Though he didn’t say it, the reason Ozzie Guillen was muzzled last season was because he was losing. Often. You can’t mouth off when your team is winning games at the same rate as the Royals, so Ozzie closed his yap and got a 4-year extension. Good thing, because now that he’s got some job security and Nick Swisher’s bat in the lineup, he’s letting the expletives fly!
Among the many gems Guillen unleashed in a recent interview with the Sun-Times (via Can’t Stop the Bleeding):
* ”I’ll be cocky. If we win this year, I might run naked down Michigan Avenue like people expect me to do.”
* A couple of times I said, ‘We’ll be OK.’ [Expletive] OK, and I went off in Texas. You can only take so much.”
* ”I don’t give a [expletive] what people think about me”
* ”Then if you’re a nice guy, they are going to treat you the same way. [Expletive] it, be an asshole then. I would rather be an asshole winning than be a nice guy [expletive] losing. Give me an asshole who can win, don’t give me a nice guy who can [expletive] lose.”
* ”As long as I don’t rape anybody, as long a I pay my taxes, I don’t beat my wife … if I am going to be on the front page of the newspaper because of [expletive] baseball, I will take that. ”If more people treat baseball the way I treat baseball, this [expletive] game will be better.”

I was so distracted by Ozzie’s flurry of expletives that I didn’t notice he was kissing a man on the lips in that picture, he may not beat his wife but he just might be cheating on her.

I was disturbed by the kissing photo — yeech. As for Ozzie being Ozzie, I applaud him. How many of us wish we can go around and curse all day — in the office and to the press? It’s like the man is free of many of society’s constraints. Live in a little box he does not. I find that refreshing, and pleasantly anti-establishment (to a point). F The Police!

As one of a few White Sox fans on this board and someone who follows them fairly closely, Guillen is every bit as crazy as he appears. That, and he’s not a good strategy guy either. They won in ‘05 because the entire pitching staff had career years at the same time.
