The Star-Ledger looked into last week’s mini-dust-up about Seton Hall coach Bobby Gonzalez allegedly scuffling with an assistant coach and everybody at the school says nothing happened. “What happened was one of my assistant coaches stood up and yelled at the referee and the referee came by and told me to keep my assistant coaches quiet, so I turned around and yelled at the assistant coach not to say anything to the referees,” he said. Gonzalez said there was not an altercation in the locker room. “It flat-out never happened,” he said. “There was not a fight, not an argument. Nothing.”

If the coach has spoken, we have to believe him. Unfortunately, after the Pirates lost to St. John’s (yup, still a program, just not a good one since Gonzaga booted them in 2000) Saturday, it left Gonzalez in a tough spot – win his last two, and then reach the Big East tournament finals, or settle for the NIT.
