Final Four Fun: Joey Dorsey vs. Kevin Love
College Basketball April 2nd. 2008, 5:27pm
Who you got? The Memphis senior, whose body looks as if it were chiseled from granite, or the stout UCLA freshman with the Beach Boys lineage and annoying chin strap? [Before you make a decision, remember to vote in the Culture Tournament. It's fun!]
Kevin Love hasn’t really been challenged this March. His numbers are insane because the opposing frontlines have been awful (don’t use Joseph Jones and DeAndre Jordan; Jones is a shell of what he was two years ago, when he should have made the leap to the League and Jordan is a freshman who only played 15 minutes). But then how to explain his 15-7 and 17-10 against the Lopez twins? Michigan State’s bigs, while decent, never get pushed around – Love had 21-11. Maryland’s frontline held its own against UNC, and yet Love went for 18-16. Oh, and you’re probably wondering about how he fared against Washington’s State’s trees – 27-15 and 16-9.
So Dorsey – the two-time C-USA defensive player of the year has zero chance of containing him, right? Guess UCLA is going to roll. [Lengthy pause.] We’re still taking Memphis.

i like memphis too. love will get his, but UCLA’s guards are going to have a helluva time with Memphis’ size on the perimeter.
i love how a week ago i kept saying how much i hated college bball, yet here we are, and i cant get enough of it. i guess im one of those March only fans (except when it comes to OSU hoops…which was depressing this year. NIT BABY!!!).

While I find the quasi-homoerotic description of Dorsey amusing, Love is going to make him his bitch. A lot like the other UCLA match-ups to this point in the tournament, the guard play will be close to a wash and Love will put UCLA over the top, 77-71.

Oden’s still wearing that stupid thing on his wrist, isn’t he?

I’ve got Dorsey…as long as he doesn’t call himself Goliath and refer to love as David.

Yeah, I’ll take Memphis.
Can’t take Love’s numbers against the Lopez twins with much more than a grain of salt. Robin didn’t do shit against Texas. Brook was impressive, just impressive enough to show that Stanford was a one-man team.

Have you ever watched Love run up and down the court? It kind of looks like he has to take a shit all the time.
I think Love will have a decent game, but if Memphis plays anything like they did against Texas & MSU they cannot be beat. Rose will have another big game against smaller guards and CDR will find ways to score as usual.

Ben, is that the second time you’ve used the term “homoerotic” today?
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Hey, is that a picture of the least dominating “most dominating” college player ever: Greg Oden?

All year I (along with a lot of other people) didn’t want to give Memphis props because of the conference they played in. It looks like they’re out to prove everybody wrong about them.

Joey Dorsey reminds me of Karl Malone, and Kevin Love reminds me of Cherokee Parks, so I’m taking Dorsey. After all, we all know he’ll be the better pro too.
(and the horse is officially dead)

Dorsey will own Love. I have said it once and i will say it again, Love is not athletic enough to take it to the next level. He may be decent in college. He may even be a great college player. He is a freshman and looks to be made of play doh. I will take Dorsey in that match-up anyday.
PS. FREE MLB PACKAGE TO YOU AND YOURS UNTIL APRIL 6th. HAVE FUN!!!

I don’t care what TBL says, I don’t find either of them attractive.

Bullshit. I remember all the haters in Oregon saying he wasn’t going to be able to be a primetime college player coming out of HS and a Pac10 POY and a 1st Team AA honors later he’s still making people sound stupid just because his game isn’t above the rim.

I would give you a retort Moleman, but you guys kicked our ass tonight. Congrats on the division. We are on our last legs.
April 2nd, 2008 at 11:57 pm
it was a great game honestly.
pray the rangers and habs lose tomorrow so that jersey and us are locked in at four and one respectively. i could see jersey resting guys against you all, but i definitely think if the top seed is clinched HCMT will sit sid and hossa on sunday

I don’t see NJ resting anyone against us, not even Brodeur. We are in a tough spot. I will probably repeat this tomorrow, but we are one point up on the Caps an 1 point below the Canes. if the Caps beat the Canes for the divison, the Canes will probably beat us for the last spot. I’m skurrrrred.

Double bullshit. Love is 6′10″, strong as an ox, has considerable basketball skill, and can shoot from 19 feet out. Sound like a servicable NBA PF to you? Sure as hell does to me.
Seems like every good college player is evaluated by fans as a franchise player/all-star in the NBA. Nobody is saying Love will dominate in the NBA. But saying he won’t succeed in the NBA just cause he isn’t very fast or doesn’t dunk on guys is ridiculous.
And before someone names an unathletic, white, high draft pick NBA bust like Big Country Bryant Reeves, allow me to name some pretty athletic big guys who didn’t fare any better: Kwame Brown, Stromile Swift etc…
Obviously being athletic is better than not being athletic and it helps a ton, but predicting a player’s chance of success at the next level solely on that basis (especially when said player has proven more than capable as a basketball player) is silly. Something tells me Love will be a decent/good supporting NBA big man.
April 3rd, 2008 at 7:42 am
Have to agree with Goose. I really like Love as an ideal 4, complementing a good big man. Don’t think he’s a stand-alone beast inside, like Dwight Howard or anything, but i think he can be a solid 12-10 guy, contributing defense and passing.
April 3rd, 2008 at 8:32 am
If you think Dorsey is going to dominate Love, you don’t know anything about either of these players and are simply judging the books by their respective covers. I still get the love affair with Dorsey. I guess if anyone has a impressive physique and puts up pedestrian numbers they will be held in high regard. On the other hand, Love is a freshman and completely dominated both the very talented Pac-10 and the entire NCAA tourney thus far. Give me a break.

TBL saying something good about Dwight Howard… im shocked. A stand alone beast, i like that.
Memphis all the way. they are out to prove something right now. With the added experience of playing in the Alamo dome last year(elite 8), they should come out blazing.
Love is going to own Dorsey. I like Memphis and all, but if we are choosing between the two, its Kevin Love. He is a double double machine and i like that out of big men. This kid is the greatest outlet passer since Wes Unseld.
