Breaking News: Redskins fire Gregg Williams and Al Saunders
Blithering Idiots, NFL January 26th. 2008, 2:40pmWell this is just getting weird. Per Foxsports’ Jay Glazer and NFL.com, Dan Snyder has formally waved good bye to both of his coordinators. In their place, Greg Blache takes over the defense and Jim Zorn is now offensive coordinator.
Naturally, Dan Snyder has much to say about the change:
“Greg Blache is an outstanding coach with deep experience. Players respond to him, and his co-workers respect him. He has our full confidence. We’re counting on Jim to continue Jason Campbell’s growth, while moving our offense forward. … The process of selecting a new head coach continues, although no hire is planned until after the Super Bowl so as not to distract from the Championship game as well as to keep open all our options.”
Wow. This can’t make the fans in Washington very happy, especially with the perceived notion that a lack of Gregg Williams means Jim Fassel is on his way in as head coach. That rumor has subsided, but perception is reality. For the time being, I’m imagining lots of screaming and unmitigated violence pouring out of our nation’s headquarters.
NFL insider Jay Glazer adds that the Rams and Jaguars are already courting Gregg Williams. Â My money says Williams will land in Jacksonville, just because no one in there right mind would want to work for the organizational disaster that is the St. Louis Rams.Â

Dan Snyder, officially the most hated man in Washington DC. If he ran against Crackhead Barry for anything right now, he’d lose.
Dan Snyder is Scum

Its obvious the emperor has no clothes

Is it not particularly ass-backwards to hire coordinators before you hire a head coach? Who would want to take a head coaching job where you don’t have a say in hiring the members of your own staff?

Somebody needs to fire Dan Snyder….

Jerk around your respected D Coordinator for two weeks with FOUR f’ing interviews, string along Jim Fassel then leave him hanging, hire your coordinators before hiring your head coach, and have Vinnie Cerrato and the Napolean complexed owner make all football decisions.
What, you telling me this isn’t how successful teams are built?

Redskins nation might riot in the streets.
I might join them.

@Dirty,
As someone whose NFL team is the Lions, let me tell you how to run a successfull team:
Name a guy GM who has no NFL front office experience.
Let him draft WR’s for three years straight. Keep only one of them, because the other two were colossal busts.
Give him five year extension after a season in which his overrall record was 21-59
Record at this point is 31-81, with no end in sight.

If I’m Steve Spagnuolo, taking the Redskins job would be a huge career misstep. Stick it out with the G-Men for maybe another year and then take over the 49ers after Nolan gets fired for hiring that bum Martz.

@Unreliable
Thanks for reminding me of another reason why the Lions GM sucks: Mike Martz

@ pretty much everyone in the last few comments: thanks for reminding me why the Rams didn’t win more than one Super Bowl: Mike Martz.

Wow, and all along I thought this guy was the front runner for the Head Coach job… Instead he gets the axe? Dan Snyder is finally certifiably nuts.

As long as “Redskin Nation” continues to make money for Danny Boy, all the riots in the world won’t discourage him.
Redskin fans are stuck in a Stockholm situation, which should be renamed Snyder Syndrome.
