The Roundup: Must Be Nice To Just Up And Go On Vacation
Athletes and Celebrities, Bill Simmons, NBA, Television, UFC February 6th. 2008, 7:53am
Happy Wednesday, everyone…
Cousins of Ron Mexico, here to guide you through your day while TBL is on vacation….and what a vacation it will be!
We will be checking email (from our phone on a beach with a beer in hand), and the kind, understanding wife has said that we can bring the computer, so who knows, maybe we’ll drop in a post or two.
Yup, if you’re at the beach this week and happen to see this guy soaking up some rays, make sure to say, “Hey, TBL - love the beachwear!”
As you know, yesterday was Super Tuesday. Some “media outlets*” called the primaries too early and way too incorrectly….That’s just irresponsible journalism if you ask me….Luckily for you guys, I don’t get into politics…Mostly because my they make my roommate yell.
As for Sara Foster…I have no explanation for how she got here…
Yes, I know about the possible Shaq-for-Matrix trade and I’ll deal with it later - especially if something actually happens. (Sports by Brooks)
I for one am in favor of an obesity law - as long as restaurants consider a 5-foot, 8-inch, 275 pound man “svelte.” (Pantagraph.com)

Question: Why do they call it National Signing Day if you really don’t have to sign?
Answer: T. Pryor hates me.
Oh, and you forgot to mention Coach K. looks like a ratweaselmouse.
February 6th, 2008 at 8:17 am
I’ll be sure to work that into the West Coast feed.

Bridget needs to get over it already. She is like every other ex-wife/girlfriend who is bitter..

I was just looking at the top recruiting classes, and The Big 11 has 5 teams in the top 25. I don’t know if this will transfer into wins on the field, but it looks like this conference is coming back. I am really excited to see what my Gophers can do with some talent.

maggs i still think he announces today…

@pkiguy22
I can’t believe you guys got that QB. If he doesn’t de-commit I would be suprised, no offense. But excellent haul if he stays. The thing about the Big Ten and “being good” is, it is all a smear campaign really. If more people talk about the SEC being better, then people believe it. Just as if people say the economy is bad, people believe it. Does anybody really have any clue as to why? Maybe, but they probably just heard it or read it or something. The Big Ten will be fine, it always is and always was and always will be.

Eli to Tiki:
“We had the right players on the field.”
PWNED!
February 6th, 2008 at 8:38 am

Nothing I want to do more than chronicle some kid holding a gymnasium full of classmates and national press hostage while he juggles 5 stupid hats.
February 6th, 2008 at 8:41 am
you guys should teach TBL how to make links automatically open in new tabs… it makes for a much better browsing experience
February 6th, 2008 at 8:42 am
Spencer - no need. Terrelle has stated in today’s paper that he’s “100% sure he’s not signing today.”
February 6th, 2008 at 8:43 am
G Man +1
February 6th, 2008 at 8:44 am
@Roethlishotdog - at least he’s finally committed to something
February 6th, 2008 at 8:45 am
CRM i want biscuits out of you this week
February 6th, 2008 at 8:46 am
CRM, will Schnaars be around today to comment on Super Tuesday? I like his posts.
Also, Sara Foster looks like a young Molly Sims, no?
February 6th, 2008 at 8:47 am
@Roethlishotdog
Hence, my first comment. Terrelle hates me, my family, all of my friends and most likely my first grade teacher. I love you Mrs. Fry!
February 6th, 2008 at 8:47 am
There’s a Schnaars post ready for you guys once you get your caffeinated beverage of choice in you
February 6th, 2008 at 8:49 am
so lets see. he goes from ‘80%’ likely that hes going to sign, then ‘50/50,’ then ‘100%’ hes not going to sign.
does he wake up every morning and do a check? is he like, “well, today’s going to be an 85% day based on my 90% wakeup and 80% breakfast?” jesus tapdancing christ.

This Shaq trade is mindboggingly. They go from trading 2 first round picks and Kurt Thomas for a bag of beans to cut salary, now they’re taking on a 36 year old Shaq making $20MM for the next 3 (maybe 2?) years?
Ricockulous.

i think Michigan will let him play right now and OSU will make him wait until half way through the year or maybe next year. I think the kid wants to play right away and the only school that will let him is Michigan. Henne is gone, Boeckman is still there.
February 6th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Not sure what Phoenix is doing.
February 6th, 2008 at 9:08 am
irish, his dad said that playing right away not that important for him and he might think its better to sit for a little and learn

but then again you have this article from also today that says he will sign:

so who knows whats up

Robert Sarver is a moron. The Suns sold picks every draft, they could have Luol Deng and Rajon Rondo if they have keep the picks, but they wanted to keep behind the luxury tax, so now they trade for an aging Center that would play 2 minutes in a run-and-gun system before passing out on the floor?
Did they really believe Shaq would provide the defense they wanted without demanding a proeminent role on offense? No way. If they want a defensive presence, why didn’t they trade for Big Ben? He have a good contract and he’s not going to complain about not being a focal point on offense.
The Suns are a run and gun team, that’s why Nash, Amare and Leandrinho are effective, and now with Shaq and Hill they are not going to run, if they do that, they would play 4 on 5 because Shaq would be at midcourt when they try to score.
I’m still waiting for Pat Riley saying this is just an attempt to raise the interest in Shaq.
February 6th, 2008 at 9:19 am
I’m kind of surprised Pryor’s not doing it today. The WPIAL (Western PA) basketball playoffs start this weekend (Jeannette is the No. 2 seed for AA sized schools) and last the next couple of weeks, and then we go right into the state (PIAA) playoffs through St. Patty’s day. I thought he’d just get it over with to avoid the media hassle during the hoops run.
February 6th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Maggs, I’m with you on the perception thing. The SEC has some very good teams, but every year like 9 teams are ranked, and only 4 or 5 are really any good. But the beat each other, so all 9 have “quality wins”, since they’re beating ranked teams. And when one of the 4 good teams beats one of the ranked, but actually crappy teams, everyone loses their shit over how great LSU is (and they are actually very good) because of all the ranked teams they beat. Its a self-fulfilling prophecy.
February 6th, 2008 at 9:33 am
I’m going to go out on a limb and say Shaggy is the catalyst.
February 6th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Looks as though http://www.postgazette.com/pg/08037/855148-49.stm in the TP sweepstakes.
February 6th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Sorry…for the brain fart above. But, you get the point if you click on the link. TP is looking hard at PSU.
February 6th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Cuz, I always said that Sara Foster was a sneaky little runt.
Wait, did I say runt ?
