2008 Culture Bracket: Love, Hate and Opposites
2008 Culture Tournament March 25th. 2008, 10:31am
The first round of the 2008 Culture Bracket comes to a close today, and here are the early matchups: The diminishing US Dollar (the Memphis of No. 1 seeds) vs. the mysteriously vanishing bees; the 8-9 game between the only two Sportscenter anchors to mention our blog on air, Josh Elliott and Scott Van Pelt; the heated matchup between Geno and Pat, and what we anticipate to be the closest matchup in the region, The Wire against Stuff White People Like. As P Diddy said, Vote or Die.

If the bees continue to vanish the overall #1 seed next year will be “Where is all the tasty food?”

Didn’t Josh Elliott once write for SI.com? Did he totally give up on writing?

I was about to come on and complain that Stuff White People Like got a tough seed, but right now it’s beating the wire. I will never understand the group of people on this board.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:42 am
interestingly enough, The Wire is stuff white people like, thus game to stuff white people like.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:45 am
forgive my ignorance here, but is Josh Elliot one of those guys that got the job because of that game show?
March 25th, 2008 at 10:47 am
So Sponge, if you vote for “stuff,” then isn’t it like you are voting for the Wire anyway? I think “stuff” has a chance to be a mid-major that makes it to the dance.

If the dollar continues to weaken, next year’s #1 can be “Why can’t I afford to buy food, tasty or not?”
March 25th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Don’t blame me - I voted for The Wire.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:53 am
xv43…then you better buy “subsistence farming for dummies” while you still can.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:54 am
van pelt always gets my vote for his awesome voicemail
March 25th, 2008 at 10:57 am
It shouldn’t matter which one Josh Elliot is (he’s not the contest winner), because Van Pelt is the best anchor they have. On the next tier are John Anderson and Neil Everett. After that it’s all ‘meh’ or worse.

Can’t you both like the Wire and think its hilarious that so many white people love it at the same time? Seems unfair, but then again so is March.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:59 am
I am white, and I love me some Wire , and I believe Pat Summitt would whup Geno’s ass. Who is gonna hit a girl?
March 25th, 2008 at 10:59 am
i dont mind bob ley on sundays, he’s pretty solid too.
March 25th, 2008 at 11:06 am
I believe Geno would slap the shit out of Pat Summitt if given the chance
March 25th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Pat Summitt would put a beatdown on Geno in a Tennessee minute. She cruise by, ridin’ in an El Camino with a double barreled shotgun hangin’ out the window, with a Marlboro danglin’ from her lips. One shot, down goes Geno.

yes i agree die-eagles-die, plus the rest of the things on that site are great, Mos Def for instance, all of my friends who hate rap LOVE Mos Def, very very odd.
March 25th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Stuff white people like is totally gonna pull the upset
March 25th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Ok, whoever DIDN’T vote for The Wire, slap yourself three times and never take Omar’s name in vain.
March 25th, 2008 at 11:41 am
had to go for Pat over Geno based on cheesesteak preferences, and am shocked the wire was losing
March 25th, 2008 at 11:44 am
I want the Wire to lose…not that the show is not good..I am just tired with it being shoved down my throat…If I could spend a week not hearing the virtues of the Wire or Lost..I would be happy.
March 25th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Geno WOULD hit a woman, that’s why I voted for Pat Summit
March 25th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
I don’t have HBO, so I’ve never seen The Wire; Pat Summit can kick Auriema’s ass blindfolded; Van Pelt is the only thing good about ESPN/ESPN Radio these days; and who gives a shit about bees?

What a battle in the last match, TBL better keep it open till a clear winner (or when Stuff White… takes the lead) emerges
March 25th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
A titanic battle, indeed. So glad the wire rallied. Voting is open overnight.
March 25th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
A deadlock at 231! If we must go to overtime, so be it!
March 25th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Wire 235
TWPL 232

THe recent fed rate cut has the dollar recovering quickly.

I do love your optimism, Matt.
Markets edged up a bit today. And if you believe NAR, the bottom of the real estate market has already been reached!
Dead cat bounce.
