Shaq Puts Duncan and the Floppers On Notice
NBA April 22nd. 2008, 6:30pm
Shaq just took the gauntlet and placed it squarely in front of the Spurs bench. If you think the Wizards and Cavs have gotten chippy, this quote from the Big Whateveritisthisweek should make for an enjoyable Tuesday night:
“That (flopping) is some bull. Then you all write like these (expletive) guys can play. Give me a (expletive) break.”
Sadly, we smell a Spurs blowout. If memory serves, the Spurs usually can be surprised in game one - they lost the first game in round one in 03, 05 and 07, and then went on to win the NBA title each time - but game two is much more difficult. Especially since the Spurs are at home, with the Suns having played virtually the perfect game (led for the entire game) and lost … we’re not feeling too confident.

we’re not feeling too confident. are you writing in the Royal We again?
Nevermind. While the Suns did play nearly perfect in game 1 and lost (all because Duncan hit a 3 pointer), I wouldn’t feel so down and out about the Suns. Nash and Amare will take over and they will be tied by game 4.
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Already posted but worth noting: Grant Hill is a gametime decision for tonight’s Game 2 against the Spurs. Wonder how many times that sentence has been written over the past 13 years (different opponents of course).
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:41 pm
This joke displeases me. The joke from earlier, I like; I keep. The next time you tell this joke, it’ll be for the Hamptons.
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:45 pm
@TBL: That’s exactly why they won’t win this year. They didn’t lose the first game of the first round. Suns in 6.
/optimistic Hef
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:46 pm
@TBL: I agree, the suns will lose tonight by a lot. Remember Game 5 last year when they almost won without Amare and Boris and then got blown out in Game 6? They almost won Game 1 and now will get blown out in Game 2.
/pessimistic Hef
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:47 pm
I don’t understand this, but I find it immensely funny.
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:48 pm
If Popovich coached the Suns instead of the Spurs, the Suns would sweep them
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:50 pm
When do the Suns play Duke?
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:53 pm
@hef: I can’t view youtube at work, so I can’t confirm if this is the exact video I want, but this should help explain it. If you’re not a Newsradio fan, you should be.
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Of course I’m a Newsradio fan, you sunt.
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Is Shaq really talking about Duncan, though? I know he isn’t trying to say that Duncan can’t play, because Duncan has always been a better player than Shaq.
Always.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:00 pm
When do the Suns play Duke? When the dow dips below 10000
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:00 pm
@Nick: I hadn’t seen that episode before, but wow. Amazing.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:00 pm
@TBL: Don’t encourage him. We’re hoping he won’t come back.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Shaq put up 11 and 5 in a double-overtime loss. Congratulations. Now kindly shut the hell up and watch as Duncan shows you how it’s done.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:05 pm
@Hef: That’s my favorite episode by far. Get the DVDs.
@spartan: Don’t disrespect Shaq like that. He was the best player in the league for a 4 year stretch.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Shaq was in foul trouble, Mike. He was called for several BS calls. Duncan was not called for petty fouls. I think that’s why he’s upset.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:06 pm
@Nick: Why get DVDs when I can be a pirate? Arrrrrrggggghhh.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:12 pm
That’s because Tim Duncan actually plays defense. (All-defensive how many times, 10?). Shaq’s upset because Duncan went wild and because he lost.
Well, at least he’s through complaining about his situation in Miami.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:12 pm
If memory serves me right I believe the Suns lost a close game 1 last year against the Spurs. (Nash Bloody Nose) Then bounced back and blew out the spurs.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Good point.
But I have to ask, isn’t that cheating the TV studio and people like Andy Dick out of countless royalties?
If you don’t like floppers, you can’t be a pirate!
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I agree. Plus, it takes too damn long to download a billion gigs of video. Besides, Netflix is legal and convenient.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:53 pm
?????
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:55 pm
no comments on this crap with the Magic/Raptors being exclusively on NBATV. Only game on tomorrow is the Sixers/Pistons and it’s on NBATV Only as well. And the first question from the NBA is gonna be “why is viewership down?” What idiots.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:00 pm
3 games tomorrow, sandi.
2 on TNT; 1 NBATV
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Any other meritless complaints?
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:04 pm
my bad….well, TNT’s bad really, that’s what they flashed as the schedule for tomorrow. Still, kinda shitty to limit just to NBATV. It’s still not part of the basic package like the NFL Network, at least on DirecTV. Thanks Nick P.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:07 pm
@sandi: You’re right. You have to pay for the $12 per month gay ass sports package (which includes b.s. like Tennis and Soccer channels), or get it with your purchase of NBA League Pass (how I did)
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Nick - I love the NBA/NFL and even the NHL…but I ain’t payin extra to watch them. It costs an arm and a leg for everything else in this damn world, let alone payin more to watch something that was totally free in the past. Guess I’m just cheap…I do get NFL Ticket though (mainly so I can watch Herm Edwards Fuck up my chiefs).
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:11 pm
we have it on sun sports here in florida but for some reason the HD channel is frozen…im pretty pissed
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:13 pm
@sandi: I’m not a big NFL fan, so NBA was the easy choice for me.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:13 pm
I never thought I’d love to see Tony Battie in a game…my god I hate Foyle
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:15 pm
jeff - yeah…sun sports never worked out a deal with Direct TV….if they did I have no idea what channel it is.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Man, if Foyle is hitting hook shots, I know my two bets (small Raptors to win, bigger Raps +7) are in trouble.
Hornets can’t miss
poor Cuban
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:16 pm
holy shit…I found it….thanks for pointing that out JEFF
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:16 pm
I live in orlando and was pretty pissed I wasn’t seeing the game on tv.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:18 pm
@TBL…you’re in trouble.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:18 pm
I have comcast so we have the HD channel but for some reason its just completely locked up or skipping badly…comcast had a problem with fsn so I missed half the magic games because of that
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:21 pm
completely ridiculous the open looks the magic get with howard in compared to foyle…have I mentioned how much I hate foyle?
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:24 pm
come on lewis…looks horrible from long range tonight
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:25 pm
toronto is so ugly on d they remind me of wanda from in living color
but jason kapano looks damn good, wasn’t he in cleveland? why was he nothing there?
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:26 pm
lewis looks tired..
kapano was nothing because larry hughes was supposed to be better than him…wanda was ugly..but I would leave that comparison for the nuggets…at least the raptors are trying not to look ugly
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Flyers with a cheap goal to take a 2-1 lead. no penalty for roughing the goalie.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:32 pm
why the hell do they keep leaving kapono? I hope hedo is saving the offense for the 4th quarter…
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
hedo = flagrant 1 = stupid
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
@tbl
great question.. he was also with charlotte.. he didn’t become anything until he played alongside shaq.. hard to believe considering how good of a shooter he.. quickest release (by far) in this league..
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Gonzo: the hockey thread is over at oprah.com.

April 22nd, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Dallas is 2-9 in the playoffs since game 3 of the finals 2 years ago. Wow.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
it looks like the hornets are shooting into the ocean…it’s goddamnrediculous
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:45 pm
@hef
what are the 2 playoff games they won? they lost the next 4 to miami after their game 2 victory (go heat!) and then they got swept by golden state last year, and are down 1-0 to the hornets.. whats the 2 games that im forgetting?
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Gonzo: the hockey thread is over at oprah.com.
Playing the role of Mafia tonight will be none other than Hef.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
nice little comeback by the raps … i’ll still never understand how the magic just jack up 3’s all night long … when you have a guy who is nearly automatic inside, and dont at least give him a touch or two … i just dont get it
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Cortes, Dallas won 2 games vs Golden State last year.
/Hockey guy knows more than Cortes about B-Ball.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm
the hornets will top 100 before the 3rd is over … cuban’s blog should be hot tomorrow!
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
yep ur right gonzo my bad thanks
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
@tbl - mr automatic is the fall back plan…if they start missing those threes they just go back to him. at the rate they’re making them they may get to the finals without tiring out howard.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
clinton up 60-40 … 1% reporting
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:50 pm
as soft as we all thought the raptors were…the mavericks are softer. I didn’t think it was possible.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:50 pm
and gonzo im a baseball guy but ok.. and hockey sucks lol
// might have something to do with the panthers not making the playoffs in the last decade
// ashamed panthers fan.. ugh..
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
whenever they throw the ball to howard it results in him taking a shot since hes not a great passer as of yet, and unless its a dunk or very close range isnt likely to go in
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
@gonzo: c’mon. I have no contempt for you. I joke. I kid.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
haha you flinched first. That’s GOTCHA reporting.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
[Hangs head in shame].
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
how many times is Dwight gonna put up 20/20 before we nickname him “Barbara Walters”?
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
clinton takes PA
wow, only 6% reporting and they say it’s over
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
excerpts from HC’s speech tonight:
“It’s a new race since Iowa. Iowa was a different race. I can win the big states. This was the first race since the ‘bitter’ comments and the Rev Wright scandal. We are fighting to the end”
Guess Mrs. Rhodam never taught her daughter how to lose gracefully.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Clinton is like that kid, who after you beat him in a “best of 3″ is like “come on… best of 5…”
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
@TBL: who’s your source? Nytimes.com still says too close to call.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:17 pm
how many times is Dwight gonna put up 20/20 before we nickname him “Barbara Waltersâ€

April 22nd, 2008 at 9:41 pm
It has since been updated. I was out and relying on my Blackberry for news.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Wow, what a ticky tack call on amare at the top of the key
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Amare looks good. Why are they calling those bullshit fouls though? They call the pussy ones early and then late they don’t call anything.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Not that the NBA fans care but OT in Flyers/Caps is keeping me away from Suns/Spurs
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:56 pm
STAT’s got his jumper going.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Raja Bell, bitches!!!111!1!1!

carlos delfino just crossed the shit out of lewis …
here’s what i dont get - tie game at 100 and the magic JACK A TERRIBLE SHOT without even getting it down to howard? So silly. i’d rather a dwight TO than some guy missing a three

April 22nd, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Huet gave up a little rebound and Lupoul was there to backhand in the rebound. Tom Poti got called for an obvious tripping call to give the Flyers the PP
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:04 pm
oh, Magic took the lead…(sad I have to watch the TNT ticker)
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:05 pm

April 22nd, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Tentative shot by Bosh
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:11 pm
irish called the 1 point win…must have seen the 0-14 or 15 on 3’s from lewis and turk
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:11 pm
chris bosh missed an 18 footer for the game
magic 104, raptors 103

April 22nd, 2008 at 10:12 pm

April 22nd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
back to back 20-20s in the playoffs that is
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:18 pm
This D.Wade Barkley commercial about the Why there is no Barkley statue in Philly is great. I can see you on a horse, eating a cheesesteak.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:20 pm
The Suns piss away leads like no other. It was just 15 points and i turned over for the Magic game and now the Suns lead is down to five.
really pulling for the Suns tonight
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Woohoo! Look out Habs, here we come. I’m Flyered Up!
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:23 pm
bummer about ovechkin
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Nice hard foul on Parker. Make him fear the lane…damn right.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
I don’t know if I’m going to be able to watch this whole game. With each swing, I feel it in my gut.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:36 pm
As a Penguins fan, I was cheering for the Caps.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:36 pm
helluva first half by Shaq, huh? Big fella’s still got it.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:37 pm
1-1 Sharks-Lames 5:00 left in the first
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Iginla and Thornton with goals FYI
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Shaq picks up his 1st with 98 seconds left in the half. And it’s a hard one on Parker. I like this version of the old Shaq
“it’s like a gnat smashing into the windshield of a yugo” - K Harlan
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
“Mike D’Antoni’s got a brilliant offensive mind”
True. It makes up for his defensive failings.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Wow, Parker can score at will…of course, so can Amare. They are incredible.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
He calls it Steve Nash.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:51 pm
dont know if anyone caught any of the magic-raptors press conferences but sam mitchell and chris bosh were complaining about a no-call on the next to last shot for them, the bosh drive to the basket…really? really??? a no call on that? with all the garbage calls and non calls the raptors got at the end?
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:51 pm
blog may start tomorrow late because i have to watch this suns game. can’t miss it. too damn good
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:56 pm
@TBL: Fair enough. Just put a new post up with a pic of Erin Andrews before you go to bed, though, and all will be well in TBL-land.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Owen Nolan on an as ugly a breakaway goal as possible 2-1 Flames..maybe (under review).. and it’s a goal. 2-1 Lames
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Sure, it’s just the Royals, but welcome back CC. We missed you. 6ip, 11k, 2w, 4h and lowered his era from 13+ to a shade over 10.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:15 pm
We have a Jeremy Roenick sighting tonight. Seteguchi tips Roenicks shot from the point past Kippursoff. 2-2
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:15 pm
I don’t know if it would for you guys, but it qualifies as news for me: Bill Simmons was in my hometown for E60
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
@ fetch: I saw it. I think they may have got a shot of you at Wal Mart.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
It may as well be NHL ‘94 for Genesis. Roenick with a goal to put the sharks up 3-2 on the Powerplay
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Haha, well since I’m at college, I doubt it’s me.
PS Bismarck isn’t as podunk as it’s portrayed.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Y’know, it’s not so much me as it is Roenick. He’s good.
/Trent Walker
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Wow Sharks are putting it away. After Joe Pavelski goes top shelf and chases Kipursoff from the net, Seteguchi gets another one and the Sharks are up 5-2.
It’s looking like Avs-Red wings in the second round
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Y’know, it’s not so much me as it is Roenick. He’s good.
/Trent Walker
Nomo, that was money.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:37 pm
The ancient Jeremy Roenick. Game 7 1G, 3 assists 4 points. He’s good
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:38 pm
yes +1 Nomo.. and congrats Gonzo that was a great game earlier
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Scoring changed.. Roenick 2G, 2A 4 points
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Thanks dude. My energy is drained. I swear I turned the channel for 2 minutes and now the Sharks are up by 3. amazing.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Yeah they were taking it to the Flames almost all game. But the last 10 minutes or so has been crazy. 5-2 after 2.
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:08 am
anyone still watching? Suns were just down 13, it’s at 5 with 2:16 left. Wow, some exchange there - sick pass by Parker, and Amare blocked DUncan’s layup, but a foul was called
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:11 am
Another ugly Flames goal. Nail(Who !?!) throws one off a Primeau and it ricochets into the net. 5-3 Sharks lead
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:11 am
Sorry TBL Game 7 hockey trumps game 2 NBA (for me anyways)
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:39 am
Lame question - but how do I change my avatar?
I can’t stand the Big Cactus/Big Aristotle/Steel/Shazam/Neon/Shaq Fu/Shaq Taco Bell and BK promotions but I really wish him and the Suns can get their act together, I’m tired of Duncan and Team Vanilla getting a ring at the end of (practically) every season.
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:42 am
Sharks Win 5-3. Phaneuf and Pronger are free to have a douche-off in something other than hockey since they aren’t playing hockey until October.

I feel like I live in a Bizarro world where no one else can see that Shaq is a stiff old fat man who is hilariously bad given his overwhelming size advantage. He such a marginal contributor to this team, yet everyone acts like he is going to determine their season. He’s a joke, and he needs to shut his mouth. It’s embarassing.
