USF Hits the Big-Time: Cheating Scandal!
College Football January 4th. 2008, 9:48am
Our lasting memory of South Florida linebacker Ben Moffitt was earlier this season, when the Bulls were taking down then-No. 5 West Virginia, and Moffitt was enjoying a sensational game (two interceptions, one for a TD). ESPN kept flashing to his wife in the stands, and their love story was recounted ad nauseum – met as freshman in high school, were married by their senior year, and now they have two kids. Rob Reiner bought the movie rights. No, he didn’t, but he could have.
Ben Moffitt filed for divorce this week, and his wife’s first move was to email the newspapers with proof that she wrote his college papers. It gets better – her sister wrote papers for him, too. When you read it all … geez, you wonder what kind of NCAA penalties could be coming USF’s way. “Ben Moffitt has never written a paper,” Shauna said. “Never. Ever. I love him, but he doesn’t know how to spell. He cheats.” If FSU is Free Shoes University, what is USF? We got nothing.

The first thought that comes to mind is, “What a bitch.” Probably not the most appropriate one.
January 4th, 2008 at 9:57 am
I know cheating on papers is wrong, but that was my first thought as well.

Isn’t this the same school that was joked about at the beginning of the season because their standards were a little “relaxed” compared to other Florida schools? That being said, what a Sunt!

She does come off as a little cunty, no?
Oh well Ben, ditch her now before the draft.
January 4th, 2008 at 10:05 am
If she loves him so much, then what the hell is this doing being aired in the newspaper? I can understand wanting to screw him on the divorce precedings or something, but don’t claim love as you completely cut someone off at the ankles.

Ditch the bitch before you sign a pro contract.
January 4th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I’m sure he can do better. He lives in Tampa after all. This just goes to show you no matter what the school, the athletes are taken care of, and it doesn’t bother me at all. I thought it was just one of those universally accepted truths.

What a bitch. Going below the belt ASAP. Fuckin’ tramp.
Yes. But Nick Saban was whining about it, so let’s pretend USF has high academic standards. I mean, who wants to be on Saban’s side?

If there is indeed proof that his wife and sister in law wrote his papers then he should have known this would come back to bite him, people can be at their worst when divorce is involved.

University of Studies (for) Free?
Having the damn ‘University’ in the front makes it tough.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!
College students, athletes no less, cheat!?!?!? Who cares, it is college. Everyone cheats in college. There are websites devoted to it. Where does it say that you have to write your own papers anyway? He was just using his resources.

What color is the sky in your world die eagles die?
January 4th, 2008 at 10:25 am
I knew a kid in college who paid people not only to write his papers for him, but to actually take the class in his name. He would give a kid like $500 and his social security number and say “I need a C or better” The problem is in the classrooms themselves… there is no security. You could walk into a Harvard class right now and sit down and get the education without actually paying for the class. There would be no record of you and you would get no “credit” but you would still actually be in attendance. So the onus is on the admin/ proffs. to clean this bit up.

Where does it say that you have to write your own papers anyway?
I’m pretty sure most(all) universities view that as cheating, and generally frown upon it.
January 4th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Mags, for once I agree. I could roll in and get a “Harvard” education any day I wanted by just sitting there.
@ Groin…In my world, where I went to college, and was an athlete, most people cheat. And the sky doesn’t have a color, it is just a reflection of the water, hence the reason it turns black at night.

I kinda feel bad for the guy, b/c it sucks being called out like that. But I did not like the whole USF story this year, so I hope they learn a lesson and get some academic standards.

Peter Warrick thinks things could be worse, but Lavernaues Coles begs to differ.

SvP…thats some funny shit.

Actually: “The blue color of the sky is caused by the scattering of sunlight off the molecules of the atmosphere. This scattering, called Rayleigh scattering, is more effective at short wavelengths (the blue end of the visible spectrum). Therefore the light scattered down to the earth at a large angle with respect to the direction of the sun’s light is predominantly in the blue end of the spectrum.”
Sorry, I’m just in “Prick Mode” today.

I tend to go a bit more base with my initialism.
Uh-oh. Shit. Fucked.
My apologies, if necessary, for the language.
January 4th, 2008 at 10:45 am
I live in Michigan and the sky is gray…always fucking gray
January 4th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Uh, how the hell is anyone defending this prick? The guy marries his high school sweetheart, has two kids with her, and decides, right before he’s actually gonna start getting paid, that hell, yea, he could probably do better than her. Of course, she’s left with two kids, and their kids are left without a dad. If anyone has been following this story, just look at the pictures in this NYT article. She’s basically feeling helpless at this point and shooting out whatever ammo she has against him. The guy is a massive piece of crap for doing this to her and his kids…
January 4th, 2008 at 10:59 am
@e man
No doubt about that. Remember two years ago when we set the record for days without sunshine? I think it was something like two days out of three months or something… I killed myself twice that winter.
January 4th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Yeah, USF is the only school where this would happen. And if I were a media outlet, I don’t know if a bitter soon to be ex-wife is what I would consider to be a reliable source.
January 4th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Any pics of the wife?
January 4th, 2008 at 11:08 am
I think I remember that…January of 06…26 consecutive days with no blue sky and not a single sighting of the sun.
January 4th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Gotta agree with DC7 on this, 100%.
Wondering why there are no photos of her in that nYt article.
January 4th, 2008 at 11:18 am
If you have seen her you would understand why she shys away from the camera
January 4th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
I want to know why one article says they met their Freshman year but another article says she is 3 years older than him? Was she held back 3 times? And he bought a hunting rifle when he was 9!!?? It all sounds pretty hickish to me.
January 4th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
I feel bad for the two kids stuck in the middle of this mess.
January 4th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Useless Stupid Frauds
I don’t hate on the wife for pulling out the only trump card she had on him. At least Moffitt could have waited till after he made the league to divorce her ass. Bad move, bro.
Jim Leavitt prospects in the future? Gone.
