McNabb Fires the First Offseason Salvo
Blogging, NFL January 9th. 2008, 4:37pm
Read between the lines here, folks: “I hope we are able to secure some playmakers in all three phases of the game. Maybe some of those playmakers are already on the roster but have struggled with injuries, myself included, that have held us back a little. You can’t argue with how the Patriots went outside their locker room and stocked up on playmakers last year. It certainly helped to have Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker and Adalius Thomas making plays for them all year.”
D-Mac – that guy’s so smart. Brilliant move. Teams and GMs are often as heartless as a crack den when it comes to how they treat players, so might as well lob the first grenade, right? Philly must make a decision on their franchise QB this off-season, and Feb. 4th isn’t here yet, and McNabb has backed the Iggles into a corner with a post on a blog! (This is the wave of the future for athletes – controlling the message – if you refuse to believe it, your loss.) If Philly decides to part ways with McNabb, there will be a large portion of the fanbase that asks, ‘why didn’t the team do more to help McNabb?’ If Philly keeps McNabb and doesn’t spend money on some quality free agents, and doesn’t reach the playoffs, then he’s got an out – why didn’t we improve the team? Win-win, baby.
The only comeback Eagles brass may have: The Packers didn’t go out and load up on players to help Brett Favre, and they finished 13-3 after a going 4-12 in 2005 and 8-8 in 2006.

The biggest problem next year for D-Mac will be him fighting with his punter for the right to wear 5 on their purple Jersey.
January 9th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
If I was McNabb, I wouldn’t want to stay in Philly. They aren’t happy with anyone. He oughta go to Chicago, where they’d love to have a quarterback with half the skills D-Mac has.
January 9th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Yea the Eagles should totally go after some talent like a big name wide receiver. How did that work out again?
January 9th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
no way he is going to Minnesota. Just because Childress is there doesnt mean he will go. Mcnabb and Westbrook still is one of the best QB-RB tandems the league has to offer. Andy Reid is a offensive guru who had too many distractions this year to be able to fully concentrate. All they really need is WR’s and some LB’s. They have two of the best CB’s and a HOF safety. They need two more offensive weapons and they will be back in the hunt next year.
January 9th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
he’s on the wrong team. the eagles management simply doesn’t care about anyone/anything other than the bottom dollar. fuck that entire organization.
January 9th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
The Vikings have already invested in Tarvaris. If anything, we’d get Pennington who wouldn’t have an issue being backup and coming off the bench when, and it will happen, Childress finally realizes Tarvaris sucks.
No way McNabb comes here to MN.

I am a huge McNabb fan, so I am biased, but not only is this a great move, but he’s right. The Eagles one year they had a good WR they went to the Super Bowl.
Since Javon Walker wants out of Denver, why wouldn’t the Eagles brass try and trade for him, besides they’re cheap?
January 9th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
What are all 3 phases? Offense, Defense, and Special Teams? Running, passing, and defense? Either way, he is an idiot. They have All-Pro Westbrook locked up. I don’t think teams usually go out and sign stud KRs. Defensively, they have gone out and gotten Kearse and Spikes. They have good corners and a SS. So that isn’t it. They had Stallworth last year, and that wasn’t enough to win. As mentioned above, they had TO, and McNabb wasn’t happy with that either. Why does he need to come out and say anything? Just shut up, and work on improving your own play. That will help the Eagles get better. Let Reid and the owners worry about player operations.

Reading these posts just makes me feel bad for Vikings fans
January 9th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
we feel bad enough for ourselves. We don’t need sympathy because that would put us in the Boston Category.
January 9th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
what is the point? If they bring in any new “playmakers” McNabb will just run them off if they get more popular than him.
January 9th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Who says they meant the Vikings? Baltimore would love to sign another veteran QB who can’t move like they used to.
January 9th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Agree with Grunge, McNabb is a huge drama queen. I used to like him but all he does is bitch and blow NFC title games.
January 9th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
This is a non-story, he said they need playmakers, a 5 year old knows they need playmakers.
January 9th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
It sounds like McNabb wants to be a back up QB for the Pats…or he can shut his pie hole and not be a whiney little bitch. Nothing shows team leader and all around good guy by taking pot shots at your team on a blog.
January 9th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
mcnabb talks way too much
January 9th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
File me under those who agree with McNabb on ‘why didn’t the team do more to help McNabb?’
File me under those who are tired of his shenanegans and drama.
Bye Bye Donnie Mac, we hardly knew ya.
January 9th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Let’s hope he doesn’t come to the Vikings. Anyone remember the Warren Moon experiment?

Off Topic, but reason # 12,876,987 why Sportscenter is unwatchable.
Sitting here with PTI on the tv while finishing up at the office and the Sportscenter tease comes on with Chris Mcendry (sp) saying….. “Coming up on Sportscenter you won’t want to miss Tony Romo speak out about his trip south of the border with Jessica Simpson”
That is the freaking tease to get me to watch Sportscenter tonight?!?!? F’ing terrible espn.

Is alot a new word I am not aware of?
January 9th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Don’t worry Owl, there is a photo of Jenn Sterger about two posts down. You could probably just sit and stare at that until the day ends.
January 9th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
god forbid McNabb asks to improve his team, Westbrook is the ONLY weapon on that offense and if the Eagles did go out and get some weapons(Chad Johnson, Dallas Clark, Jonathan Vilma anyone?) that would put them back int he top 3 or 4 teams in the NFC. McNabb showed that he had some life in him yet at the end of the season. Had another QB said this…Vince Young, Tom Brady(before this year obviously) people would be championing their words as proof they really want to win a Super Bowl. I will tell you that the majority of fans in Philly LOVE THIS because they(we) have been saying this same thing all year.
January 9th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
@ Sponge…Westbrook is the only weapon is exactly the point. McNabb is no longer an offensive weapon, seeing as how he can’t complete a season. I agree that Philly is behind him. Everyone has been saying they are getting on him, but I don’t think that is the case. They are backing him just as they always have, but this time they really should be fed up.
McNabb is the same person that drove away TO, and now he is complaining about a big time WR threat. He is a hypocrate. He had what he needed and he pushed him away. I don’t care if you like the guy, you get paid a lot of money to play a game. I don’t like a lot of people I work with, yet I still have to work with them.
And they have gotten players. They inked Westbrook to a long term deal. They have gotten Spikes and Kearse in the past. They were so good at LB, that they figured it was best to drop Trotter. All McNabb does is open his mouth. He should worry about his own play. Brady never had the receivers, but he didn’t come out and bash the organization. Brady took a pay cut so the organization could bring in better players, and that sure is paying off now. I don’t see McNabb doing anything like that.

In 1996 the Syracuse basketball team, a program McNabb played for, lost the the title game to the Kentucky Wildcats.
I went to the 1997 Carrier Classic where Syracuse invites in 3 teams so they can kick the crap out of them. Anyways McNabb shows up and sits a pretty close to where I was. What is he wearing on his head? A Kentucky Wildcat hat.
I have no respect for him and it has little to do with the incident above. Just sick of his mouth, sick of he racism accusations, sick of all of it. It is going to be even more sickening listening how he is the savior of whatever team he goes to. Ainge’t gonna happen. We were talking about the Niners earlier. If he went there I would cry. The last thing I would be is excited.

Guess I had the Celtics game I’m watching on my mind when I wrote that post. Ainge’t? WTF? Ain’t, Ainge’t. Its all the same.
The bingers probably didn’t help either.
Go Celtics.

Did not know that, thanks Dornoch and Urban Dictionary.

I have to agree with what many are saying on here. I’m getting a little tired of McNabb constantly putting the blame on others. Most of the time, he seems like a likable guy. But for me, there are getting to be too many off the field situations where his name pops up.
January 9th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Oh, and OwlX, if TBL starts posting for west coasters, you’ll have me to partially thank–I have clicked on a ton of ads, and I don’t even like Asian chicks…even if they “seek men for love and marriage.”
January 9th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
McNabb might have as big of a vagina as his mother does but he makes the right point. Fortunately for him, he won’t be around to see how much change they have made to the team this offseason because I think this might be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
January 9th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Does anybody care about Boom Dizzle’s pre game meal? Cause that also made the Yard today.
January 9th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Kirk Reynolds is ecstatic about this.

sine when did mcnabb drive TO away? i thought the dispute was between TO and ownership…oh yeah…the media…
January 10th, 2008 at 5:19 am
TO made a comment about McNabb (actually it was a response to a question about McNabb that made him look bad)…and McNabb got butt-hurt. Rather than be a leader and smooth the situation out with TO behind closed doors, the whole thing blew the fuck up. It was telling that pretty much any player that spoke out about it, wanted to keep TO. Remember Trotter, the real leader of the team, begging for a resolution so TO could stay on the field. The team knew what kind of player TO was and how vital he was to their cause, and McNabb was too big a vagina to make it work. Since management was on his side, he won.
I also think the fact that McNabb had a huge contract (100 mil?) irked the shit out of TO since the iggles wouldn’t give him a raise after what he did for them in the super bowl. And he had every right to be bitter. Fuck McNabb. He couldn’t run a no huddle offense down 2 scores with 6 minutes left in the freaking SUPER BOWL because he was so out of shape from partying all week (per simmons. reading him has its benefits, every once in a while you glean a golden nugget of info).
It’s beautiful that Owens will have the last laugh over the split up. He got completely vilified, while McNabb was made to look like a victim by the douchebags in the media. the real victims were the eagles players and their fans and the real culprit was McNabb.
January 10th, 2008 at 8:39 am
Let me know when McNabb shoulders the blame for anything, like never finishing a season or missing a bunch of games with an infected hangnail or whatever malady he has. I don’t think it’s some strange coincidence that the Eagles always rally around the backup QB either.
Honestly, what a little bitch. Going onto his blog to complain about the lack of talent on his team. McNabb is like the whiny girlfriend that constantly bitches and complains and is practically begging you to dump her.
January 10th, 2008 at 9:53 am
To add to Sportsjunky (nice recap)…The question posed to TO was (and I am paraphrasing) would the team be better with Brett Favre or McNabb right now? McNabb was not 100% at the time, and well he never is, and Favre, was being Favre, awesome. McNabb is a little bitch.
