CP3, Your NBA MVP in More Ways Than One
NBA April 7th. 2008, 3:14pm
No clue if this photo is new or a couple years old or even from Chris Paul’s days at Wake Forest. But from the look of his watch, it’s probably post-college. Our NBA MVP ballot (why today? Because there’s 10 days left in the season, that’s why):
1. Chris Paul, Hornets - Averaging a staggering 21 ppg and 11.5 assists (quick: Last PG to average more than 20-10?), plus leads the league in steals.
2. Kevin Garnett, Celtics – Numbers are actually down a bit this year, but the Celtics have the best record in the NBA, and he’s the primary reason.
3. Kobe Bryant, Lakers – Cry and whine, bitch and moan, but the emergence of Bynum and the trade for Gasol are why LA’s dominating.

No LeGlobal Icon? Nike will have your head.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Magic?
April 7th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
ugh…i know these are your opinions TBL, but KG? celts sure looked good without him.
skip bayless is right about one thing…there has never been a more invisible ’superstar’ than KG. sure his shit has meant a lot, but so has ray allen and PP has been outstanding. rondo has really improved, and when you watch a celts game, you don’t even notice KG half the time.
crazy to believe there’s only 10 days left in the season…
April 7th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Magic in 1990?
April 7th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
No Dwight Howard? fucking absolute bullshit
at least Hedo will win MIP, even though he thinks its an insult being in the league over 8 years and receiving that
April 7th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
im thinkin stefon marbury rather recently…am i batshit crazy?
April 7th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
If New Orleans finishes 1st in the West then CP3 should be nearly unanimous. You can argue all you want about him having DWest on his team but CP3 makes Dwest like Nash/Kidd made Marion. Maybe not exactly like that, but close.
I’d have to put Howard over KG, too.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Hasn’t Orlando basically said that Hedo is the team MVP? His #’s went up so much it’s staggering
April 7th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
yes i am, but i was close.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Well there aren’t any clear winners, lets just give it to Nash again.
/still bitter
But I pretty much agree with that list. I want to give KG more credit, but spence makes some good points. As much as I know it’s not about career stats, Kobe needs to win at least one, I mean the guy is one of the 3 best scorers ever and he has 0 MVP’s.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
I like it. Makes sense to me. Although I’m a little miffed that Ricky Davis isn’t on that list.
I don’t think Howard is in the conversation yet. He is too inconsistent. Maybe next year. Turkoglu has too much to do with their success.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
I really hope that’s a dorm room. Look at the size of the TV those guys are playing Madden on. That might be 13″ (that’s what she said).
April 7th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
TBl- if teams didnt have to double/triple Dwight, would he be getting those types of #’s? we both know the answer to that
April 7th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
a little miffed? please, im downright INFURIATED.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
@Sean Jean- how is he too inconsistent? you probably saw the televised game on SAt to say that type of bs
April 7th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
That picture has to be in Toronto. Labatt hockey Jersey in the background, girl drinking Labatt and cute girl equals Canada.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Irish: I’ve seen a handful of their games. Granted, I don’t watch them as much as you do, but I’d say 50% of those games he was very good, the other 50% he was pretty average or nonexistent. I think he is a freak of nature and is the sky is the limit for him, but this year he isn’t a dominate player all of the time. He is nowhere near the player CP3, Kobe, Lebron, etc. are at this point. I know this has been argued ad nauseum on here, but I think it’s pretty cut and dry. In the coming years though, I say look out. He looks like he could be Shaq 2.0.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
If Howard does become Shaq 2.0 I hope it’s minus the douchebag part.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
cbh: Amen to that. He seems like a less arrogant dude than Shaq too. Seems like a good guy. Who knows.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
… and all the cheeseburgers.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Re: 20/10…A lot of guys have been close (18 points and 10 assists, 21 points and 8 assists, etc.), but the last guy to do it…Tim Hardaway in 1992-1993, with 21.5 points and 10.6 assists.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
so will shaq 2.0 release Kazaam 2.0?
April 7th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
D.Howard just needs to keep improving his game and soon he will be unstoppable. Right now he is just physically dominant. Reminds me of Amare presurgery.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Good guess Ben. coughcheatercough
April 7th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Howard Fu?
April 7th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Wasn’t Tim Hardaway the last 20/10 guy? Or Kevin Johnson? Let me check…
KJ did it two years in a row and almost did it two other times. 1989-1991.
Hardaway did it two years in a row. Last time was 1992-93.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Ben beat me to it. There might be others, but I checked those two because I knew they were money. My boy KJ doesn’t get enough historical respect for how good he was.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
@Gonzo: I guessed exceptionally well, right down to the fractions on the points and assists. I referenced the exact numbers so that people would figure out that I was most definitely looking it up. My guess would’ve been someone from the late 80s/early 90s (Magic, Isiah, or maybe even Kevin Johnson).
April 7th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Don’t forget STEEL spencer. That being said, nothing beats the rapping genie. With a premise like that, you can’t lose.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
KJ was my boy. He was my first favorite player. I remember having a Sports Illustrated for Kids with him on the cover. He was a beast.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Tim Hardaway thinks that stat is gay
April 7th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
CP3 looks young in that picture. And the girl isn’t that amazing. Are the girls uglier in the rest of the country so much so that I’m not impressed with some of the “talent” that gets posted around here?
April 7th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Hef- Totally agree KJ was the best Suns point guard ever. Not even Nash can wrangle that away.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
@Hef: Well, there we go. Keivn Johnson was the shit. As great as 21/11 is for Paul, he’ll have to average it over four years to match Kevin Johnson (’88-’89 through ‘91-’92).
April 7th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Hef, you must be distracted by the pink birthday hat. Although her head does seem to be too big for her body.
“That bird flew right into your head. Like he couldn’t avoid it.”
April 7th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
listen, if i saw a girl similar to her in a bar, id definitely ask her if i could buy her a fish sandwich.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
will not ever forget KJs dunk against Olajuwon. WOW!
April 7th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
@Gonzo: c’mon, she’s got Tori Spelling boobs. Her cleavage looks…odd.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
in fact, there it is
April 7th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
so they were expensive and you can store your contacts overnight in them?
April 7th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
wait, i messed that up
April 7th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
KJ did 20 and 10 3 times. Hardaway twice. Isaiah four times including a 21 and 14!!! Magic 3 times. Michael Adams posted a 26.5 and 10.5 in 90-91.
It seemed to have happened all the time, but it’s definitely been a while.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
crap i suck
April 7th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
I’m curious if her breast have ever met they’re so far apart.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
spence, that’s funny.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
i bet she has canadian bacon nipples.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
in all seriousness tho, im going to canada this summer to visit a buddy of mine in toronto, and i hope i can bag some talent like that. hell, if i have enough molson in me, ill see double and there will be a boob in the middle to make sure Hef’s synergy is achieved.
canadian chicks are prolly hairy as hell tho. i better pack some floss.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
I’d say she’s slightly above average. Pretty enough face. Nice tan. Cleavage is always a plus. The beer adds a point.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
You heard here first folks, I like three-breasted women. By the way, I’m pretty sure the word is symmetry, not synergy.
/grammar nazi
April 7th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Hef- I think our standards for cleavage is raised significantly by living in the breast augmentation capital
April 7th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Hef…no man, i thought you wanted the boobs to work together in harmony, creating one bust which will be pleasing to the man region.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Nice work with the trivia TBL. Ten comments and nobody is even arguing over your MVP choices.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
I see only two players in the MVP Race:
CP3 and King James
Look at their numbers and then look at the other playerson their teams and compare that to what KG and the rapist have on their teams
April 7th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
Hornets play the fakers on Friday. That will be the official crowning of CP3 as MVP
April 7th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
What does Bill Clinton have to do with this?
April 7th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
if Dwight doesnt win it, its KG hands down
@coach K- the Lebron MVP talk was January
April 7th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
But The Rapist deserves one guys! I don’t want to live in a world where Kobe Bryant retires without an MVP.
I think CP3 will win it. Best season by a PG since Magic + better teammates than Lebron = MVP season
April 7th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
But The Rapist deserves one guys!
It’s THERAPISTS.
/Alex Trebeck
April 7th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
@Gonzo: +1 sir. Well done.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Gimme Ape Tit for $100
- Turd Ferguson
April 7th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
@irish: I can’t tell if you’re joking or not or just being loyal. Do you really belive DH is the MVP?
April 7th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Before everybody goes quote crazy from SNL Jeopardy, there should really be some sort of commemorative post celebrating it. Those skits, as a group, are hands down the best skits in SNL history.
“Words That Rhyme With Amburger”
April 7th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
@Hef- to be honest, if he would of continued his dominance from the first half of the season, than yes by all means. I feel the same as you probably do about Amare deserving it. Fair?
April 7th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
you drink water out of one of these.
a leather glove.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Amare will make a real run at the 09 MVP
April 7th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Ben, +1. but if we do that, then it won’t seem as funny when we try to use it in the future. It would be like a be all to end all post.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Ursula Andress and Charo Twice.
Thats Foreign Flicks Mr. Connerry
April 7th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
I think Amare is great but he’s not MVP this year. I agree with my boy YYSA, he will make a strong run at it next year. Hell, it might be a DH/Stat MVP debate all year.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
well at least you know you only have to deal with one Dwight howard fan
April 7th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Amare should do the dunk contest along with D Howard next year. That would be fun as hell to watch
April 7th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
@YYSA- he already did. Remember Nash bounced it off his head like a soccer ball. Amare didnt win though did he
Dwight won his contest, lol
April 7th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Dwight won the throw-in contest, but Gerald Green was the best dunker.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
D Howard lost his first one Irish! be fair now
April 7th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
@nick- good thing Ben Wallace cant dunk huh lmao
April 7th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
@Gonzo: That is true. Upon further review, it would probably be funnier to sprinkly them in other posts where they fit.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
@YYSA- i block those bad things out lol. i forgot though to be honest with ya
April 7th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
do MVP’s really have boondoggles on their key chains? i think not
April 7th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
he must have made it in summer camp
