Ballin’: Go Nuts, the Playoffs are Finally Here
NBA April 17th. 2008, 9:00am
Dallas 111, New Orleans 98: Jason Kidd had a triple double (27-10-10) and Jason Terry pumped in 30 off the bench, and now everyone takes a deep breath and waits for the Mavs to ride karma to a opening-round victory of the Hornets.
San Antonio 109, Utah 80, : The problem with the Jazz is that they simply cannot beat quality teams on the road, and that’s why we can’t pick them against the Lakers. Beating the Rockets in Game 7 in Houston last year was impressive; could you really take them against Kobe and the Lakers in a similar scenario in round two?
Minnesota 110, Milwaukee 101 OT: See what we mean by chucker? Rashad McCants hoisted up 15 shots in 26 minutes; Corey Brewer took just nine in 33 minutes. Did any unknown close the season stronger than Milwaukee’s Ramon Sessions? With Mo Williams nursing that brutal injury, Sessions followed up a 20-point, 24-assist game with 25 points and 14 assists.
Denver 120, Memphis 111: George Karl mostly rested his starters, meaning only 21 minutes and 17 points for Carmelo Anthony in his first game post-DUI. Love this quote from Iverson, who is one of our favorite players of all-time: “The whole thing now is knowing that a mistake is only a mistake unless you make it two times.” That’s how it works for millionaires!
Seattle 126, Golden State 121: Kevin Durant went for career-highs of 42 points and 13 rebounds in perhaps his final game as a Sonic. More importantly, the Warriors and Nelli. How do quotes like these, from Andris Biedrins about teammate Marco Belinelli, a rookie who was buried in Nelli’s doghouse, help matters? “He is the best shooter on our team.” So why the hell hasn’t he been playing? Teams should start bidding for Baron Davis right now. Imagine the Heat shelling out money for him, and then drafting Michael Beasley first.

J.J. Redick scored a career-high 18 points and Marcin Gortat had a career-high 12 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Magic to a 103-83 victory in a meaningless regular-season finale for two playoff-bound teams.
Ron Artest is going to be a free agent as well. Ron Jeremy has expressed interest for him while he was with the Heat, so maybe he will this offseason. Who knows, it would be nice.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:05 am
I’d rather Miami draft Derrick Rose and plan for the future, but that is an enticing line up.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:05 am
what’s more impressive…jason kidd getting another triple double or jason kidd hitting a jump shot more than 2x?
April 17th, 2008 at 9:07 am
and then prepare to be let down when he shuts it down because he got paid. don’t get me wrong, i love b-diddy and think he’s a top 10 talent in the NBA, but when it’s not a contract year, or something is on the line, he ‘gets hurt.’
April 17th, 2008 at 9:11 am
The spurs looked good last night against the Jazz. i was hoping for a Jazz win, but it looks like Pop has his team all ready for the playoffs.
I dont like San Antonio because they are boring to watch imo. But it seems to me that they are always prepared at this time of year to do battle in the playoffs. Spurs and Suns is going to be a great series
April 17th, 2008 at 9:13 am
It’s firing day in the NBA. Coaches, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:18 am
is it possible to fire a coach before the playoffs? mike brown, youll be interested in the answer.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:23 am
@irish - Ron Jeremy? The fuck?
April 17th, 2008 at 9:24 am
CRM…don’t you think stan van looks a lot like mr. jeremy?
April 17th, 2008 at 9:25 am
The Hawks made the playoffs.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Just trying to say that as much as possible, before we’re swept by the C’s…
April 17th, 2008 at 9:26 am
@ATL- you guys will win at least one game i think. My new favorite Hawk Josh Smith will lead a victory one night
April 17th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Some positive economic news to balance out the gloom and doom that you guys link…..
Jobless Claims Up Less Than Expected, Boost Futures
April 17th, 2008 at 9:31 am
ATL…you could always throw waves of athletic small forwards at them. all those guys are WAY better than Chris Paul.
i wouldnt be surprised if the hawks won 2 games, dont think it’s likely, but wouldnt be shocked.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:37 am
I think TBL should start posting a little later the next 8 weeks as we all are going to have to stay up til 1 am to watch some good basketball.
I am not even excited for the Cavs in the playoffs this year.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Did you guys hear what Sir charles said about the Wizards? Calling them the dumbest team in the history of sports for calling out Lebron
I prefer Kobe over Lebron, but i have a bad feeling for the Wizards if they keep talking shit
April 17th, 2008 at 9:41 am
if they were a good defensive team, talking shit wouldnt be an issue. but come on…deshawn stevenson or gilbert are going to stop lebrizzy? even caron butler couldnt do shit.
hey, at least they made the series somewhat interesting…the basketball will most likely be fucking horrible.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:46 am
great game by the mavs. i’m looking for big things from them this postseason.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Holy fucking shit Spurs vs. Suns is gonna be a GREAT series! And LA- Denver and Dallas- N.O. will be entertaining as hell.
Celtics RESERVES just beat Atlanta in a game that had meaning for ATL. I’d be surprised if it’s not a sweep.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:49 am
Daily News says Isaih fired. No surprise.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Ed Tapscott quietly applauds this firing.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:52 am
An early Ballin’ post? Thank you, Mr. TBL.
/Averts eyes to avoid the shine coming off his guns.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:52 am
I have no idea what makes Mark Jackson a viable replacement for that position. I know he is from NYC, but does he have any coaching experience at all. Why not Rick Carlisle
April 17th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Did you see the defense Ramon Sessions played on Chris Duhon the other night?
April 17th, 2008 at 9:55 am
dear god…i know this has been touched on, but simmons just ruined an NBA season of good feelings by picking KG as his MVP.
when he says…
…during the same season where CP3 and Kobe gave us legendary performances, he just loses all credibility.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:57 am
@spence: I know, right? Fucking hack. Implicitly saying, “He ain’t that great, but the dude’s on Boston = MVP!!!!!!”
I actually do think he’s awesome and a top candidate, but the way he defended his selection was looney-tunes.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Simmons bases the MVP on which player gives him the biggest erection.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:01 am
Suns/Spurs oh my. I swear this better be the year the Suns send home the Spurs. If not I may just lose like 5 years off my basketball life.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:01 am
Spence - KG’s performance was legendary also. I would not argue with any of the three, but KG is right there with CP and Kobe. He COMPLETELY changed the entire organization. I know you and Nick will pull up stats, but bottom line is the team had the biggest win turn-around in NBA history, he was at the epicenter if the BEST defensive team in the NBA, and they won 66 games. Not to mention the Celts were 3-1 against NO and LA. I could go on, and we have all day, so…
April 17th, 2008 at 10:02 am
First time commenting in ballin! I’m only doing it because of the picture… I’m crying laughing right now!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:02 am
i think he’s overrated considering the celts were just as good when he was injured. i dont buy the whole act he’s putting on, as ive repeated umpteen million times this season. i think he’s the most invisible superstar in the league and has no business being in the conversation.
lets see what LBJ, Kobe or CP3 (or even Deron Williams or Tim Duncan) could do with PP and Ray Allen on their team.
sad thing is, i was really enjoying reading simmons all winter after hating him for all the pats stuff. and he went right back into Pat-job mode.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:04 am
@sportsgal- Do you know who that is? thats TBL at the 40/40 club
April 17th, 2008 at 10:05 am
@walfredo: It’s not that he isn’t deserving. It’s that he based his choice largely for “changing the attitude of the franchise.” (Read: sentimental bullshit). Also, that his Dad told him, “Do you see the way he cheers on the sidelines. He IS the team.” (Read: He’s a taller Ronny Turiaf)
If you have to make inane arguments like that, he’s not the MVP.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:05 am
im pretty sure the organization was completely changed when Ainge traded away or replaced 3/4 of the roster this offseason.
i know i rag on KG a lot, i really do think he’s a great player, but he’s not in duncan’s class, let alone any of the other guys at the top of the list in terms of the MVP. and for the record, in my eyes, duncan has been the MVP for almost as long as he’s been in the league with exception given to when shaq was on the lakers.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:10 am
@walfredo- Boston can be beat. You dont mention the records they have against the east teams. Boston is 1-2 against Orlando. We all know how the Wizards did against them.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:11 am
My ballot order would be CP3, LBJ, KB24, KG
And Spence I agree, Duncan has been the best player in the leauge for this decade
April 17th, 2008 at 10:13 am
No doubt Boston can be beat. If this was a bracket style playoff, I would be terrified as a Boston fan. But a long series favors a team like Boston.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:16 am
Not even talking about Simmons, as I really don’t care.
I know it’s cliche but they won w/ out Garnett because he had already taught them all how to be freaking professionals! His defense, especially against pick-and-rolls is smothering. He changed Paul Pierce from a selfish cry-baby into a team guy, and the C’s won 66 games! Every good offensive posession runs through him, wheteher he ends up with a stat or not, and most importantly, people think Doc Rivers is a good coach because of him!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:20 am
That Simmons column was dogshit.
Who is that in the picture?
Will T-Mac make it out of the first round?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Wal - Why did he not win in Minnesota the year before? By using the same arguement you could say he was only really ‘worth’ 10 wins (if you dont attribute any value in Ricky Davis). Minn with KG was coming off back to back 33 win seasons. It also has a lot to do with the fact that Boston had PP Ray Allen and KG and the great team defense. Also Rajon Rando being very effecient on offense.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:23 am
I love Garnett, but he wasn’t “changing the culture” of those Minnesota teams. Is his “culture changing” ability directly correlated to the quality of his teammates? Interesting concept. He was great…not great enough to be MVP.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:24 am
If you know it’s cliche, then don’t say it. Because it’s worthless.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Irish - Of course Boston can be beat! Just not by Atlanta! I was mentioning records in the MVP argument. I actually fear Cavs and Wizards, based on match-ups.
Bear - If it were bracket-style, every team in the league would be scared, not just Boston. How you think lakers fans would feel w/ a one-game playoff vs. Nuggets?
And I agree that Duncan has been best player in the league for ten years. My argument has no connection whatsoever to Bill Simmons. We just happen to root for the same teams.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:27 am
youll never see duncan having an argument supported by, “he led the most historic win-loss turnaround in NBA history…” because duncan’s teams always do well. that’s the true measure of a valuable player. those minny teams were dogshit even with KG there and that can’t be overlooked WHEN youre using arbitrary, intangible arguments in support of your case.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:27 am
@walfredo- i know. i was just being an ass reminding you. Too bad Orlando wont meet them in the 2nd round, we will hopefully get Philly.
Duncan the best player in the league the past ten years?????? no no no
April 17th, 2008 at 10:28 am
yea, i feel bad for boston fans having to have him be the beacon for so much national online hate.
then i remember the pats, sox and celts and historic bruins and how much SOME (not all) boston fans bitch and moan and all that sympathy is gone.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:30 am
who is? not trying to start shit or be a dick, just curious, there’s no right answer.
the way i see it, the spurs havent had ANY great players until the last 2 years with mr. longoria and manu. yet they still played close to 100 games since the lockout season…the one constant? my boy duncan.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:34 am
@Irish - it can’t be TBL, his biceps would get in the way of the camera!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:34 am
You have to use “arbritray, intangible arguments” in the MVP discussion because the award has no tangible guidelines to follow.
I don’t care about KG’s Minny teams, but he led them to the playoffs in the West for a decade, when his best side-kick (w/ exception of one season) was Wally! Specnce, how’s Wally as a side-kick for your squad this year? Of course you need a good supporting cast (see Duncan’s entire career… David Robinson, Ginobli, Parker, Popovich, etc…). The bottom line is that KG has completely transformed the best regular season team in the NBA offensively, defensively, spiritually, emotionally, etc… He is equal to if not superior to Kobe and CP in the MVP discussion…
April 17th, 2008 at 10:36 am
A bracket style playoffs would be exciting as hell.
The NBA should go back to 5 game series in the first round.
Last 10 years best player in the league Duncan/Shaq both have 4 titles.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Don’t discount David Robinson.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:38 am
i think Shaq has been the most dominant player in the past ten years(1998-2008).
April 17th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Sorry–I had some actual work to do.
@Irish/Spencer–the Hawks appreciate your support. God knows they need it. While I do believe they’ll get swept, it wouldn’t completely surprise me if they won 1-2 games. If they got on a roll, they could be nearly unstoppable. It’s so frustrating, because if they played any defense at all, they would be so much better–and they have to recognize this. They had a stretch of 11-5 down the stretch (before they started playing their subs the last few games) so I know they can do it…but Boston is looking like the best team in the NBA right now…so who knows? As I’ve said before, the Hawks will at least be entertaining. They may get swept, but it won’t be boring. I’m just glad the rest of the country gets to see them for once. Oh, and Josh Childress is the man.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Irish - Shaq and Duncan both have 4 titles, with about equal supporting casts, so you can’t really argue with either. I mean, they are no KG or Dwight Howard, but they are the next tier
April 17th, 2008 at 10:41 am
First there are plenty of tangible guidlines to follow if you so choose. He is not equal to CP or LBJ is almost any tangible measure and its not even close, in fact in he far behind them. Now as far as the intangibles go, they are hard to disprove. One wy is to see if they are consistent over time which has not been the case for KG as witnessed in Minn the last two seasons. You dont care about Minn’s teams. Fine, I will say Ray Allen is the reason for the transformation of the “completely transformed the best regular season team in the NBA offensively, defensively, spiritually, emotionally, etc”. Prove me wrong.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:42 am
I thought the Simmons argument made a lot of sense. I think his argument centered around value which, obviously, is a hard concept to define. Some will like it, some will not. But at the end of the day, he made a good case for KG.
I think KG’s always been a “culture changer” or whatever. I mean he really really pushed some of his team mates in Minny that had no business even sniffing the playoffs. You give him wade’s team on the heat (sans wade) and I’m sure he’d pull them to at least contention. He’s the NBA’s best intangibles guy.
That being said, I think Paul has the similar intangibles and has completely changed the culture of the Hornets… and has better stats. SO yeah, I’m going CP3, KG, Kobe, LeGlobal Icon
April 17th, 2008 at 10:42 am
i DO discount David Robinson because he was KG before KG was KG. i.e. a guy who should dominate all the time, occasionally does, but doesn’t get it done in important situations. parker and manu have been good the last 2 years, but they were inconsistent and average before that, and SA has always drafted in the bottom of the draft meaning theyre not getting the best talent…BUT IT ALWAYS WORKS OUT.
KG led minny to the playoffs when the west wasnt that strong…and the only year he made it out of the first round was when he had Sam Cassel and Spree before Spree went absolutely nuts.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:43 am
when has duncan played with ANYONE near as good as Kobe?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:44 am
When Shaq won his 4th title, he was part of the supporting cast. Him, Posey, Haslem, Salvatore, Walker, et al.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Intangibles allow you to say whatever you want in regards to a player’s qualifications. It’s the reason why Jeter is the grittiest of the grit and 10 times better than A-Rod.
@jb: C’mon now. A one-and-done format would be awful. The NBA playoffs have it right. Screw college.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:45 am
@walfredo- KG is too old to be in the same league as Dwight Howard. KG will be known as the second best PF of his generation, behind Tim Duncan. The next tier of NBA Champions is Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudemire
April 17th, 2008 at 10:46 am
I think Lebron has the best Intangibles Above Replacement Player (IARP) in the entire league, and I could write 10 paragraphs why. Could I prove it? No. Would it be anecdotal, sentimental bullshit? Of course.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:47 am
who you talking to spencer? david robinson maybe?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:47 am
@NickP–A-Rod had dirt on his uniform last night, so he’s probably a true Yankee now.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:47 am
@Irish, when will Howard do anything more than dunk? Honest question, is he developing a post game at all? Don’t see many Orlando games up here.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Clown, were you talking about Bennet Salvatore? If so, that’s pretty good.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:49 am
@atl: That pussy wiped dirt on his uni after the game and before he got interviewed so BBTN would think he was gritty. Derek Jeter sleeps in a bed of dirt.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:50 am
@justinsands- Howard is only 22 years old. A low post game similar to what Amare has donw after the surgery would be nice. A nice jump shot would be very nice. But honestly, he is one powerful mfer down on the block. Two steps and a facial on someone. There is no one in the league that can match up with Dwight Howard one on one in the block
April 17th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Nick, you’re such an IARPie - it’s ridiculous
April 17th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Anyone else suprised to see LeBron wasn’t in the top 5 in dunks? I just assumed he would be 2nd behind DH.. Iggy was in the top 5!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:52 am
thast the thing about LBJ and dwight…theyre young so what does it matter if all they do is drive to the hole or dunk, theyll learn eventually once they realize they wont be able to rely on athleticism forever? theyre both ridiculously effective doing just that, and youll have a hard time stopping them no matter who you are.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:53 am
yea…but he has been laying it up more with 3 guys draped on him so take it for what it’s worth.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:54 am
Spence - I agree Duncan is best, but you cna’t argue too much against Shaq. Just like you can’t really argue against Kobe, KG, CP, or LeBron for that matter for MVP.
Nick - Intangibles are why KG > Al Jefferson, Tom Brady > Peyton Manning (insert Super Bowl choke joke here), Marvin Harrison > T.O., Carmelo < a handful of less talented players…
April 17th, 2008 at 10:56 am
@NICK a one done but dont you think they should go back to 5 game series for the first round? A-Rod has no intagiables.
@irish do you agree that STAT is better since the surgery?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:57 am
depends on the time…1994-2004 it’s shaq, 2000-now i gotta give it to duncan because of shaq’s post-2004 decline.
and i know youll probably hate me, but id rather have Peyton. brady’s legendary status is a little inflated if you ask me. last year was ridiculous tho.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:57 am
Eastern conference series should be 5 games in the first round.. the western conference should be best of 9, like the old time world series.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Yeah all of the sudden tony parker 19 year old 28th pick in the draft and Ginobilli, 57th pick are the reasons Timmy D has all those titles. Robinson was 37 in 03. But its also more than just the titles. Every year the team was in it to win it. Only 1 loss in first round.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:58 am
yea, 5 game series for sure. A-Rod doesnt need intangibles…his production speaks for itself.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:59 am
@jb49- if that is Amare, oh yeah. i think he has benefited greatly from having Shaq play the center and him at his normal position PF
April 17th, 2008 at 10:59 am
@SM- only 1 loss in the first round since they have had Duncan?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Intangibles are why Eli & Peyton >>>> Tom Brady over the last 3 years.
Seems to me all Tom cares about is getting his numbers. He could care less about wins. He just wants the glory and the fame/money/supermodels that come with it. The way he treated his baby momma? Just shows to me has no intangibles.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:00 am
you mean there’s more than one round in the playoffs?!?!?!?!
/TMac
April 17th, 2008 at 11:00 am
clown…that was awesome.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:01 am
“and i know youll probably hate me, but id rather have Peyton. brady’s legendary status is a little inflated if you ask me. last year was ridiculous tho.”
Spence- that’s it. Our virtual friendship is over…
April 17th, 2008 at 11:02 am
@clown- which one of the Texas teams do you like? It cant be Houston
April 17th, 2008 at 11:03 am
@irish, STAT was doing great things before Shaq arrived too. The surgery made him focus on his outside shooting and now he is dangerous from 18 feet. He’s dangerous driving to the rim, because big forwards have to stay up on him.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:03 am
ill remember the good times walfredo.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:03 am
My first reaction to the picture was Steve Nash. I can’t wait to stay up late watching the Western Conference playoffs.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:04 am
@hef- whats up with STAT though being a nickname? superman > STAT in nicknames and game lol
April 17th, 2008 at 11:04 am
87 comments and nobody mentioned that the Jazz clearly wanted to lose last night so they can play against the Rockets in the 1st round? Maybe they forgot how that worked last year for the Mavs…
April 17th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Yeah they lost to that suns team. Rodney Rogers was a best. In fact he was so good, the next year this team Boston traded for him and his grit lead them to the finals. There is no way thye would have made the finals without him because KG was not there and Paul Pierce and Toine suck
April 17th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Yeah, I wasn’t saying he was awful for just dunking, I was just curious if he’s developing. The problem w/ a lot these kids (esp the ones straight from High School) is that they don’t develop an all around game. Either not playing D, not working on jump shooting or on post moves.
I wasn’t criticizing, merely asking
That and I really miss centers like Hakeem, Smitts, Robinson and (to a certain degree) Ewing who had sweet, signature post moves. This generation only had Duncan for that.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Im not a yankee fan but I was rooting for A-Rod to do something in the playoffs last year.
A 9 game series between the suns and spurs would lead to Amare beating the shit out Bruce Bowen.
Eastern conference should play 3 game series like the wnba until the conference finals then play a 7 game series
East will have 3 sweeps in the first round
Boston sorry ATl
Detroit
Orlando
April 17th, 2008 at 11:07 am
@justin- i know man. Keep commenting on this board. Trust me, im hoping it doesnt take an injury for him to develop his jump shot.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:07 am
might look hideous, but Zydrunas has some signature post moves that are pretty effective.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:08 am
I’m a Mavs fan. It’s tough, too, cuz everyone here in Austin luvs the Spurs (when they are winning).
April 17th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Are you forgetting Big Z? He may not have much else, but he does have post moves. He also runs up and down the court like he has a 55 gallon drum of grit strapped to his back, so that has to count for something.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:08 am
@irish: Have you heard about Shaq being upset that Howard is using the name superman? He said something along the lines of, “there’s only one superman from orlando and you’re looking at him.” It’s funny and childish, two of my favorite things.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:09 am
Standing Tall and Talented better then ripping a nickname off a former Magic Center
April 17th, 2008 at 11:09 am
Zydrnas would have better than Arvydas had he not have spent more time in the Cleveland Clinic than their chief surgeon.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:09 am
@clown- oh nooooooo. lol. at least your not a bandwagon jumper
April 17th, 2008 at 11:10 am
@Hef- i had no clue about that. That is hilarious. F ing Shaq, can never keep his mouth closed. Do you have a link of that?
April 17th, 2008 at 11:11 am
I’m a little late for this conversation, but I thought I’d throw it out there. I’m from Boston originally and I’m actually growing to hate all Boston fans due to how obnoxious they’ve become. I used to root for the Sox and Pats because that’s who we rooted for when I was a kid, but now that they’ve won, it’s become unbearable. I think I officially converted last year after world series.

I haven’t read all of these posts. My ADD kicks in at like 50 if I didn’t comment early on, but I will say that I thought Simmons defended KG as the MVP pretty well, in interpreting that MVP is the most VALUABLE player, not necessarily the best. No one impacted their team this year like KG did, except for maybe CP3. It’s a toss up between those two in my eyes.
Now on the other hand, his selection of Rajon Rondo as his most improved player was just retarded and completely homerish. It’s Hedo. Come on.

“Superman is still mine” (mumble mumble)

He is still crying about Miami? Son of a bitch. I hate him more every time he opens his mouth. What the hell is that washed up crybaby’s problem?
April 17th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Thanks clown. You beat me to it.

I see that 4 of the 6 “experts” on the ESPN site pick the Mavs to win the series over the Hornets. Unbelievable. I know the Hornets slumped last week, but come on. Are they basing it on one single game that the Hornets had nothing to play for?
April 17th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Hef- Not the first time I’ve heard that sentiment but I don’t get because BOSTON IS THE GREATEST CITY ON EARTH AND ALL OTHER SPORTS TEAMS FROM ALL OTHER SITIES CAN LICK BIG PAPI’S ASS-HOLE!!!
All kidding aside, all fans resent fans from other cities whose teams are successful. Just so happens Boston has had a good run, with the exception of that DEVASTATING game in January…

Shaq hasn’t been super in a long time.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Boston goes 7-2 (including wins agasint San Antonio and Dallas) without KG. Good thing he was one the bench or else they probably would have been 0-9 during that strech. Good thing he came back though because he lead them to 3 straight losses.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:19 am
thanks clown. Shaq said anyone can win the slam dunk contest LOL
April 17th, 2008 at 11:21 am
@walfredo: I’ve got enough friends/family in Boston still to make me pay attention and watch, but it gets old. Their teams are great but, I don’t know. I don’t even hate the Yankees anymore, I’m just annoyed that they get so much run from ESPN.

Jay, people tend to minimize the Hornets season. At the All-Star break everybody said they would fade late in the season because of their inexperience (and they didn’t) and now they are picking the Mavs because of the Hornets playoff inexperience. Sometimes it seems that they are talking about kids playing their first NBA game…and not some veterans with a couple of seasons under their belt. BTW since when Mo Pete and especially Peja are playoff inexperienced players? Oh well…
April 17th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Fixed for my own amusement.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Yeah, CH4OS.
All that NBA Finals experience the Mavs got really paid off for them last year. That’s for them, not you.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:25 am
If losing 4 of their last 6 is not fading, what is?
April 17th, 2008 at 11:25 am

sandibalz: I am stunned that happened. No really. Shocked and stunned and amazed. Really.
/hope that joke doesn’t get old too fast cause I love doing it.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:31 am
hef - I am, really, after all the donk moves they’ve made so far, I totally saw him coming back, just cuz the owner is an idiot. Should have happened about 3 years ago.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:33 am
I went to the Suns game last night and my buddy and I are walking to our seats through the stairwell and passed Steve Kerr walking down. My buddy (intoxicated) shouted out “Kerr for a GM you got serious balls”- highlight of the evening since the Suns brought out the scrubs in the second half.

Anyone else think we should change the Gregorian Calendar to keep up with the NBA so that we don’t have split years? It’s annoying when people bring up the 2005-06 year and say “remember in 06?” Are we talking about 06-07 or 05-06.. it’s annoying!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:42 am
@cc. I think it’s worse in NFL and college football with the 95% of the season in one year, and the championship game in another.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:44 am
cursed…agree. tho i always err on the side of the most recent year unless referring to a specific date. i believe that should be the accepted, universal protocol.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:48 am
@clown, and still they managed to get a 2nd seed in the West? When the so called “experts” told that the Hornets would fade, they were saying they would finish in the 5-8 spots not in 2nd and as winning the most competitive division in all the Association. If that’s fading in the 2nd half of the season, ok.
BTW since when losing against Utah, @LAL, @SAC and @DAL is so bad that the 2nd seed should be considered an underdog against a team that during most part of the 2nd half of the season didn’t win against a team with a winning record.
So i should say the Lakers faded down the stretch since they lost at home against Charlotte and Memphis in a row. C’mon…people continue to take all minimum things to knock down the Hornets, just because they are not a sexy team. Geeeez
April 17th, 2008 at 11:51 am
I think the “honey bees” are sexy

Is that a picture of Steve Nash or Tom Cruise in Magnolia?
