gotta go kobe here.. better 3 point shooter.. better defender.. long term maybe lebron, but now, no brainer..
March 20th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
And Cornell, it’s nice that you hung on for 5 minutes, but this is going to get out of hand quickly. And it’s been every one of the higher seeds advancing so far.
March 20th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
TBL- Shouldnt Megan Fox be in your culture tournament?
Her taking on Lyla Garrity would have been a good battle
March 20th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Ben…agreed.
March 20th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
I vote neither.
March 20th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Fox and Transformers should have both been there. Drat.
March 20th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Now i noticed that there’s no Roger Federer in this bracket. Shame on you TBL! If winning 3 or 4 majors (reaching the Final in all of them) is not enough for you, what is?
BTW in the bracket it appears “Clent No. 9″
March 20th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Maybe next year do a nomination post
March 20th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
3 rings > zero
March 20th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
This smells like ‘Who’s Now.’
March 20th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Why is the superior player seeded lower?
March 20th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Because he has a rap sheet. Allegedly. [/Jim Rome voice]
March 20th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
It’s hard to believe that Kobe hasn’t won a title in 7 years. seems like forever ago.
March 20th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
March 20th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Kobe won the title in 2002 … isnt that 6 years ago ?? and im taking Kobe in a close one because he’s proven to be the most clutch player in the league while LeBron has some work to do
March 20th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
I don’t understand why Kobe is on this poll when he’s not even the best Laker player
/LeBron James groupie
March 20th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
he’s not the best laker? seriously? come on guys why is this so close for you guys? kobe’s not the better all around player? get outta here
March 20th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Just cuz it’s Kobe’s “turn” to win MVP doesn’t mean he has to win this… Bron Bron for me
March 20th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Frost, sorry man. I wasnt sure how long ago it was exactly, but it still feels like an eternity.
YYSA, although your statement is true, that isn’t Kobe’s fault. That’s the GM’s fault. The Spurs don’t win because of Tim Duncan, it’s because of the supporting cast. same went for the Heat, Pistons and every other team who has won a title. I am so sick and tired of hearing that Kobe cant win without Shaq. Bill Russell couldnt win without Bob Cousy. Jordan couldnt win without Pippen.
March 20th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
I agree Gonzo that it is unfair but I will never forget that Kobe shot 3 shots in the second half of game 7 against the Suns two years ago. Thats quitting on your team
March 20th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
No worries YYSA. sorry to take out my emotion on you. nothing personal. I like the point you just brought up about quitting on your team. That’s some bullshit.
March 20th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
No sweat I hear ya. Hopefully we can get a Suns Vs. Lakers matchup in the semis or WCF.
March 20th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
+1 Unreliable Narrator
Kobe all the way
March 20th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
This smells like ‘Who’s Now.’
You’re right, Reliable Narrator. And that’s exactly why I voted for LeBron. After all, it is explained at the beginning that it is a “culture bracket.
IMO,
Kobe > LeBron (as a player, spotting him many years)
but
LeBron > Kobe (as a pop culture icon)
March 20th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
God > The Rapist
Kobe hasn’t been “clutch” since Shaq left. Interesting.
March 20th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
Nick P. invented another lie. Interesting.
March 20th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Was he clutch with Shaq?
March 20th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Get Kobe’s cock out of your mouth and type out my full name. Thanks.
March 20th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Yes Nick, i’m the one defending my “boy” in every topic that is posted here on TBL with the typical childish “LeBron > Kobe”.
But saying that Kobe’s not clutch since Shaq left is another lie in your book, like so many others (remember my summary of the day?!?). It’s funny because you seem to remember the Game 7 of the series against the Suns in the 2nd year pos-Shaq, but then forget who shot the game winning shot in Game 4 of the same series. Maybe that’s not being clutch. And that’s just one example that proves your blatant lie.
And since it’s clear that you seem disturbed, i will continue with my posts. I enjoy kids getting nervous with a stupid debate.
Remember Nick P. all day! All Day!
March 20th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Interesting…
Interesting…indeed…
March 20th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Give me the guy that doesn’t need the best center in the last 20 years to get out of the first round.
Shaq > LBJ > Kobe
March 20th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
A bunch of dumb motherfuckers read this site apparently.
It’s so obviously Kobe. LeBron is a great player, but Kobe is an artist.
March 20th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Obviously both are amazing… banalities aside, the reason I’ve always admired Kobe more is that I think if I had LeBron’s freakish body/size/speed, I think I’d be pretty dominate too. I think Kobe has done more with less (granted, Kobe was pretty damn athletic in his day…) - but to see Kobe dominate a game with his skillset, is more impressive to at this point.
Also, you can bash Kobe for many things, but not getting out of the first round is not one of them. You’d be saying the EXACT same thing about LeBron if he were in the west, and we maybe taking about a Kobe trip to the finals without SHaq if he were in the east.
March 20th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Also, Kobe is a throwback. He could care less if anyone in the league likes him (or his team for that matter). He’s got that tragic flaw that MJ had, anything short of championships is just not acceptable. I’m not saying LeBron doesn’t want to win, but he’s stated himself what his priorities are, so I have to take him at his word. Kobe’s never needed to hang out with celebrities or be seen at club openings. It’s all basketball (and some adulterous activity mixed in)
March 20th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Hi all,
I’m new to TBL. I’ve been bought up a few times (I love the shout-outs!), but I want to clear some stuff up. Saying Lebron would be a first round guaranteed exit is a bit of an unprovable claim, no? He’s the only guy in the last couple decades to do that with a dog-poopy supporting cast. Right? So maybe think hard about what you say.
Thanks,
Unprovable (some would say illogical) Claim
March 20th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Nick P. - In a conversation as asinine as “is player x better than player y?” I think making assumptions about first round exits is par for the course. If LeBron moves to the last few “1st round exit” Lakers teams I don’t see them faring any different. And put Kobe on the Cavs team of last year the same would be true. CursedCleveland is right on the money. Kobe is all basketball. He’s transcendent. Lebron is a great player with a hell of a marketing machine behind him. His jumper is also miles inferior to Kobe’s, and at this stage I don’t see that getting much better. He’s a dude who will be as good as his physique will take him. Granted that’ll take him pretty far. And then there’s the defense… oh you who voted LeBron. How mislead you are.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Hey, nice to meet you. No shit his jumper is inferior. Guess what? Kobe’s jumper is inferior to Steve Kerr-Brent Barry-Steve Novak et. al. The funny thing is Kobe’s everything else is better than those guys, much like Lebron’s everything else is better than Kobe’s. Fun stuff, that basketball; made up of more than just shooting long jumpers and fade-away corkscrews.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
It’s funny that people like to say Kobe has the edge because he’s a better defender and long-range shooter but completely ignore that LeBron is a better passer and rebounder. It’s real close, but if you’ve watched the last few times they have played one-on-one, I would have to say LeBron has the slight edge. He’s got the better of Kobe with a lesser supporting cast.

Hi all,
I’m an hardcore commenter of this board, and everyday i try to change everyone’s mind and opinions about some dude on LA and the God in person Mr.LeBron James. Even when the video with the “Prince” and Kobe Song, i never lose my opportunity to try to convert some souls to the God Himself and say my “Amen” that is “LBJ > Kobe”. Fanatic me? No way…
Sometimes i use lies as an argument, sometimes i use stats, sometimes i forget stats, sometimes i say that the supporting cast of LeBron James is worse than Kobe’s despite the fact that Kobe in the years that didn’t pass the 1st round played with Kwame, Odom, Walton and Smush and LBJ played with Zy, Gooden, Sasha and Snow. Nevermind that the career stats of Gooden and Odom are pretty similar (Gooden is slightly better in everything else but assists), i use to say that LBJ never played with an All-Star but when anyone says that Zy was an All-Star 2 times (1 when LBJ was playing) i change the subject so it seems that i didn’t try to manufacture any fact so i can prove my point. Didn’t Smush Parker and Kwame Brown go to 5 All-Stars already? Oh, nevermind, if not i’m changing subjects.
I use stats as my only fact. Sometimes i use lies, sometimes i say that people can’t use intangibles to compare Kobe with LBJ, but when i want to compare Willie Mays and Hank Aaron i can use intangibles to compare. I can use what i want to prove my point.
Kobe’s not being clutch since Shaq left the Lakers. When some dude try to prove me wrong i say to him to take out Kobe’s “you know what” from his mouth. When he uses multiples examples of my asinine statement, one in particular when my “boy” misses in the clutch and “The Rapist” don’t, i once again change the subject. I treat myself as Royal We so i don’t have time to lose with my brilliant and always true statements.
Nevermind that the same guy voted for LeBron despite being a Laker fan that supports Chris Paul for MVP, but i’m limited to understand that people can prefer one player over another and still don’t try to make the other look like Rick Brunson. Of course, when my mind is so consumed by Kobe’s i can only try to change other people minds. And boy, i get so mad when someone tries to go against my opinions, nobody can say anything bad about the God, and if they do i will call my buddy to try to write a monologue with me.
Maybe next time i will try to think before i write something. Ha Ha! Who i’m a kidding? LBJ Forever and ever is the God from all Universe…and this is not a debate!
Thanks,
Hardcore Commenter

only reason why Lebron wins this poll is because of all the people from Ohio
March 21st, 2008 at 7:48 am
i voted for kobe. lebron in 1-2 years, definitely, but right now, kobe.
Nick and CH4OS…you two need to quit.
March 21st, 2008 at 7:48 am
wow huh spencer, i saw that too
March 21st, 2008 at 7:55 am
yea dude, ive been watching kobe the last few weeks, and i give him the nod because he’s so skilled. i like LBJ still, dont get me wrong, but he’s more of a overpower and dominate rather than possessing the little things that kobe has. kobe just has more ways to get it done, but it’s close.
LBJ has gotten a lot better tho as this season has gone on. just in time for the playoffs.
plus, 81 points? what the fuck was that?
March 21st, 2008 at 8:28 am
yeah spencer, nick and that guy arent too fond of each other huh.
i just love the fact that D Howard is a #2 seed in this bracket
bout time TBl showed some love to him. He will win the DeShaun Stevenson beard bracket
March 22nd, 2008 at 7:56 pm
I love LeBron. Don’t get me wrong. These comparisons are like asking who was better MJ or Magic? The context is pretty important.
But Lebron’s everything else? Except for defense and shooting, I guess. Among other things. Kobe at this point is best closer in the game. If you need a guy to hit the last shot in the game I’ll take the guy who DOESN’T chew his fingernails constantly. Kobe has a clearer understanding of the game. I think you pretty much have to give him the edge in all matters mental and psychological. Oh, and the defense and the shooting. Those things are pretty important in game of basketball. It looks like you do need corrective lenses after all Mr. Papageorgio.
