Ballin’: The Rockets, In Trouble?
NBA April 2nd. 2008, 9:43am
Sacramento 99, Houston 98: It’s not unheard of, but can you imagine what the reaction would be if the Rockets missed the playoffs? Five of their final eight are on the road, plus the Suns visit Clutch City. Even if Dirk is back this week, the Mavs have the toughest road, having to face five “good” (read: in the playoff hunt) teams. So that would mean being overtaken by the Warriors or Nuggets.
Denver 126, Phoenix 120: You know we love the Suns now, and yes, it’s mostly because of Shaq. But they’re going to squash any hopes of a playoff run if they give up 70 points in a half in the postseason, like they did last night. Undrafted veteran point guard Anthony Carter had eight points, 10 assists, and six steals for the Nuggets, who now are half a game up on the Warriors for the 8th spot in the West.
New Orleans 98, Orlando 97: Time is winding down, you’re trailing by one, and the last shot is taken by … Keyon Dooling? Really? Superman had 17-15.
San Antonio 116, Golden State 92: No time for the Warriors to sweat this ass-whoppin‘. They forgot how to run an offensive mid-way through the second quarter and never recovered, so let’s push past this. Massive road game tonight in Dallas.
Philadelphia 108, New Jersey 97: The Nets would be better served missing the playoffs. This team is in dire need of an offensive force inside, and although Nenad Krstic has shown flashes (two years ago, and early last year, before the injury), he’s a softie, and not a presence. What about Hasheem “Upside” Thabeet, who might pair nicely with another UConn grad, Josh Boone (or pothead Sean Williams), up front, since you’ve already got enough offense from VC and RJ? If Marcus Williams got some burn, you could have three Huskies on the floor at once!

What’s with the suns picking up bullshit technicals. Raja (their best perimeter defender) got booted in the third quarter for laughing at a referee. Amare has picked up six in the last four weeks. In fact, the team as a whole has picked up 26 techs in the 23 games since Shaq joined the team. A little too loose with the whistle it seems.

what a great game last night. TBL, Rashard had the ball at the end but he had to give it up.
Peja was huge for the Hornets with 6 points in the final 1 min. That included a big three to put them up.
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:51 am
The Raja ejection was ridiculous.
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:51 am
i wish i was at home with my precious league pass last night…fack.
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:55 am
@ spencer – you need a slingbox
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:56 am
hey spencer out of curiosity how do u rank the cleveland teams in terms of favorites?
i probably go browns indians and cavs tribe and cavs close though
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:56 am
the referees in the Kings/Rockets game? Fucking awful. On both sides.
Anyway, Rockets schedule:
@ Portland
@ Seattle (W!)
@ Clippers (W!)
v. Seattle (W!)
v. Phoenix
@ Denver
@ Utah
v. Clippers (W!)
We should beat everyone except Phoenix and maybe Utah. The Rockets are going to the playoffs. I can’t believe this is even being discussed.

yawn- celtics win again
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:02 am
Next up for Orlando: @ Cleveland
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:03 am
mmonast…same way. i think of it like this: which team’s winning of a championship would cause the most physical damage to the city.
browns – half the city would be destroyed and burning within 24 hours
tribe and cavs – there would be multiple riots with some burning
i rank the cavs SLIGHTLY ahead of the tribe just because im more of an NBA fan and love going to the Q.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:04 am
That block by Dooling was pretty sick though.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:04 am
irish…my prediction? PAIN.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:07 am
Thats my biggest question about Orlando going into the playoffs, who closes out games. I would not want to face Philly in the first round. They aren’t great, but they are good enough to steal a series from a Det/Bos that overlooks them.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:07 am
Irish, the Magic have off until Saturday? At least the Cavs have an excuse if they lose, playing 3rd game in 4 nights.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:08 am
coop i understand what you’re saying, but i don’t think the celtics or pistons will lose to philly
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:08 am
philly is a bad matchup for boston. andre miller would abuse rondo and PP would be a nonfactor.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:09 am
boston would still win tho…itchy finger.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:09 am
am i saying we are going to win or anything?
i just stated our next game was Sat
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:10 am
I was just asking a question and laying down the groundwork for all the Cavs fans on here. I think it is a national TV game, am I correct in this?
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:13 am
bigtuna…ive pretty much lost all faith with the cavs…i assumed theyd be able to at least put SOMETHING together by now, but they havent.
i know there are a few mike brown supporters on here, but the guy cant coach worth a shit. he knows his x’s and o’s, but in the NBA, that shit is damn near irrelevant. he cant reach his players at all, and nobody, especially LBJ, has any respect for the guy. get him the fuck out of here.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:16 am
isiah thomas may be looking for a job soon, the cavs should go after him
i’m shuddering to think how he would ruin the cavs
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:17 am
Neo…don’t even start with that shit, we’ve been through enough.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:18 am
spencer – I agree 100%, with only 8 or so games left in the regular season, I have no confidence in them. Nobody besides Lebron and Z are consistent. Sasha is horrible, Boobie is still hurting and won’t be well the rest of the season, I shoot better than Wally, West is unreliable, AV is trying to do way too much on offense. Brown has done nothing at all to get these guys to work together on offense and the defense has gotten worse since the trade. At least last year was fun.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:19 am
@spence: at least he’d get some big contracts on the team. The talent wouldn’t necessarily increase, but your spending would.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:20 am
sorry spencer that was a low blow. i was just kidding around.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:21 am
Has the “everybody mail it in” portion of the season started yet? I am pretty sure the Pistons only started Prince out of the original five starters last night. The last three games before All Star break in the MLB and the last two weeks of the NBA season are no time to go see a game.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:24 am
The Hornets are now 4-1 on a key six-game road swing, with wins in Indiana, Cleveland, Toronto, and Orlando. The only loss was in Boston, and their next two are at Miami and at home vs. the Knicks. I’ll be damned. They might pull off at worst a home court advantage in the first round after all!
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:24 am
actually, if LBJ leaves, which im expecting him to, isiah would be a breath of fresh air…make the team interesting. nothing is mroe fun than watching 5 SF/SG on the court at once each taking 3’s 4 seconds into the shot clock.
bigtuna…yea, that’s the thing. he doesnt get his players into positions that use their talents well. AND YOUVE HAD HIM 3 YEARS NOW…TEACH FUCKING LEBRON JAMES HOW TO FUCKING MOVE WITHOUT THE GOD DAMNED BALL. what good is a PG if LBJ is just going to stand there and come to the ball anyways? come on now. im seriously getting fed up with his incompetent bullshit.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:28 am
@jay- we handed you that win last night. If you watched that game, then you would have to agree with that
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:29 am
spencer i think coach brown is a great defensive coach but has shown he is completely incapable of running an offense and putting a good offensive plan together
this last offseason he should have hired a young offensive minded only coach and say u get the offense i get the d and overall team decisions
good shooters come to cleveland and then die (looking right at wally)
and spencer i would put going to the jake over going to the gund IMO
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:30 am
and i believe lebron will resign 1 more time then no matter what happens he is gone after that
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:33 am
I didn’t see it, but I “watched” it online (real-time stats). I still can’t believe though that CP3
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:33 am
mmonast…AND HE’S POSTING UP WALLY!?!?!?! what is that all about?
the jake is great, i lvoe it and probably go to 20ish games per year, but i just like watching NBA basketball in person much more. plus, if have 4 hours to spend outside during the summer, id rather spend it golfing and watch the DVR of the tribe game.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:33 am
(hit the return key early) missed the 2 free throws and gave you another chance
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:34 am
same with Peja right before that. Trust me, we should of won that
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:38 am
Wasn’t the plan for the Cavs to hire an ‘offensive coordinator’ this past offseason? What happened to that/who shot it down?
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:38 am
i really think mike brown when it comes to an offense is like a virgin staring down his first gash….
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:39 am
tuna i dont know if anything came out as to why it didnt happen but my guess is MB didnt want someone undermining his authority of the team
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:41 am
since when does he have any authority? it’s LBJ’s team, mike brown is a puppet.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:43 am
maybe i should have said “perceived” authority?
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:45 am
even that’s a stretch.
i hate to even mention the guy’s name, but larry brown would be an awesome coach for this team.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:46 am
The magic were bombing from 3 point range. Superman, Hedo and Rashard no Dooling gets the final shot what the fuck?
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:54 am
I don’t know if Larry Brown would be a good fit for LeBron. LeBron doesn’t do “off the ball.” Not in his vernacular. (Apparently either is the word “matrimony.”)
April 2nd, 2008 at 11:01 am
IMO, i would think Larry Brown would be a great fit for Atlanta. i believe that team has all the key pieces, especially the way Al horford has turned out this year. He will most likely win the ROY.
i still think Larry Brown is a great coach
April 2nd, 2008 at 11:03 am
cursed plus 10
Is Dirk on HGH or something he’s coming back from what seemed to be a season ending injury really quick. If so why aren’t the Lakers using it for Bynum, Gasol, Ariza, Fisher, Kobe and Mihm
April 2nd, 2008 at 11:07 am
Dirk is on some premium German shit that hasn’t even found it’s way to LA.
April 2nd, 2008 at 11:10 am
Wow jb49ers, the Lakers have had some injuries haven’t they. Seems like only a top-notch MVP cadidate could keep a team like that in a superior conference from missing playoffs altogether.
April 2nd, 2008 at 12:13 pm
I agree, Cursed, and Lamar should definitely get some consideration. He’s even managed to keep that hot-head Kobe from killing too many games with his T’s (so far, anyway).
April 2nd, 2008 at 1:38 pm
just something to keep in mind going forward.. le batard said during the rockets win streak, on his radio show, that he didn’t think they would make playoffs.. and this was during the streak.. pretty ballsy..
