Cowardly Clemens Moves Up His House Committee Hearing to Feb. 5 – Super Tuesday*
Baseball, Mitchell Report, Politics January 25th. 2008, 4:10pm
[Ed. Ok, it looks like his interview with "committee staff lawyers" has been pushed up to Feb. 5th. "It will mark the first time Clemens will speak under penalty of prosecution if he is not truthful" is how the NYT phrased it. However, his public hearing (the one that'll be on TV) still is scheduled for the 13th.] Yet another reason to detest that alleged cheater, Roger Clemens – he has moved his House oversight and government reform committee date from February 13 to the 5th. No big deal, right? Except that regardless of what happens to Clemens on that day – he’s exposed as a liar, he admits getting steroids injected into his ass – the real news will come from the political realm since it’s Super Tuesday. Presidential primary elections will be held in twenty-four states while Clemens is sweating in from the committee, and in what is shaping up to be a historical election, every newspaper in the country will lead with the news of the winners and losers. Above the fold. And perhaps in 48 point font.
So in that sense, Clemens may get buried twice on Feb. 6.
Thanks to Lion in Oil for pointing this out.

Off topic, but this is some great in depth reporting

Al Davis really needs to be put out to pasture, is he trying to break the all time record of coaches hired in a 10 year span?
Who the hell would want to coach that mess?

Will the Suns be the shirts or the skins?

Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi, Rafael Palmeiro, Iván RodrÃguez,Juan González, and ordonez are just a few Canseco has named

@irish
Well then you have to say that Fat Albert is guilty as well then, right?
I just believe Jose Canseco has zero credibility in this. And IF Maggs took anything it would have been HGH for his knee rehab, which I admit is not that far fetched. Isn’t HGH for rehab legal anyway? He wasn’t playing while injured, he was getting better whle injured, correct? I just don’t get the allegation.

Is that…? No, can’t be! It’s Art Shell’s music!

cbh49er, even though it sounds like par for the course with Al Davis, remember one thing:
Chris Mortensen is reporting it. That means 50/50 it’s bullshit.

TBL I humbly request that you use this picture of Clemens instead: http://a.abcnews.com/images/Sports/523bbf20-833e-4910-922f-9c9b8cab6f8b_ms.jpeg
There’s no evidence, yet, that he juiced while he was on the Astros. Besides, we’re hurting bad enough having traded for Tejada the day before the Mitchell Report came. God I already hate Ed Wade….

albert belle used juice, yes maggs i believe that

I do thank Al Davis for exhuming Art Shell last year. As a naieve child I saw the Raiders make the playoffs with him as coach and believed he was a good coach. Last year showed me the light, I do miss his blank stare into space and his bed and breakfast offensive coordinator.

irish…i think he was talking about poo-holes.
mags, im sorry, but canseco does have credibility. he was the catalyst for this whole ’scandal’ and the majority of the stuff in his book has been proven true. this little snafu with the real mags is unfortunate, and it does paint canseco to be a sleaze-ball, but at the same time, he has a pretty good batting average with his accusations so-far.
plus, you can never trust a man with a jheri curl.

EveryOnes’ focusing on the elections. No one has mentioned that the week leading up to this is SuperBowl week, and the SuperBowl is on the third. The medium Clemens really has to worry about is ESPN. This hearing will get very little coverage on ESPN leading up to and, after the game. The election’s just icing on the Cake.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
So much for Clemens wanting the truth (whatever that means) to come out. That story will be buried like the Dana Jacobsen tapes.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
TBL, I think you misread the article. The Feb. 13 hearing will go on as scheduled with Roger Clemens. Clemen’s pre-hearing interview was postponed 10 days. He didn’t postpone it, the Congressional interviewer did. Presumably, to collect more evidence.

When did Chris Mortensen take over this blog?
January 25th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
I’m sure there will still be a three-hour SportsCenter Special followed by a two-hour Outside the Lines on both days regardless of the full media plate.
January 25th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Did you really have to put him in an Astros Uni

@ THE 412:
ART SHELL HAS JUST ENTERED THE ROYAL RUMBLE ! AND HE TOSSES OUT MICK FOLEY AND BATISTA IN SUCCESSION. DEAR GOD !
January 25th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Oh yes the Royal Rumble, getting it on Sunday!!!!

Because im sure ESPN will be following the state elections. They will still follow this story non stop. Stop over analyzing everything and leave Clemens alone. Hes innocent until proven guilty.
