2008 Culture Bracket: Boston Subregion
2008 Culture Tournament March 25th. 2008, 1:06pm
Time to wrap up the first round. And how better to do it than to work in some Boston matchups on the day the Red Sox christened opening day with a victory over the A’s in Japan? We’re curious to see how Bill Simmons does this year. Will nascent blogger Jozy Altidore be able to take down dunk champ Dwight Howard? Not that she needed any introduction, but Clay Buchholz’s Penthouse Pet is clearly the Davidson of this region. And in the event you’re not aware of Ovechkin’s Russian Internet Love - thar she blows.
And in case you missed this morning’s other matchups.
Who wins: 6 The Cloverfield Monster or 11 Clay Buchholz’s Penthouse Pet?
- 11 Clay Buchholz’s Penthouse Pet (79%, 324 Votes)
- 6 Cloverfield Monster (21%, 88 Votes)
Total Voters: 412
Who wins: 3 Boston Celtics or 14 Ovechkin’s Russian he met on the Net?
- 14 Ovechkin’s Girl (51%, 214 Votes)

Cloverfield Monster starts the game 0 for 10 shooting. Not looking good.

I can’t even bring myself to vote in the Cook vs. Simmons matchup. That one makes me *YAWN*. Not a fan of either.
And if you don’t vote for the Celtics, irish will be looking for you momentarily.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I’m sorry, if you don’t vote for HOWARD irish will be looking for you…
March 25th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Yeah, Irish, the unofficial Orlando Magic mascot (maybe that’s what I will call him from now one — good work Glass Yard Dog) will come to your house and administer a beatdown. Is Irish the Magic’s assistant traveling secretary?
March 25th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
I voted for Howard by the way…
March 25th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
you should over some lousy soccer player
March 25th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
12 votes for this soccer player what the fuck
March 25th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Irish, I thought Jozy was a hot chick. my bad.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Irish, have you seen the Dwight Howard NBA Where Amazing happens commercial?
March 25th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
no, but whats the joke
March 25th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Wouldnt it make more sense to put Buckholz’s girl against Ovies?
March 25th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
If Dane Cook was running unopposed, I still wouldn’t vote for him. I’ve heard eulogies that were funnier than his act.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
That line was actually funnier than anything in Dane Cook’s act.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Dane Cook is fuckin hilarious.
/ducks head.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
I voted for Simmons because of my hatred for Dane Cook.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
What’s the deal with police cars!?!?!? Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee wooooooooooooooooooooooooooo weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
March 25th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
If it weren’t for Jessica Alba and the numerous boob shots in Good Luck Chuck I would have died before it was over.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
haha no joke, it’s a tight commerical about your boy, just asking.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Dane Cook is Kenny Banya.
What’s the deal with Ovaltine!?!
March 25th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Cloverfield Monster is gonna be pissed!
My vote for Simmons was more opposing Dane Cook than it was in favor of Bill Simmons.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
The cup is round. the jar is round. they should call it ROUND-TINE.
IT’S GOLD, JERRY

The only thing worse than Dane Cook’s allegiance to all things Boston is that Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore inexplicibly got to run around the field with the Red Sox after they won the World Series in ‘04. And the only thing worse than that was the movie Fever Pitch, which was only worse than Good Luck Chuck because of Jessica Alba.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Banya’s voice is the voice of a new generation. My generation.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
This one is easy. Women > anything > fetid exrement in the hot summer sun in Alabama > Dane Cook.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
almost 35 people voting for a soccer player. Cmon people get your head out of your ass
March 25th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
I GIVE you an Armani suit and you won’t even buy me a meal?
March 25th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Simmons because he has actaully done some good work, Howard because no one wants a beat down from Irish.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
March 25th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Kenny Banya is great
March 25th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Irish - Hakeem Olajuwon was a soccer player, same with Steve Nash.
Hakeem > Nash > Howard
March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
@walfredo- Howard owns Kendrick Perkins and KG. The Magic have owned the Celtics this season. Boston doesnt look that tough now do they
March 25th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Wow dude serious hositlity. Actually Boston really has nothing left to prove in the regular season. They swept the Texas triangle and now they have to play out the season, clinch home court throughout, and get some rest. If the Magic are lucky enough to reach the East Finals, I’d be happy with the match-up. Of course Howard will put up big numbers, but Celts win in 6 at the most.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
there was no hostility at all. I just think Orlando is the better team and they have beat the Celtics 2 out of three with all games with your three main guys.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
You are right. Orlando, like the Wizards, have taken 2 of 3 from the Celtics. 4 of 7 in the playoffs is an entirely different story. Especially with the veterans on the C’s versus minimal veteran experience from Orlando.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Its not like Garnett and Allen have advanced that far in the playoffs. Cassell is a winner, i know that, but he is old and slow.
Playoffs are a diff story i will give you that. Like i said with you before, i will take the matchups with Boston. You guys will have to triple Howard and we will drain threes on you all day
March 25th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Winner > Cassell
He was the backup point guard on 2 NBA Jordan-less championship teams, a winner, eh.. i bet his career W/L record is .500 or worse
March 25th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Wait what is the question with Simmons and Cook? Is it who is “better,” or who sucks more?
March 25th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Who are the 45 other twats (minus Gonzo of course) who voted for Dane Cook?
March 25th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
@die_eagles - I took it to mean who sucks less of the two.
