2008 Culture Tournament March 20th. 2008, 9:48am
Thanks to efforts of technology wizard Derrick Eckardt, you’re actually going to be able to vote this year in our 2008 Culture Bracket! (To get an idea as to the evolution of this site, feel free to laugh at last year’s bracket.) The idea for this tournament was hatched in 2006 when we read a pretty neat version of this in the New York Times. It was heavy on the politics, yet still funny.
Even if some of these matchups make absolutely no sense (for instance, No. 5 David Tyree’s Catch vs. No. 12 Kelvin Sampson’s cell phone), have fun voting on them. We’ll keep voting open until the end of the day, and try to update the bracket accordingly. No idea how many we’ll do a day, but the winner will be completely decided by you. Let’s see if we can do this right:

Two things:
(A) It’s always interesting to see where first round match-ups are seeded because in an effort to get a fun match-up, two similar items are seeded amazingly disparately. Auriemma (5) / Summitt (12). The Office (4) / 30 Rock (13). Dan Patrick (4) / Rick Reilly (13).
(B) The fun first round match-ups tend to make for nonsensical second round match-ups, which I guess is part of the fun.
All of that said, you have a number one seed on there twice. Tiger vs. God. He can’t play himself in the title game.
