And we return from vacation to your friend and ours, Minka Kelly and her surprising decolletage … we probably will end up covering some of what we missed in the last five days, but we’ll try not to bore you too much, since Cousins of Ron Mexico and Patrick Imig did a splendid job filling in … it’s probably too late for this, but what the hell … RIP Roy Scheider, who was tremendous in Jaws – one of our favorite movies of all-time … here are your Grammy winners, should anyone care …
Michelle Tafoya and Suzy Kolber will have their MNF roles greatly reduced next season – and this has nothing to do with Tafoya calling Paul Pierce ‘Bruce’ Sunday on National TV. (USA Today)
What’s happening to sports radio in Chicago? (Sun-Times)
Damn, we totally missed clutch freshman Eric Gordon treated like crap before a win at Illinois, including a shocking rough ‘chest-bump’ prior to tip-off. (Can’t Stop the Bleeding)
Jimmie Johnson grabs the Daytona 500 poll. (LA Times)
Much debate over the use of the word ‘great’ by sportswriters. (Charlotte Observer)
This Derek Jeter interview pales to the one in Allure Magazine in which – according to a reader – the Yankees shortstop apparently flirts with the writer the entire time. (NYDN)
In case we don’t get to a college hoops post today – UCLA was stunned in Washington last night, 71-61. (Seattle P-I)
By now you’ve probably seen the video of this nutty brawl in NYC, in which it looks like two drivers ran into people. (CBS 2)
A poor showing in the Pro Bowl for Derek Anderson. (Kid Cleveland)
Potential NHL trade-deadline moves. (Sports Opinion)
The San Diego Padres will not be going after Barry Bonds. (Union-Tribune)
Hey, why not have ESPN cover the elections? (HNT)
We’ll have more on this in Top Shelf, but damn, that Richard Zednik incident looks scary as hell. (On Fronzen Blog)

The Foo Fighters won a Grammy. That’s really all you need to know about the meaning of the award.
February 11th, 2008 at 8:21 am
Wow. TBL actually posted a NASCAR link!
February 11th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Way too cold and nasty to go to work today, sick days are the best.
February 11th, 2008 at 8:27 am
Better solution for MNF – drop my boy TK, and stop having damn guests in the booth. I love Tony, but if they’re wanting to cut the chatter down, his time is the least valuable of the crew, IMO.
I had no idea the Grammys were on last night. Even if I had known, there’s no way in hell I would have been watching.
February 11th, 2008 at 8:33 am
I don’t suppose ESPN–or some other network–may still save FNL?
February 11th, 2008 at 8:35 am
BTW, TBL, the bigger NASCAR stories are:
1) Dale Jr wins the Budweiser Shootout on Saturday night. It was his first race with his new team after not having won for close to 2 years with DEI (the company his father built).
2) Michael Waltrip qualifies second, guaranteeing him a starting spot in the Daytona 500. He’s one year removed from getting caught with some kind of fuel additive in his intake (at Daytona) and being thrown out for cheating.
3) Toyota’s strong showing throughout Speedweeks, carrying through to Stewarts’ second place finish in the Shootout, Waltrip’s second fastest speed in qualifying, and an overall good showing in qualifying.

Get ready for a whole bunch of Erin Andrews on MNF.
February 11th, 2008 at 8:43 am
Jeff, how about Stewart punching Busch after their altercation on the track and nothing being done about it..
February 11th, 2008 at 8:47 am
Two things I had no idea were on last night: The Grammy’s and the Pro Bowl.
February 11th, 2008 at 8:52 am
I had to look up the definition of the word decolletage.
February 11th, 2008 at 8:54 am
This from the same USA Today link above:
Gee…glad they didn’t ask Osi Umenyiora the same question.
February 11th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Who knew TBL was so erudite?
February 11th, 2008 at 8:58 am
To the best of my knowledge, that has not been confirmed. That being said, knowing Tony’s history with Kurt specifically, and with society in general, it wouldn’t shock me one bit.

Hey, an award!– Awww, it’s a Grammy.
February 11th, 2008 at 9:06 am
How about getting that slut from Nip/Tuck (the young one) some morning roundup love?
February 11th, 2008 at 9:11 am
herbie hancock won album of the year? holy shit!!! this is huge! an actual musician won an award!!!
joking aside…it was a pretty badass CD.
but if perennial winners alicia keys and kanye are what the grammy people consider good music, they need a fucking lesson.

Ok…that was the first time I have ever read a Jay Mariotti column. I know people trash him all the time…so I am reading the thing about crappy radio talk show hosts and he is on point and makes valid points and criticisms then…boom totally falls off the track starts in on Jerry Reinsdorf and Ozzie Guillen…is this how a typical column reads? Is every column a veiled topic filled in with personal grudges?
February 11th, 2008 at 9:16 am
In Mariotti’s defense, Reinsdorf and Guillen are really, really bad at their jobs. Really bad. Has anyone else fallen ass backwards into a WS trophy despite utter incompetence quite like Ozzie? He tried to screw it up, but the pitching staff said, “No, we got it Ozzie. You keep trying to screw up our offense.”
February 11th, 2008 at 9:21 am
RWH, having lived in Chicago for almost ten years, yes, Mariotti is a douchebag and writes like one. A lot of time he is calling out the local sporting incomptence but still manages to do so in an asstastic fashion.
February 11th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Way to class up the comments cjzimm.
February 11th, 2008 at 9:31 am
marriotti is bitter because he’s been canned by the two main chicago sports radio stations. mariotti is bitter because mike north pulls ratings is is actually entertaining and coppock has a rolodex that will blow you mind and people actually will return his calls and be on his show.
mariotti just gave chicago radio something to talk about for a few days/weeks.
February 11th, 2008 at 9:31 am
I don’t live in New York so I’ll ask what might seem like a dumb question: Are there usually a lot of brawls on Park Avenue near Central Park?
February 11th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Was that Randy Moss pushing people around with his car?
February 11th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Damn good memory, Benji
February 11th, 2008 at 10:13 am
ESPN covering the elections would be great. What a way to drum up public interest in the political process. Reminiscent of NASA sending Homer into space. I can see it now. Salisbury calling John Clayton a poor man’s Frank Perdue for backing Obama. Screaming A, losing his street cred for back Hilary. Berman grasping with the scraps of Bill Clinton. And Kiper putting Edwards, Bloomberg, Kaine on his Big Board for 2012.
February 11th, 2008 at 10:48 am
I GUARANTEE Mariotti has never listened to a minute of any local sports radio show because he’s busy being a self-absorbed douche bag. He got kicked off the radio because he doesn’t know a single fucking thing about Chicago or its sports teams. Seriously, I don’t even know why the guy continues to write about Chicago sports. He never goes to games, he never follows any player transactions (unless they’re discussed on Around the Horn), he does absolutely ZERO research on any of his subjects (he’s too famous!!), and overall, he’s not in touch with the city in general. I could write a column about Ozzie and Reinsdorf sucking, it’s common knowledge, and I’m not even a Sox fan!
February 12th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Are we sure that isnt Halle Berry behind the wheel?
