Yup, Washington State’s For Real
College Basketball January 11th. 2008, 10:58am
Got our first extended glimpse at the Cougars last night and they were pretty-much as advertised – mistake-free, nasty on defense, and devoid of NBA talent (does Weaver get an NBA look? Perhaps as a Bruce Bowen-type). It didn’t help that USC was missing forward Davon Jefferson, but the Trojans looked completely lost defensively against the Cougars efficient offense. USC was hitting its shots … when it wasn’t turning the ball over or watching the Cougars sink three’s (10) or convert layups (too many to count).
This sets up unbeaten Washington State at one-loss UCLA Saturday (if Fox Sports doesn’t carry this, we’re calling to complain). There is some concern that fragile Bruins point guard Darren Collison may not play due to a hip injury he suffered last night in a win over Washington. We’re thinking UCLA 51, Wazzu 48.
George Washington 49, St. Louis 20 – A reader: Rick Majerus left ESPN for this?
Louisville 63, West Virginia 54 – The Cards are finally getting everyone back healthy, and once they settle on a rotation, this team should be dangerous come February. They’re just big as hell, very athletic, and aggressive.
Butler 74, Wisconsin-Green Bay 65 – Hey, we’ve got a guy who always leaves comments about us excluding Butler, and this one’s for you, mate.

did larry hughes suit up for SLU last night?

Nah, they scored 20. With Larry, they wouldn’t have cracked double digits.

Cool Rick is going to be pleased.

Butler 74, Wisconsin-Green Bay 65
That’s almost too much information to digest all at once!

I thought Rick Majerus lost a bunch of weight to play the cop in “The Shield”

Seriously, though, I thought he was dead.

“Mistake free, nasty on defense, deviod of NBA talent.” Are you talking about Butler? Washington State is gonna be a spoiler down the stretch. My AJ “the alien” Graves jersey (#4) arrived last week. And since it has been unseasonably warm in the midwest, you damn right I have been rocking it everyday. I am even thinking of getting a tat.
BTW- TBL, that douchebag link was the best thing I have ever seen. “Fish Slap.”

Aside from G-Town, these guys are a fun team to watch. You won’t hear much about them all season because ESPN doesn’t leave North Caroline during CBB season, so it will be a major “shock” when they go far in the tourney.

I can’t get into college ball since Pitt went from being a potential beast to a team that injuries killed.

Badgers go to 3-0 in the Big Ten with another ho-hum win over Illinois…if they can steal on at Purdue they could be 7-0 when Indiana comes to Madison January 31st (looks like Lost will have to be watched at a later date)

Damn. Tomorrow is wall to wall basketball. I’m pretty much attaching my ass to the sofa. Get to cap it all off by watching KU destroy Maric and The Midgets. It’s going to get ugly in Lincoln. I have no clue why they’ve never been capable of getting a decent team. They’ve got 11 wins now and will probably end up with 17.

ESPN doesn’t even show Pac 10 games do they?
I thought there were 5 million different options on where to get your sports news from? People shouldn’t have any problem hearing about Washington State even if EVILLLLLLL ESPN is stopping them.

It seems to me that Foxsports has a stranglehold on the non-AZ/UCLA Pac 10.
Wazzou is 4th in the nation. Who is having problems hearing about them? If you want to be force fed your sportsnews, then by all means, leave the channel on ESPN and your home page ESPN.com. Good lord, tons has been written and said about Wazzou already this season.

Wazzou v UCLA, FSN, 1130 PT.
Good way to start a day of slothiness.

KC- totally agree. If I want to watch CBB, i pretty much have to watch CBS (SEC) games. ESPN does show some good games, I got to watch Butler at 12:30 am one morning, but for the most part I have not heard of a pac-10 team outside of USC, UCLA or the coachless wildcats.

Does anyone else have the link “Kansas City Star Deaths–Find Kansas City Star deaths in the world’s largest newspaper archive” to the right of their screen? Or should I be concerned that Joe Posnanski and Jason Whitlock are going to come through my computer screen and kill me? WTF…
January 11th, 2008 at 11:42 am
Shhh – Whitlock’s napping.

I think SLU’s ugliness broke Chris Wright’s ankle.
Out 6-8 weeks.
My Flyers have their work cut out for them.

USC is just a terrible defensive team to begin with. Mayo doesn’t understand to go around the screen when being picked. Every single time they isolated him on defense, he’d run straight into his own guy and his assignment would drain the jumper. Washington State is like 85% of college teams in the country . . . . live or die by the jumpshot. Beside that big Aussie bastard, they have zero inside presence. If they get matched up against a quality perimeter defending team, they will be beaten.

hey, my colonials actually made a ballin’!
