While it looks like Brady Quinn’s career has been pushed back, Anderson started to struggle towards the end of last year, that contract he just signed doesn’t guarantee him the starting job if he is struggling.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
I want the Alycia Lane story to go away–the moment I’ve seen the bikini photos she sent to Rich Eisen.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
what was the hulkster thinking…oh thats right, twenty something tail
February 29th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
If you look at that 30 growing occupations, almost every one is either in health care or computers.
While some people have extenuating circumstances (medical bills, injured on the job), for the most part I don’t feel sorry for people with 20K in credit card dept. You obviously live well beyond your means, so I don’t want to hear about your whining.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Credit cards can actually be good IF you pay the balance on time, every time.
/still thinking about LOST
February 29th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
I think the article said she was 33, which if true, she looks damn good (slutty) for being 33.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
That wine tasting video was funny as shit.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
“Good read” and “Bill Conlin” should never be used in the same sentence, TBL.
I’m sure Gonzo (Philly guy) would attest to that.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
yeah your right, i saw the 24 above that
February 29th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
I have 1 credit card and I have used it 3 times in the last 5 years. I am a little old fashioned in the sense that if I can’t afford it now, I save up for it.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
@coop: Why can’t they just give the list?!? Why do they think people want to scroll through 30 pages, so stupid. Forbes Online does the same BS.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Actually, we’re of the opinion that Brady Quinn will get a fair shot at the job…
February 29th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
The “hot coaches wives” is somewhat of a stretch.
I still like Coach Taylor’s wife. MILF.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
cleveland guys…smells like a sign and trade to me. why havent we heard a presser from savage yet? why hasnt DA signed the contract yet? phil savage, draft guru, without a pick until the 3rd round?
something stinks…
February 29th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Is coach Lavin’s wife still in college? Not bad, don’t let Musberger go near her though.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
i guess i shouldve read the article first…i basically repeated it.
im a dumbass.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Yeah, Forbes is another one that is terrible with that shit, they do it for every list.
I don’t think they would have bothered with a sign and trade. If another team made him a tender and Clev Brownies (shout out to Myron) didn’t match they would have gotten a 1st and 3rd. I doubt someone will give them more than that in a trade.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
I give Quinn a lot of shit for ESPN’s ridiculous coverage of him and the fact that he got commercials before he set foot on the field, but I am of the opinion that he will be the starter by the end of next year. Bad quarterback play, injuries, anything can happen. The Browns had to sign Derek Anderson because it would have been a disaster if they didn’t at least give him a chance to stay.
Wow, that Bill Conlin thing was a blast from the past. I thought he died when he stopped being on The Sports Reporters. I guess he just pissed off Lupica or something.
As for ESPN and Knight, I’m trying to mute my anger on this. But I can’t for the life of me think of another cable network that has such a contempt for its core audience. No other network intentionally tries to piss off its hardcore fan base with shit like this while they go for bigger numbers and hype and controversy. If ESPN ran The Weather Channel, they’d probably stop talking about the weather and show “Twister” all the time. Hey, it’s abouut the weather!
February 29th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
TBL, are we getting a NFL free agent post or are we just working it in throughout the day?
February 29th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Spence…Anderson’s deal was reported around 11:00 and the Browns haven’t had any comment on it. They aren’t talking to the beat reporters? For a high profile position player? I’m skeptical at best.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Robert Montgomery Knight is such a complete douche. People were talking shit about Tony LaRussa here yesterday, but at least he has one in this century. Knight hasn’t been to the Final Four since ‘92!
February 29th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
This has to be shared: Sara Varone
I think Irish introduced us to her. Good work.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
And, if Anderson is getting a deal of that magnitude what will Roethlisberger get?
February 29th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
i introduced her yesterday, but anytime someone wants to revisit her, its alright with me. She’s a 10!!
February 29th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Irish should have his own weekly column on godzilla biscuits.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
nah, ill take credit for Sophia V
February 29th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Knight was a great coach, though. He just didn’t have the talent and refused to recruit guys he thought would leave after 1-2 years. It was a bad idea from the standpoint of adding banners to the wall, but it also led to never having NCAA recruiting violations or even suspected violations.
Tony Larussa is just a mega-douche.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Knight quit on his players. Not a sign of a great coach.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Knight is ~70 years old.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Bob Knight is a great coach. He knew they weren’t making the tourney so he wanted to get his son in there for the experience. It will be better in the long term (next year).
February 29th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Wouldn’t giving his son a whole year of experience rather than a half year experience be more valuable?
I think people are naieve that believe Knight quitting on his team was completely selfless.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Bill Conlin is still alive? Who knew?
I used to watch that fat bastard back in the good old days of “The Sports Reporters” with Dick Schapp…before it became the Lupica Show.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
I don’t think it was completely selfless but I don’t call him a quitter either. I think an additional half season is beneficial. He will still have the full season of experience next year.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
A “great” who hasn’t done anything in 15 years, as opposed to LaRussa who won the Series in 2006 and apparently deserves to be fired because he’s not a skilled baby-sitter. By his own definition, Knight is a sunt.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Screw Knight. Yeah he was a good coach, but screw him. In the first sentence of the justification in the press release, NORBY! said that he was hired because his (paraphrase) wealth of tournament experience and knowledge.
Well shit, if that’s just what they wanted, then why didn’t they just hire Gene Keady?
February 29th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
@412: Albert Pujols, Chris Carpenter, and co. won the WS. Unlike college hoops, the manager in baseball means jack, especially in a short series.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
TTU had winning seasons under Bob Knight every year except 2006. They only had 1 previous winning season since joining the Big 12 before Knight got there. TTU is not a basketball powerhouse by any means. Winning 20 games there is a big feat which Knight did from 02′-05. He did all this while graduation 90-whatever percent of his players. He’s got 900 wins. How can you dispute his greatness?
February 29th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Nick - Pujols batted .200 in the WS.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
@ Nick: you are correct. Conlin is just annoying.
He wrote an article during football season about Andy Reid. Reid has had weight problems evee since he has been Here. He has done ads by weight watchers and still his weight fluctuates.
Anyway, Conlin has written jokes in his articles about Reid and his weight, yet he shows up on the Philly sports show Daily News live missing his ENTIRE set of upper teeth. He is truly exhausting.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Detroit’s fielding won that World Series.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
OBP’d .400 too
February 29th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
does anyone know the significance of this running chick?
February 29th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
i was wondering the same thing Irish. Not sure.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
It signifies running towards the weekend.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
id do her
February 29th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
or running away from the snow
(destined here in Philly about 5pm)
February 29th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
benji - So, Pujols (hitting .200), Carpenter, and bad fielding by the Tigers won the Series for St. Louis. LaRussa had nothing to do with his team getting to and winning the championship?
For the second consecutive day I’m defending Tony Effing LaRussa. Goddamn you guys!
February 29th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Brady Quinn, Looking for an Exit
Brady Quinn hates people that look for an exit.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
412: please stop defending him. He’s a douche-fag.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
cbh - I know there’s a Brady Quinn there somewhere…I’m just too burnt out to think of it. One of my wife’s friends once joked that she had a tat above her ass that said “Exit Only”.
And with that…I’m outta here…and this time, I mean it.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
no, he was great when he said “keep hitting dribblers to third or the pitcher and let them throw it in the first row.”
February 29th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
He did have a calming presence in the dugout, probably because he was drunk.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Note to self: Don’t ever get baited into defending Tony LaRussa again. He is a dick.
Screw you guys, I’m going home!
February 29th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Threadjack: Patrick Patterson is out for the season.
Carry on…
February 29th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Take it easy 412
February 29th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
just the opposite actually. in a short series, a manager can fuck things up royally, which larussa has done time and again with his choice of pitchers.
he, larussa, got lucky as hell that a rookie he chose to pitch game 1 (!) in the 2006 series pitched out of his ass. and he was also lucky leyland chose not to pitch kenny rogers in game 5. (another example of how a manager in a short series can fuck things up).
i’ll never forget boston has a one-legged pitcher and f’ing larussa refused to bunt on him saying it wasn’t respectful to do that. what an assclown!!!
