Ballin’: Sweet, Boston and LA Still Hate Each Other!
NBA December 31st. 2007, 9:26am
Boston 110, Los Angeles Lakers 91 - Guess we won’t hear anymore talk about waiting for the Celtics to go West - four games in five days, all wins. This one wasn’t ever close, but it was chippy - four techs on the Celtics, three on the Lakers (including one Lamar Odom tackle of Ray Allen that you’ve surely seen). The short-shorts are apparently some kind of story, but sadly, they will overshadow a Boston beatdown in which Tony Allen started at point for Rajon Rondo. Surprised there hasn’t been more talk about 70 wins.
Portland 97, Philadelphia 72 - Everybody has a friend who couldn’t close a window. No game when it counts. He’d have no place on the Blazers, who buried the 76ers 35-9 in the fourth quarter to lock up their 13th victory in a row. Even Josh McRoberts scored four points! The last time he played was Dec. 2 … interestingly, that was the last time Portland lost. Long ago, we predicted a loss in Utah tonight.
Chicago 100, New York 83 - No Jamal Crawford, no shot. The Bulls are 2-0 since Jim Boylan officially became the interim coach … if you count wins over cellar-dwellers like the Bucks and Knicks.
Golden State 105, Denver 95 - Nuggets seven-game win streak is snapped. So what did Marco Belinelli do to get in Nellie’s doghouse? The rookie hasn’t played in over a week, and Nellie’s hinting at the D-League. This kid was a European scoring machine. Surprised a team that can’t score or shoot (Clippers, 76ers) hasn’t tried to buy low yet.
San Antonio 111, Memphis 87 - In some of these blowouts, we like to look at a box score and click on names that aren’t familiar. Did anyone know Keith Langford (Kansas!) was in the league? Or Darius “Free Throws” Washington? Marcus “Ballhog” Williams? We’re nerdy college hoops fans and it’s strange to see college stars (well, Langford wasn’t really a star) languish.

NBA look out, Josh McRoberts scored 4 points
what a bum, another example of why you should stay in college and practice your game, do beer bongs, and bang college sluts
just another dukie who wont amount to anything in the pros, the list keeps getting bigger and bigger

Hadn’t seen that Odom clip, so thanks for the link. I love how he doesn’t even give a thought to the ball. His head is straight down and he’s going for nothing but legs. Great tackling technique.

He saw the hit in the Colts game last night and wanted to recreate it.
Also, the thing about college is that systems can really cover up players flaws because of talent disparities between teams. When players get to the NBA, everyone’s talented and thus system guys get exposed and guys who just got by on sheer ovewhelming talent get exposed too.

Believe it or not, unlike Pat and Red Sox fans, Celtic fans aren’t nearly as dickish. Unlike the other teams in Boston the Celtic fans don’t seem as anxious to tell the rest of the world how great they are. The true fans, the ones who didn’t run away when the team became awful just want to see good basketball and we are enjoying the season.
Lost all respect I had for Odom. That was just pitiful on his part. And why go after Ray Allen, the most mild mannered man in the NBA? Cheap. But If I was forced to wear fruit of the looms in public I might be looking to take out my frustration on someone as well.
70 win talk is silly IMO though the Celtics do have the same record as the 72 win Bulls at this point. Celtics and Pistons next Saturday night ….

I love the look on Allen’s face after the Odom tackle. He is like “What in the hell? Are you serious?”

brandon roy is a pimp
if he was in a big media city, his picture would be all over the place
oden was a waste for them, they knew he had a bum knee
i think oden will be a bust, just like Ralph Sampson
they should of picked durant, durant is stuck on a shitty team
greg oden is a waste of paul allens money that he should of used to keep Zach Randolph there
greg oden sucks and he will never amount to $%#@
December 31st, 2007 at 12:06 pm
but what do you think about greg oden?
December 31st, 2007 at 12:10 pm

You think Portland is better off with ZBo? You obviously don’t watch much Blazer basketball. Besides Zach’s contract had nothing to do with him being traded. And Oden will be ROY next season.
TBL - If Portland loses, they will still have had a 13 game win streak. You seem to think a loss to Utah somehow invalidates everything the Blazers have accomplished. Within the current streak, they had 7 wins in a row against teams with winning records (including Utah and Denver twice). They’ve beaten the Pistons and Mavs outside of the streak as well. So what if they lose tonight? What does that prove to you? That teams generally don’t win 14 in a row? The key will be how they respond after their next loss.

So does Odom get some games for that? I mean, clearly that shit was a full on football tackle. I mean shit, if you get suspended for walking onto the court during a fight (last year’s Suns), you oughta get 3 games for trying to be like Michael Strahan on a basketball court.

For anyone who didn’t see the game, Lamar Odom didn’t even get a T called on him for all that. Instead Bennett Salvatore gave the T to Ray Allen.
Figure that one out. They called a flagrant 1 on Odom and a T on Jesus.

@Irishmafia: The following is said with full knowledge of the Sam Bowie saga and that knee injuries don’t just go away: If Oden does not have recurring problems with that knee, he will be a better pro than Durant. I think he’ll probably be more durable (again, the knee makes this a huge if).
I like Oden’s defense and I like his ability to control the lane. I think Durant’s lack of strength will keep him an outside player and he will probably have a career arc similar to Tracy McGrady (great player, lots of injuries from long minutes and his slender frame knocked around).
