Ballin’: Deshawn Stevenson Scoffs at LeBron
NBA March 14th. 2008, 11:03am
Washington 101, Cleveland 99: Caron Butler’ scored 19 points in his return to the court after missing 16 games due to injury (on his 28th birthday, no less) and the Wiz survived a missed three at the buzzer from LeBron. It seems as if perhaps the Locksmith, who shot 19 percent in the playoff series against the Cavs last season, thinks LeBron is overrated.
Sacramento 96, Portland 85: This result is meaningless because neither team is playoff-bound but the fact that Greg Oden is practicing with the team - and even dunking on assistant coaches - is outstanding. Regardless of who wins the title this season, or who gets Michael Beasley or what happens on the free agent market … Oden and the Blazers are the No. 1 story for next season.
Phoenix 123, Golden State 115: Are we nuts thinking Boris Diaw’s one of the major keys to the Suns postseason success? There are going to be nights like last night when Shaq is in foul trouble (14 minutes), and Tony Parker’s buddy is the only guy on that bench with size and skill. Many more nights of 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists will be necessary.

yes, cavs sucks, we covered that…lets move on.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:05 am
I actually watched some of that Cavs game - having Ben Wallace and that Joakim Noah lookalike on the floor at the same time was a painful sight.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:06 am
Mike…it makes me want to put Mike Brown in an Iron Maiden.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:06 am
I’m not going to be overly critical of Bron, but he should’ve driven to the basket on that final shot. He’s pretty much Deebo when he gets to the paint.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Boris is good at exploiting the coverage in pick and rolls. He just needs to be more aggressive–he often passes out of layups like he’s afraid to take the shot.
And what was up with the shitty officiating last night? 4 technicals on the suns? 5 bad foul calls on Shaq? Sticking your face into his elbow is not an offensive foul (though props to Austin Croshere for taking it like a man).
March 14th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Iron Maiden…excellent.
Execute them.
Bogus.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:17 am
I don’t know alot about baseketball, I’m just here for the jokes.
+1 Hef.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Hmmm…where have I seen that image on an NBA re-cap post before?
March 14th, 2008 at 11:24 am
The Hornets can move back to less than a game out of the West lead if they can beat the Lakers tonight at home.
If the Lakers do lose tonight though, the Rockets will be the #1 team in the West this time Monday.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:30 am
It’s slow around here today. Did everyone take the day off? Let’s get it started.
Caron Butler>Lebron
March 14th, 2008 at 11:31 am
THERES NO WAY CARON…oh, almost got me you scallywag.
i dunno about everyone else, but im busy over here. even with dual monitors its hard to stay on top of shit today.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Hef, you’re wrong. Don’t say he is better just because you think it is. This is not a debate.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:34 am
If you want to get this started say something like was said after the Kings vs. Lakers game.
Ooopsss…here we go….
March 14th, 2008 at 11:34 am
I’m at home watching the baby. Been off all week. But it does seem pretty dead right now.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:34 am
i found my second favorite player last night watching a sub par Wizards team beat the Cavs. DeShaun Stevenson may lack talent, but he is a top notch shit talker in my book for that performance he was doing last night. I loved the article/link that you had on there TBL about how DeShaun thinks Lebron is overrated. I wouldnt agree with that statement, but i loved the shit talking he was doing last night.
other than that, boring day for ballin
March 14th, 2008 at 11:35 am
I would love all of DeShawn’s shit talking if he was actually a really good player.
He is a mediocre to decent player so I think he should leave the shit talking to Caron and Gil.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Apparently, Rafer’s the pest PG ever. Just ask him or Chris Paul.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Hey, LeBron… Rafer would have made that shot!
/chuckles
March 14th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Not the way he shot against Atlanta the other night grungedave….
March 14th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Eh my grammar sucks. Alston was 3-18 from the field against the Hawks…He has been good lately, but he sucked it up the other night.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:51 am
god that never gets old.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:52 am
dual monitors ? if we want a flat screen in my office you bring your own in.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Stevenson and Lebron were jawing even before the opening tip last night. As a Cavs fan, I expected Lebron to come out and put it to him early on, but he just seemed tired out there. He is clearly not the same player on a road back-to-back game.
Deshawn should watch who he talks to though. He’s a solid defender and decent shooter. He better be, or he wouldn’t be in the league. But come on, leave the Lebron shittalking to the adults. That’s a league he just ain’t in, and will never be in.
March 14th, 2008 at 11:54 am
he should of drove it to the hoop…like i said before, his jumper is not consistent
but hey, at least he can get to the hoop right
March 14th, 2008 at 11:58 am
@621
I think you need to introduce yourself to your local Rockets blogger :]

What’s the current population of Cleveland? Bout 1/2 million or so, right? How come every resident of Cleveland posts on this board. I might as well move to Ohio and take out my front two teeth. I’ve never talked about the Cavs this much with anyone ever as in the last few months. Is OSU accepting applications right now?
March 14th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Correction: I just checked. Cleveland’s population is about a half mil, but the surrounding area totals about 2.25 mil. My mistake. Only a quarter of the cleveland population posts on this board. I will make a note in my internal computer.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
its around 400,000 but theres a big debate about whether principalities should be conisdered part of the city because the suburban area sprawls. im not a cleveland resident even tho im only 10 mins outside the city.
im sure OSU is accepting applications, but unless you want a 2 hour commute each way, id suggest looking for places in Columbus.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Hef…funny stuff. ohioians are like the plague. once we attach to a host, we conquer.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Yeah, Lebron isn’t much of a shit-talker. He has never put anyone off his game, especially someone shooting FTs at the end of a playoff game.
Sincerely,
Gilbert Arenas
Lebron did suck last night. One of his worst of the season (7 turnover,s dog shit shooting). Also to let a really mediocre play get under you skin is inexcusable. Oh well.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
at least Sasha was hitting the three ball last night. I thought he looked good.
Any word on Lebrons ankle? is it sprained or anything
March 14th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
I don’t mean to pile on, but Ohioans are almost as bad as Chicagoans. I live in PHX where half the population is originally from Chicago. Everyone I know is really proud to be from Chicago but not a single one of them would move back there. None. It makes you wonder, if you’re so goddam proud of the place, why did you move?
This has been Hef’s social commentary minute. Check out my podcast on iTunes.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Hef…the weather.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Being loyal to a sports team does not equal loving the city, IMO.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
true…I cant stand living in Cleveland. 1 more year…1 more year. then its to someplace warm, like Denver.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Not just sports teams, Nick. Every aspect. “You can’t get a pizza like that round here.” “You should see the parks…” “Hookers in Chicago, man, I tell you what…”
[Hef rolls his eyes]
March 14th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
@Hef: I was just talking about myself re: being loyal to sports teams.
That being said…hookers in Clev…WOWzers!!!!
March 14th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
yea, but isnt that true? PHX isnt known for its lush greenery and Deep Dish Pizza.
ill tell you what tho, you cant get the clap like this anyhwere but cleveland.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Top notch, huh? Worth $4000 per “visit?”
March 14th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
I’d like to think a Phoenix hooker can carry her own against a cleveland or chicago hooker. We raise classy ladies here in the PHX.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Other than “sweet weather” what is PHX known for? Serious question.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Golf courses?
Frolf?
March 14th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
golf, meth, southwestern food, high octane basketball…PHX is and awesome city.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Not the way he shot against Atlanta the other night grungedave….
Hence the joke about Rafer being a better shooter than LeBron.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
That would West Virginia to the East and Kentucky to the South. But you’re almost there.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Swimming in March. Cleavage in February at ASU. Day Drinking year round. Bar-B-que at Christmas. Not knowing what a snowplow is for. These are the positives. I will create a long(er) list of negatives later.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
My buddy lived in the southeast corner of ohio and said the three states just sort of blended together there.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
All of those seem to stem from great weather.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Doesn’t everything stem from great weather?
March 14th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
i agree…great weather > lebron.
March 14th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
@ Hef: I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of Chicago people. I went to U of Arizona for a few years and it was full of Chicagoans (hope thats right). They would always say stuff like: “this isn’t real pizza, you can only get real deep dish pizza in the Chi” or “you can only get real Italian beef sandwhiches in Chicago”. All the music they listened to was made by Chicago area artists, they were obsessessed with their city yet chose to go to school in a place that was hundreds of miles from their holy mecca.
March 14th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
I was in Chicago for about nine years and there are some great things, most notably those items listed (food) and the easiest yet still hot non-college tail on earth (the bars two blocks from Wrigley Field). However, the weather does blow in Chicago. The winters are typical winter, the wind off the lake makes fall and spring feel significantly cooler that they should, and at least half of the summer you’re stuck with Florida-level humidity.

Not the way he shot against Atlanta the other night grungedave….
Hence the joke about Rafer being a better shooter than LeBron.
yeah my brain is a little fried from work this week so I’ve been slow on the uptake.
