Dropping the Lynch Bomb Will Get You Two Weeks
Golf, Race January 10th. 2008, 10:53am
Couple tips for Golf Channel announcer Kelly Tilghman on how to spend her two weeks off (is this a paid vacation?):
* travel, obviously (Kenya?)
* Netflix Roots
* make insensitive comments about Al Sharpton (everyone will laugh, it’ll be cool)
* Set up press-friendly photo-op with black youths
Golf Channel’s Tilghman suspended for two weeks (USA Today)

So, we’re suspending people for saying dumb things now. Great. Look out, Emmitt! Don’t even give up. Don’t EVEN give up!
January 10th, 2008 at 10:58 am
So what does LeBetard get?
January 10th, 2008 at 10:58 am
A couple more:
Endorse Obama
Get photographed hanging out with Tiger and Family (maybe kiss baby?)
January 10th, 2008 at 11:00 am
yea, but emmitt didn’t say, “don’t even give up…apartheid,” or something equally ridiculous.
perhaps she should stop following the PGA if she wants to learn somethinga bout diversity.
i believe it’s an old, old wooden ship.

Spencer, outstanding reference.
I would be surprised if the affiliates were concerned about the lack of an old wooden ship, but nice try.

I totally lifted this from some guy named Dread on another blog about this but had to share it:
“She could have gone with “napalm him,” but that would have offended the other side of his ancestry.”
F$#king classic!

wow
January 10th, 2008 at 11:19 am
she meant nothing by it, and tiger even says so much. but in this ridiculous pc world of ours everything is taken to the next level. and oooh fat al is involved, hey al go get jesse and apologize to the duke lax team first, then worry about this.
January 10th, 2008 at 11:21 am
I also usually think our society is way too pc, but that was a really, really stupid thing to say and I think a 2 week suspension was the right call.
January 10th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Shoulda been you Michelle Wie.
January 10th, 2008 at 11:24 am
i agree that it was stupid, but it wasn’t malicious. want to suspend for 2 weeks? that’s fine. but for fat al and the gang to get involved is what really pisses me off. living in nyc i’ve been listening to this gasbag for over the last 20 years and he’s nothing but an agitator.
January 10th, 2008 at 11:25 am
to give you an idea of how much i follow golf (full disclosure: i do not), i never heard of this broad or seen her before this week.
January 10th, 2008 at 11:28 am
I don’t think anyone outside of the 25 people who watch the Golf Channel had heard of her.
Trust me I hate big Al and Jesse as much as the next guy.
January 10th, 2008 at 11:30 am
i watch golf channel a shitload and even I hadn’t heard of her. i knew her face, but couldn’t tell you her name.
January 10th, 2008 at 11:34 am
i think she should interview fuzzy to get herself some more publicity
January 10th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Thanks CRM +1

To you guys who don’t watch this channel….. She is pretty much the “lead” person for the channel. She hosts more shows & snags more airtime than anyone there. If there were to be an internal ranking of TGC personalities, she would be #1 per the golf channel.
This is pretty huge for them and for the fact that they are owned by Comcast, she probably just lost her job (give Al a few days). It really is too bad because she comes across as a real sweet girl who just loves golf and I enjoy her a lot, but the more I think about it, it really is in-excusable.
That word doesn’t mean anything except hanging black people.
You can’t spin it. I personally believe it is just a terrible mistake with no ill will, but if I were black I don’t think I could ever not think about this when watching her on a program and that is why she is probably gonzo.

Fortunately some people understand the situation a bit better.

She’s also against woman’s suffrage.
January 10th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Spencer, I knew the top of her head once at a frat party.
January 10th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
How many of you say fire her?
If she had said it about a white person, maybe less trouble. But to use the word lynching with a partially black person? In 2007, that unfortunately is indefensible. Two week suspension, and maybe she gets to keep her job.
January 10th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
If fat Al and Jesse are involved its only because the media has them on speed dial. Maybe you should demand that they contact Armstrong Williams, Clarence Thomas, etc. for their views. Beside, our world has gone beyond “PC”. Its now all about bringing someone down so that they can feel better about themselves.
That being said, her apology should have been enough. Her intent was not malicious. I’m glad that she was not fired, but she should not have been suspended either.
January 10th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
if marshawn lynch ever has a big game in a win over cleveland, i hope to see the headline, “Bills Lynch Browns.”
January 10th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
It pains me just how PC we’ve all become. Her comments were, undeniably, not terribly wise. I don’t think anyone is disputing that. But, crimony, there was no ill intent here. She apologized. Tiger accepted.
This should no longer be a story. Move along.
January 10th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
lozo, using hypothetical trades, the Texans, Patriots, Saints, and Redskins lynching the Browns would also be fun (at least for me).
January 10th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Didnt Arthur Blank say something about fried chicken and Michael Vick on MNF last month? What happened to him> other than John Saunders calling him out on the “Sports Reporters” Did Big Al miss that one?
January 10th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
At least she didn’t play the “I have lots of black friends” card in her apology.
January 10th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Because that Arthur Blank thing fell under the American being way too PC if they got mad about it.
January 10th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
I liked ESPN’s headline,
Yankees Wave Magic Wang
January 10th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
What was lost in the Arthur Blank thing was the rest of his answer….he was saying how he would be open to Michael Vick playing for the Falcons again IF he didn’t eat the fried chicken etc……What other owner would leave open the possibility that Vick could come back and play for him considering the damage he has caused? Salary cap hell. Coach resigns. Team sucks. Ticket sales suffer.
All this because of Vick and the guy said he would be open to having him back….
January 10th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don’t speak for the enlightened and educated black community. They would like to think they do, but the only ones who give a damn what they say or think are the ignorant.
