Kevin Hart is Pathetically Awesome
Blithering Idiots, College Football February 7th. 2008, 1:45pm
That Kevin Hart story you read about yesterday? Well apparently it was all a one man show, written, produced and performed by Kevin Hart.Â
Cousins of Ron Mexico broke the story (on this site, that is) and was dead on with his assessment: “whoever did this was good – they were able to convincingly portray Cal Coach, Jeff Tedford.”
You betcha.
As of yesterday, authorities were still putting the pieces together and suspected a 3rd party might be involved in the “dupe-job” of the high schooler. It turns out, it was Hart all along.Â
[cue evil laughter]
Hart said he had wanted to play football at a Division I school “more than anything.” When I realized that wasn’t going to happen, I made up what I wanted to be reality. I am sorry for disappointing and embarrassing my family, coaches, Fernley High School, the involved universities and reporters covering the story.”
“It was total news to me, and it’s unfortunate that that whole situation is what it is,” (Cal coach Jeff) Tedford said.
How in the name of Anthony Munoz did Hart’s parents not think anything was up? Monitor your children, people. Watch their time on those Myspaces and ebays and what-have-yous.

A special thanks to Kevin Hart. [$8 Beers]

Where are all you guys who said yesterday that they felt sorry for this kid. This is one of the main reasons that we should stop hyping this “national signing day” crap.
February 7th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
I like his brazen stupidity.
February 7th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Suddenly Rich Rodriguez is in love with this kid.

February 7th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
come he’s 17…and a good but not great player, coming to grips with that is hard
it took me trying to walk on at Virginia to get it through my head…as it was almost taken off

This kid has a good head on his shoulders – Nick Saban
February 7th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Um no, no he did not. Deadspin had it a full day earlier.
/not hating on ya, CRM!
February 7th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Next up, he will find a cure for cancer.
February 7th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Do people still go to Deadspin?
February 7th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Maybe this kid just needs a hug. A big dumb hug.
February 7th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
February 7th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
@Nick P
I just realized I haven’t been there in weeks.
February 7th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Probably been 6 months or more for me, Maggs.
February 7th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Not missing anything.
February 7th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
i just visited deadspin. the look like they are TBL’s competition to me huh. i have never been there before but i noticed they had little flags where you can flag inappropriate comments. what kind of bullshit is that to flag someones opinion. of course not everyone is going to agree with everyone but what is the deal with the flagging.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Haha that kid is the ultimate douche.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Deadspin was the shit a couple of years ago…but now it’s about as edgy as ESPN Page 2.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Kid should have played it off as a massive prank. I wanted to play D-1 golf, win the masters, have Elin, but a little thing called talent stood in my way. That and my 9hdcp. Feeling bad cause you arent good enough isnt a good reason to do this. Wanting to get on tv and cause the media to go nuts, thats a good reason.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
The problem I have with Deadspin are the comments. It’s just a string of pithy, unrelated one-liners. There is little dialogue.
/And on that note…dick joke.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
I felt kind of bad when I suggested that if he landed some nice tail he should on hotchickswithdouchebags.com. Now I will make it my mission to ensure that someday happens.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
I guess I’m confused on how all this “credit” thing works then. So any post here is “broken” by it’s author? Shaq traded to the Suns, broken by TBL!
Anyway, that kid . . . yikes, what was he thinking?
February 7th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Nick, I could not agree more re the commenters. They don’t even talk about, you know, sports. Then again, it is a Gawker blog, and they’re angry as hell.
Still, whenever Leitch does get around to actually authoring a post himself, they’re pretty good.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
He wasn’t.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
@cbh:
why are you going to help that kid get hot tail?
February 7th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
@pki guy–I’m right here, man. Let’s remember that when I made my comment yesterday, I was going off of what details everyone had at the time. If what we knew yesterday was true, then yes, I stand by my opinion. But now, knowing what really happened? He’s a complete douche bag.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
In a related story, I am putting my name in the NFL Draft you guys. My agent (me) has said I am a mid to late first round prospect. I have spoken with a number of coaches (me) and they (me) think that I have a bright future in the NFL.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Hahhahaha, good point jibble, I just find that site hilarious, my mission is that if the kid ever lands hot tail that I find a picture and make sure he get’s on hotchickswithdouchebags.com
February 7th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
yea, i never got into deadspin’s commenting, some of them are pretty hysterical tho.
deadspin was great about a year ago. i got sucked in right before the NFL playoffs. then after AJ went to the Super Bowl, it kinda lost its steam. still good stuff every now and then. plus BDD’s jambaroo and MJD’s smorgasbord were must reads.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
“auditioning” to be given the “priviledge” to comment on Deadspin has always been a huge turn off. Some stuff on there is funny, but not much with substance.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Where’s Ashton Kutcher? Is this a new one hour Punk’d special?
February 7th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Stunner, Stunner, Stunner on Kevin Hart. By God he is broken in half, Austin stopmed a mudhole on Hart and walked it dry, he beat him like a government mule!

February 7th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Sean Jean…i just spoke to the combine people and they said theyve never heard of you.
mel kiper says you could us another year in school to improve your upper body strength tho and zone recognition skills.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
oh, and leitch’s book was a good 2 day read.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Sean Jean – take pride though, Jay Bilas said you have tremendous upside and can “Leap out of a gym”
February 7th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
@Sean: 5.5 40 is just not going to cut it.

February 7th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Hahah damn Sterling, I was trying to think of what Bilas says all of the time.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Chad Ford thinks you should be more European.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I’m conflicted. I want to see the Cal coach take pitty on this kid and give him a scholarship. And on the first day of practice, I want him to tear his ACL. I think that makes it a win-win for everybody.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
@Sean: a 5 on the Wunderlick is not going to cut it.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

or a U of Miami athlete.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
top recruiting class this year what
February 7th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
You have to apply to post there? I just go there and post and then Lietch says he’s never heard of me and i say i made it all up.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Screw you guys. I was assured that I have a great motor, as well as having tremendous wingspan. I’m a European son of a former player who is physically mature and lead my team to 4 state championships. I lettered in 3 sports, was Valedictorian, and nailed two chicks at same time at prom. I can also burp the alphabet and throw a football over them mountains.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
@spencer
which book?
February 7th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
@Sean Jean: Tremendous leader, versatile, smart, and loves threesomes. a true 5 star athlete
February 7th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
benji what college program you like?
February 7th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
But your Wonderlic score is -3, Sean.
Too bad. Might we suggest a career in the Arena Football League?
As for Kevin Hart, well, you create a monster like “Signing Day” and it shouldn’t be a surprise that some seek to take advantage of it.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
yea, but you did it against inferior competition and your lack of ‘elite’ speed doesn’t allow you to get as much separation. plus, kiper said this not me, you seem to play slower in pads. im just saying.
i wish i could get a scouting report on my life. itd probably read:
February 7th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Iowa Hawkeyes. They have the 8th best recruiting class in the big ten. But its the strongest 8th best class in years(hoping this is true).
February 7th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
PE…God Save the Fan. it was pretty good, i burnt thru it in 2 days tho, so its a quick read. my only criticism is that the book reads the exact same as a chuck klosterman book, only without the sharp wit. still, i recommend.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
iowa huh. okay. well i graduated from the U. Best college football program ever in the nation. If second to anyone, its second to USC. Iowa has put out what one good player in the past ten years, Bob Sanders.
how many has the U put out?
February 7th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Dallas Clark went to Iowa too.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Yeah my Wonderlic score is low. When they started the test I just shit my pants and passed out. Apparently that was still higher than Vince Young though.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
irish: I’m a U fan too. Went to UT but family is from and I was born in Miami. Glad to see Shannon got it done in recruiting his first go around.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
I would agree that the U. prepares players for the NFL better. But Iowa prepares them for life better. How many Iowa players took off their helmets and smash players from FAU? Mike Sellers went to Iowa. He’s decent. Aaron Kampman is an above average DE in the NFL. There’s more I don’t care to list.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
eric steinbach went to iowa. so did robert gallery…oh you said GOOD players.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
cbh god damn you, okay two. maybe greenway also
February 7th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
How’d I forget about DC? My bad.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
i know sean jean you and i were the only ones sticking up for that national champioship hoax lol
February 7th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
Irish you will damn me more after this one.
Charlie Weis has had highly ranked recruiting classes, games aren’t won on signing day.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
LeBron > Dwight Howard
2002 OSU > 2002 Miami
February 7th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
i don’t hate the U. i just was pointing out that they have players that test really really low on the Wunderlick i.e. Frank Gore and the Edge.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Kevin Hart banged three chicks at once Sean John.
/ Jeff Ted…Kevin Hart
February 7th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
frank gore has serious mental problems. the fact that he graduated is one of the most impressive things ive ever read about. he gets a pass.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I wonder if Willie Williams could’ve broken his score?
February 7th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
benji in all actuality you should of said Iowa. Willie Williams went to Louisville also.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
willie williams wouldve broken his nose. then wrote about it in his newspaper’s diary.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Louisville is not in Iowa. I’m confused?
February 7th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
@spencer: that Diary series was top 10 hilarity.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Brock Berlin had a crazy low Wonderlick score as well.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
I was going to point that out, but Brad Banks got a 13 as well. Iowa sure has had some issues with their football program since ‘05. I think Fehrentz can turn it around though. They had absolutely no playmakers on offense (the top 2 recievers got kicked off for credit card fraud, look what doug gottlieb started) except Albert Young and when teams played the run, they couldn’t do anythign.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
willie williams the LB went to Louisville instead of Miami i said benji
February 7th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Who’s more delusional, this kid or irish saying that he graduated from college? I mean, what are the chances?
February 7th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
i thought he went to the U. for a year or two then went to Louisville. I know he just got kicked off the team at Louisville. Waste of talent.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
yes he was a waste of talent benji. he got kicked out of Louisville for smoking that shit.
h8r all your posts mention me so i am begginning to think you wear the same color shirt as Roy Williams every day
February 7th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Sean Jean,
Please pick up the phone, Snoop Dogg has used his first round pick for his U14 football squad on your dead ass.
February 7th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
The real question is: Why Cal? Tedford’s greatest claim to fame is producing marginally horrendous talents such as Kyle Boller, Joey Harrington, and Akili Smith. Even if this guy is a sloppy faced OL, you could at least dupe the country into thinking you’re going to Ohio State or Nebraska where they treat you big oafs like kings.
