A Football Combine … For 2nd Graders
Youth Sports March 12th. 2008, 10:38am
An eagle-eyed reader in Ohio spotted this disturbing ad: a football league in Ohio is holding a football combine for 2nd graders tonight. We played plenty of youth sports, but never remember a combine, and certainly don’t recall anything that intense in 2nd grade. We’re curious – what battery of tests are being run on 7-year-olds? Is it even wise for young children to pump iron at that age? What value is there in the vertical leap of a child who cannot discern between a cover 2 and a prevent defense? Will Jim Tressel be in attendance?

This has disaster written all over it:

That site has to be fake, because no one would actually sign up for either the combine or Marvin Lewis Coach’s Clinic.

That’s funny. When I read the headline my first reaction was “Texas or Ohio?”

They’re making it mandatory that 7 year olds stay out after 9pm on a school night? LOL!

@ coop247:
What, do you think coaches just magically know how to take a right-hook to the jaw? That takes mentoring my friend.

Spitzer has resigned. Don’t you Northeasterners ever make fun of my Louisiana bretheren for the politicians we elect again.

they have these in florida as well if memory serves. it’s a football equivilent to little league tryouts.
did anyone notice this “ad” on that page?
will chad johnson be a guest speaker at the clinic? will mucho stinko (thanks florio) display the proper technique to slugging your coach at halftime?

At least half of them will beat Vince Young in the Wonderlic.

And it still won’t mean a damned thing…

Only that his agent will be able to skim millions off his paycheck because VY can’t read his contract. You got to love white collar crime.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:05 am
I bet the Wonderlic scores will beat Vince Young’s.

Also, I should read the comments more closely. Well played, cjzimm.

cjzimm, as long as VY can read the scoreboard I’ll take it.

This is only slightly less useful than one more minute of discussion about whether Syracuse is on or off the bubble.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Tressel will be there, checkbook in hand
March 12th, 2008 at 11:14 am
lozo, the league will survive!
As for the Cuse – hella ugly start with Nova. Just had the under 16 timeout, everyone is playing tight and chucking. ugly. surprised to hear bilas sounding like nova has a better shot than SU at this point.
8-5 cuse

Syracuse is on the bubble? Someone should have mentioned it.

Probably no chance in hell that the Big East games are streaming right now?
March 12th, 2008 at 11:16 am
f that league. good luck when people autodraft there way to a $150 million payroll.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Greene back to back 3’s, starting to cook: 15-7 Cuse
as for the autodraft … can’t do anything about that. shame on the d-bags who signed up and then lost interest

Spitzer has resigned. Don’t you Northeasterners ever make fun of my Louisiana bretheren for the politicians we elect again.
You’re right, David Vitter also promptly resigned after his phone number was found on the DC Madam’s list and was alleged to have also used a Louisiana Madam. Oh wait…

TBL & lozo – I know I don’t have a blog, but if that draft gets revived next year, I would definitely do it.

Rosehaus just signed the WR at the combine with the attitude problem and bad hads to a deal that includes a bag of skittles and a new Wii.
