ratings, and with the exception of possibly two injuries (to the Giants, natch), both teams will head into the postseason healthy. If you care about this kind of thing … this was the fourth time in five weeks the Patriots didn’t cover.
So for the first time in 35 years, the NFL has a team that steamrolled through the regular season unbeaten. No need for us to go into the back-to-back passes to Moss, the horrific Giants secondary, New York’s inability to keep tabs on little Wes Welker, or the fact that a bearded ad giddy Tom Brady gets to go bang Gisele tonight. The Pats kind of remind us of the bad robot in T2 that you just can’t kill. In a word, the offense is relentless, and the Jags and Colts better pray for a blizzard, because that’s the only way to slow down this machine.

Dude, before the Giants performed the onside kick at the end of the game, they had a camera on Eli Manning. the camera was from far up in the stands. well, it seemed he was looking at the camera, and he winked at it. but it was a weird wink. it was like a 2 second wink, which is a second and a half way too long to be considered a wink. very creepy. i hope you can get video.

This game reminded me of the one the Patriots played against the Ravens. You knew once Moss drop that pass (brady under threw the ball) that they were going right back to Randy “Straight Cash Homie” Moss. I wish Moss could have done this with another team because I cant stand the Pats but just think what Moss career would be like if he had a QB in Oakland!!!!

Not just bang. Tom Terrific gets the backdoor action and no crying. That was Gisele’s promise to him at the beginning of the season.
Are the G-Men legitimate threats in the playoffs if they play like this? They do win on the road more than at home. Eli looked like a #1 drafted QB tonight.

Was anyone else very annoyed with the NFL Network Propaganda Ads tonight?

Actually thought the NFL Network wasn’t terrible. Watched on NBC, though C-squared was very, very good, Gumbel was fine, and all in all, it was a fine showing. Then again, i never, ever watch commercials. always mute or switch the channel.
I DID see the Eli wink … will see if i can pull it.

What an awesome game. I cannot remember a game that meant nothing in the standings – last game of the year – that was played with playoff intensity. Hats off to the Giants for playing the starters and playing their asses off. They just lost to a better team.
3 more wins and we’ll never have to hear from 1972 Dolphins ever again!

Mercury Morris becomes irrelevant in 5…4…3…2…

haha yeah gumbel was fine all right. “this down is huge” “this play is huge” “this is down is huge” huge must be gumbels favorite word

Hats off to both teams for a hard-fought game, but the last three minutes showed why Tom Coughlin is always on the hotseat even after however many consecutive playoff seasons. Disorganized and undisciplined football–standing around, kicked ball, failing to get out of bounds and a blown timeout. Bravo.

Eli’s wink was a “bag of skittles” moment, especially considering they had no chance. I like the T2 analogy. I may not like them, but I have to give them their credit. Brady is the best QB since Montana. Moss is the best receiver since Rice. And the Pats, it would be funny as hell if they didn’t win it all.

Great game. Even “Short Bus” Manning showed up. Just a good game overall.
I just don’t think Moss and Rice can be compared. They’re just two different beasts. Both unbelievable. Same thing with Brady. He’s great, but it’s so difficult to compare QB’s. But yeah, they’re great and as a fan, I couldn’t be happier that they ended up together.

a QB can be great without a top notch WR. (See Brady, his whole career before Moss). but a WR cant be great without a top QB (See Moss last 3 years in Oakland). I guess that’s why we never see a WR win the MVP trophy (sans Rice in the 80s)
December 30th, 2007 at 3:52 am
Woah, woah, woah….I’ve always argued it the other way around – a QB can’t be an all-time great without the receiver(s). Moss took the last few years off because he wasn’t on a winning team (selfish, obviously). I mean, he played with an almost-out-of-the-league Randall Cunningham and Daunte Culpepper in Minny where he looked great and they had a good overall/playoff team around him.
For further evidence look at how many drops Elisha has dealt with this season. And you’ll find no bigger Eli-hater than me.

Now will Bill SImmons and all Pats fans shutup about the Pats not getting the calls? A very very questionable holding call on Webster negated a punt with Giants up 7-3 and Moss pushing off twice uncalled. No to mention a joke of a personal foul on Toomer when Merriweather fell down on the sidelines.
Nice poke in the eye by Wilfork also.
So to all the Pats fans that say, “Boo Hoo, we never get the calls, the NFL hates us” Well there you go.
I actually thought Gumble was really good tonight.
December 30th, 2007 at 4:18 am
To be fair, the excessive celebration penalty on the first Moss touchdown was ridiculous.
December 30th, 2007 at 4:41 am
@schnitzengiggles – no shit? He did spike the ball. Which is a penalty in every level of football except the NFL…wait a second!
December 30th, 2007 at 10:02 am
but i thought they called it on Maroney because when he jumped in to start dancing, it became a ‘team celebration’ or whatever?

Does anyone else out there get the NFL Network on demand? I have ATT Uverse, and under their “Free On Demand” is NFLNet. Starting every Tuesday, you can watch the condensed NFL Replay of every single game from the previous weekend. It is like a 10-12 minute highlight of every single game showing every meaningful play, it’s freakin fantastic. I looked on my in laws DishTV and they didn’t have it, so I was wondering if anyone else gets it.
December 30th, 2007 at 10:59 am
This game was awful for me. I was torn between my desire for the ‘72 Dolphins to shut the hell up and between my desire to have all Patriots fans burn in hell. So it was kinda a win-win or lose-lose depending how you look at it.
December 30th, 2007 at 11:25 am
I dont care what anyone says, Bryan Gumbel and Chris Collinsworth are a couple of pillow biters. They were terrible.
December 30th, 2007 at 11:31 am
I agree, Gumbel is the worst. I don’t care what he says; it’s his voice that sucks the most. And TBL, maybe it was just my TV, but I don’t know how you can claim the NFL Network broadcast was good, when you couldn’t hear any audio over the crowd. That shouldn’t happen. Also, anyone catch the shot of the Pats coming out of the locker room at halftime when the ref patted some of the players down? What was going on there?
December 30th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
Collinsworth was great (as usual). Gumbel was awful. On the Patriots first TD, Gumbel gushed about “3 records being shattered” on one play. Except that only one record was actually broken (season points for team). Brady and Moss merely tied records on that play. It only got worse from there.
NFL-N did a good job with the game. Goodell’s “it’s for the fans” speech at the start was B.S. though.
December 30th, 2007 at 1:27 pm
That Flag on Randy was BS and was because He started dancing first before he spiked the ball. The argument with Brady has been what could her do with the weapons that PM had. Well he has that this year and you see what he can do! I still say “Straight Cash Homie” should be the MVP. Welker doesnt catch all of those balls if Randy isnt double and triple covered!!

I guess it’s true what they say: cheaters always win.
