Miss the splashy debut of Bob Knight on ESPN last night? Didn’t miss much. To recap: Digger Phelps laughed. With alarming frequency. At nearly everything Bob Knight said. There was some analysis sprinkled in. But really, we’re curious - is Digger’s knee-slapping laughter written into Knight’s contract? Did Knight demand that ESPN surround him with acolytes (read: old coaching friends)? Where’s USA Today superstar Doug Gottlieb? We know he’ll disagree with Knight.

digger is sucking up because bob knight isnt a pussy who will take digger’s BULLSHIT without saying something.
i cant stand digger phelps. if you had something intelligent or meaningful to say, you wouldnt have to resort to stupid gimmicks like matching your highlighter to your tie.

What bothered me most was that Rece Davis kept setting up questions with Coach this or Coach that. So not only did Bob Knight bring such scintillating things to the table like Villanova scoring 8 points at the end of the first half helped them in the second half…he has to be referred to as Coach…ridiculous.

i think Knight did a good job. I dont think any kind of blow up will happen. He is a great coach with great ideas/thoughts about the game.

knight was better than anyone on College (bball) Gameday except for maybe jay bilas.
why are there good personalities in all focuses on TV except for college bball. andy katz is the best you guys could do? he looks like a kid i did bong rips with every day in college.

if it wasn’t, it’s a smart move.
knight would likely freak out if he had to tolerate, say, neil everett. the possiblity that phelps and his matching ties and hiliters or vitale can pull knight the right way or lure something out of him is much greater than if stuart scott started yelling “boo-yah” at him.
knight is either hot or cold. i’ve seen interviews with him where he was put-the-clicker-down brilliant (his letterman appearances were classic). i’ve also seen interviews where he just rambles about boring shit and you can’t wait to resume surfing.
knight fancies himself as an unemployed comedian. unlike the other unemployed comedians at bspn, knight, when he wants to be, is funny as hell. and that’s the rub: how soon will he get bored?
i think that’s why phelps and vitale are there to nursemaid him. they know him well enough. they can keep him at least interested, thereby he will be a quality listen.

how about the puffy, “how did you and Digger become such great friends?” question during the break between evening Big East games? yuck.
BK did a good job though. they don’t need to puff him up. I think he’ll get tired of answering the same damn questions over and over again during the night. he had to talk about the last 8 pts in the 1H for ‘Nova 20 times!
