BREAKING: Stephen A. Smith Has a Blog
Blogging, ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings January 23rd. 2008, 3:25pm
Fantastic work by Simon on Sports for unearthing this gem. Sadly, we don’t know how long it will last – remember this little experiment Mitch Albom tried in 2006? He quit posting about a month in. Smith’s first and only entry can best be described as rambling – at best – but we will definitely be adding this bad boy to the RSS feed. After the jump, SAS gets all … racial! [Ed. We probably should have said this initially - there's NO CONFIRMATION that this is in fact Stephen A. Smith's "online" blog. It certainly appears so (the front page is hella professional), but we can only say we are 99 percent sure this is his blog. UPDATE II: Simon on Sports said SAS mentioned the website on his radio show today, and even bemoaned the fact that someone already had Stephen A. Smith.com. So it's safe to assume this is the website he mentioned.]
“If something needs to be said I plan on saying it. Whenever and wherever necessary. But contrary to cynical belief, I’m fully aware there is a time and place for everything. That everything is NOT about race. And, more importantly, when there is something to be said about race, every incendiary piece of blame does not flippantly deserve to get pointed in the direction of WHITE AMERICA. Trifling behavior doesn’t fall squarely on the broad shoulders of those with a lighter pigmentation who happen to run this country.”
Oh, dear.
I thought Stephen A. Smith hated blogs? (Simon on Sports)

Don’t know if you noticed the header, but apparently, it’s an “Online Blog.” Got that kids? This isn’t your grandpappy’s off line blog. This is the real deal.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:29 pm
he even yells in his blog. I don’t know if this is funny… or just sad.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:30 pm
how many comments on his blog before cheese doodles are referenced?
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:36 pm
@TBL
1, from me, just now.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:37 pm
hey, i just left a comment. i can’t believe it’s not moderated. i bet it’s not really his blog.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Uggh, my head hurt after about 50 words of that crap. He definitely needs an editor to edit his thoughts, and another three editors to edit his writing.
Here’s to hoping he keeps up his blog for one reason: to expose his terrible writing and communication skills.
He otherwise has editors to clean up his words (at the Inquirer, occasionally editors failed to catch his bad writing; and I know when I see a poorly written article on deadline posted, we’re seeing the real writing the “journalist” has submitted).
Why does race have to be so prevalent in what he does? Why?
Why does he have to yell on TV all the time? (I have to work for a a living, and thankfully have never heard his radio drivel).
I guess my questions are rhetorical, and I am better off railing against gravity causing sagging bosoms. Ain’t nothing that can be done about it…sigh.

Has Deadspin gotten on to this yet? Those merry pranksters with have a ball.

Well, i did just put up a little disclaimer that there’s no way to tell it is in fact his blog … but if you look at the front page, that doesn’t look like something that was just whipped together on the fly.
In fact, that banner is pretty kick ass.

CRM, the offline ones are generally referred to as dream journals.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:44 pm
My mind is now blown.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:44 pm
BMB – Yeah, tell me about Apple. Been watching that in pain all day. I should have sold at 200 four weeks ago! But i think it’s a hold stock … it should be back up to 200 by late April.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:44 pm
I BLAME EVERYTHING ON SLAVA MED-VE-DEN-KO.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:45 pm
This is breaking news? His first entry is from 9 days ago.
Lozo, your comment over there made me laugh.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:46 pm
@Dan – I had no idea how long I’ve been blogging.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:46 pm
@TBL
You know what I hate about Apple? That fucking $350 flat fee for fixes… Sure it is great if you need something major, but my CD drive stops working and I have to pay $350. I lose an F key and I have to pay $350. Fuck that.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Quite frankly, I can’t believe it took 6 comments before someone used quite frankly.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Spencer, don’t forget about RA-SHA NES-TER-O-VIC
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Quite frankly, I have a new home page.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:49 pm
I saw a video of a fan heckling SAS at the NBA draft and also heckling the draftees with a sock on his hand, stating his sock was SAS. it was from this year. did you guys run that video ?
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Are you talking about the “Apple Care” – that’s just in case your entire computer goes to shit within 3 years., and it’s optional. For little fixes I’m sure there are plenty of other places to go.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:52 pm
@ Mike NYC
Maybe in NYC there is… try living in the wonder called “fly-over country” I don’t have Apple Care. What I do have is a macbook-pro that will not take a cd. For the fix I have to pay $350, which is bullshit IMO.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Stephen A updates his blog regularly which is important for any new blog looking to break out.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Mags, if you lost the F key wouldn’t it be uck that?
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:55 pm
did you really pay $350 for one key? damn. that’s definitely worth going to the story and trying to pluck an F key off a keyboard.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Maggs do a little browsing around on this site, it should certainly be less than $350.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Isiah Thomas will be his first commenter post. Hopefully, it goes over better than mine did.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:00 pm
@ Mike NYC
Veeeery nice. Thanks. No I never paid teh $350 and I never lost a key, but I talked to the guys at the APPLE STORE and they said once your APPLE CARE runs out, every fix is a $350 flat rate (no matter what the fix is) so I was a little pissed. That site says $49 for CD/DVR repair, which is sexellent.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:00 pm
CAN I JUST SAY THAT MY HAVING A BLOG DOESN’T QUALIFY AS BREAKING NEWS! OH WAIT, I AM STEPHEN A SMITH SO I GUESS IT DOES!!
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:03 pm
If you replace every spot where SAS used the words “said” or “saying” with “screamed” or “screaming”, the whole thing reads much more realistically.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Not enough ALL CAPS for my taste.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:11 pm
The deal looks fishy too me. He wrote a Happy New Year Column on Jan.2 yet it wasn’t posted until Jan.14. And somehow his site wasn’t discovered until today? Not to mention he just did that interview saying bloggers should be silenced since then? And he hasn’t updated it along with obviouly no moderation.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:11 pm
i’m the first person to ever leave a comment on stephen a. smith’s blog.
talk about a life achievement i never knew i wanted till i actually achieved it. i might cry a little.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:12 pm
@ lozo
Second.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:13 pm
I tried posting but got something back that said
“Comment under pigmentation color of skin review”
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:22 pm
I’m jealous, posting comments on his site is “Blocked by websense”.
Damn you websense !
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:28 pm
TBL just flooded SAS’ blog?
And you dudes vowed to never become like the establishment! You bastards!
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:29 pm
You guys are absolutely slaying me with the comments posted on SAS’s blog. He’s getting a quick lesson in comment moderation.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Getting in touch with our inner Schrutebag.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Not everything is WHITE PEOPLE’S fault. But oh yeah, they control the world.
….Wha?…………
January 23rd, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Thanks you guys…I was having such a bad day..then I went to his blog and read all your comments…I laughed so hard I cried. THANK YOU STEPHEN A!!!!

SAS “managed to sneak in a little Phil Collins, Hall & Oates and Rod Stewart into my head phones or stereo whenever my boys weren’t paying attention”
I see “Sussudio” making its way to a NBA Draft broadcast near you. I also want to see a sign declaring SAS a “Maneater”
January 23rd, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Mr. Smith doesn’t appreciate your candor on his professional blog that apparently isn’t cared for enough to be updated every single day. Slackers.
January 24th, 2008 at 12:37 am
Comments on the online blog of (the) Screamin’ A got hostile very quick. Mark Fuhrman is very impressed.
January 24th, 2008 at 1:04 am
it suddenly came to me; I like big butts, and I dont know why.
