Alyssa Milano Embraces the NHL All-Star Game
Athletes and Celebrities, NHL January 28th. 2008, 9:07am
Alyssa Milano’s cheating on baseball! For reasons we cannot explain, she showed up at NHL All-Star weekend in Atlanta. (Tim Riggins was there, too! Who knew he had an NHL blog?) The only connection we can think of is that she dated Wayne McBean of the Islanders in the 80s and is tired of baseball players. She sat in the stands (photo after the jump) and watch the East beat the West, 8-7.
All of this is immaterial, because the real news is that starting Wednesday, we’re going to have a passionate hockey fan writing a daily NHL recap, not unlike beloved Ballin’ or even-cooler Yardwork! (As of now, it lacks an original title, so if you’ve got any bright ideas, have at it.) Here’s the extent of all we can tell you about hockey right now: the NHL must do whatever it can to get Pittsburgh and Washington into the postseason, because Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin are two of the best marketing draws in the league, and without them, it’s just another reason to not care about the sport. It’d be like LeBron and Kobe missing the NBA playoffs.

Way back in the day–I was still in high school!–she dated Rob Brown, a then young star on the Penguins. That was ~ ‘87/88, so I’m guessing that would have made her about 16 at the time (?).

I love Alyssa, but this unrelenting desire for athlete meat has me worried.
I guess her reputation around baseball has forced her to another sport.
Word is that she is the honorary ref for the World Lacrosse Championship next year.

She really does not care that she is becoming the world’s most famous groupie. She travels around under the guise of promoting her “women’s hockey/baseball clothing line.” At least be a little more discreet.

She reminds me of a young Teri Hatcher.

I say keep it simple – call it something like Icing or Backchecking
Also, from the first photo, is it cold in here? Apparently there are some additional benefits of hot celebs being near frozen surfaces.

pki – her and Teri are only 8 years apart in age.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Anyone know if Riggins put the moves on her?
January 28th, 2008 at 9:21 am
She’s purty.

Hey, why not use what little credit as an actress to move into new arenas like blogging, selling clothes, and laying underneath professional athletes?
Suggested Name: Puck Off.

she just wants more eurotrash dick

Those are the best tickets she could get? She must have walked up to the booth 10 minutes before gametime.
Seriously, I kid because I care. It’s good to see you putting in a new NHL column

Who can fall on their back faster for an athlete? Alyssa or Jen Sterger?
January 28th, 2008 at 9:58 am
This might not be funny, but her original intent on being there was to hawk her clothing line.
Whether she banged six hockey players after the game is up for review.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Cjzimm – Given her top heavy nature, Jen Sterger only falls forward.

I say call it the Blue Line. Or Penalty Box.

To Alyssa:
Please stay away from Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews.
Sincerely,
Every Chicago Blackhawks Fan

@jim:
Here’s to you Mrs. Robinson
Glad to see an NHL recap going up. For a title: Slap Shots
January 28th, 2008 at 10:41 am
How about this title: The MLS is More Popular Than Us

Why the hell does the NHL have their All Star Game on Versus, a network no one watches????
NBC wouldn’t have made a tad bit more sense?
January 28th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Hockey is such an underrated sport, but it has more than a few obstacles to becoming bigger than, say, pro bowling. The big five problems (IMHO):
1. It’s an awful television sport (though improved greatly in HD)
2. Not only is it not a good TV sport, but it’s on a network most of us still don’t get
3. Not indirectly related to #2, as it is not on a major network–and has no relation to ESPN–it gets virtually zero coverage from the WWL.
4. The league has over-expanded (there’s an NHL team in Nashville!!?) and has thusly thinned out the talent base.
5. Unlike the other major sports, virtually nobody is interested in regular-season games not involving their team (in contrast, casual NFL fans will sit through the Arizona Cardinals play the Atlanta Falcons).
That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong…

You are entirely correct 412. I used to follow hockey much closer when I was a kid, and loved watching the Stanley Cup playoffs. Now that it is on Versus, I never watch because I don’t even know what channel Versus is on my cable.
I am going to a Caps game Saturday and will have a great time but hockey is a horrible sport to watch on TV. You can’t even see what the hell they are chasing the entire game.
January 28th, 2008 at 11:03 am
@the 412:
I think you have touched on some good points. I don’t think it’s awful on TV, but the gap between TV and Live is more than any other major sport. HD TV does help, but the best way to make hockey popular is to get fans at the arena. This means at least have a section of cheap seats set aside for game-day buying, since tickets are too expensive.
ESPN, IMO, goes out of their way to “put hockey in their place”. I don’t think the NHL should go to a network that does that. Instead the NHL should try and get a deal with NBC that allows them to have games on USA or CNBC or whatever other network they have. This would give them more national exposure as Vs builds as a network. (Vs is getting bigger and is starting to get better distribution. They also do a good job with telecasts).
I disagree with talent, with European players, and the skating ability of players in general, I think the NHL talent is better than ever. I have always thought that the NHL expanded into non-traditional hockey markets too quickly, for a quick cash grab. Southern, warm weather markets take a huge investment in, the key example being the Stars. They invested heavily into youth hockey in the community and such to gain a foothold in Dallas. With towns like Anaheim, Atlanta, Tampa, Nashville, Miami etc. all getting franchises at the same time, and the owners refusing to use those expansion fees to actually invest in those markets, it’s no wonder they are struggling.
Those are my takes.

If I’m an GM of any professional team, I add Alyssa Milano to the Skank Clause of any contract I offer to an athlete.
Skank clause currently includes:
Paris Hilton
Brittany Spears (or any other Spears child)
Nicole Richie
Jessica Simpson
Lindsay Lohan
Kim Kardashian
Any cast member of an MTV “reality” show
Tawny Katein

1) i have yet to see hockey on hd. but i’ve heard glowing reviews.
2) nhl center ice for the second half season (including playoffs) is only $30. that’s not a typo. only 30 freaking bills!
3) the nhl does not need bspn. it’s ratings on a station few know they have — and others claim they don’t get — is almost even with what bspn had. plus, with significantly more highlights from free on nhl.com, there’s no need at all for the nhl to be on bspn. that’s the equivilent of letting the grade school bully beat you up each day so he might be your friend.
4) the league is making more cash with overexpansion than it did before.
5) to a lesser degree, baseball is like that too. the only thing saving baseball that way is rotisserie baseball.

She got a taste of the athlete wang at an early age and couldn’t go back.
