Cheers! The NBA Playoffs Continue
NBA April 25th. 2008, 5:25pm
TBL is on a plane somewhere (and somewhen!) over the Atlantic right now, so Greg Oden will be the one toasting you into this huge weekend in sports. We’ve got the second weekend of the NBA and NHL Playoffs; baseball, the Draft, and Patrick Imig. While you don’t have to drink boxed wine to hang out, I’m sure Patrick will enjoy your company as he takes you through this big weekend. After the jump, we’ll take a quick look at each playoff series.
Eastern Conference:
The Celtics are Liz Lemon and the Hawks are Button Classic because the C’s are crushing them. I thought the Hawks could steal one, but it looks like its going to be Broom Time in Beantown. (Look for that headline from all major sports outlets next week.) The series continues tomorrow at 8. [Our very own atlantasportsfan sounds off on A-town Fandom]
LeBron was beastly in games 1 and 2 and then the Wiz started to actually play ball in game 3. We’ll have to see if the trend of the Wizards actually acting like the better team continues. This much is certain, DeShawn Stevenson is annoying. Game 4 is Sunday at 1.
It looked like Dwight Howard and the Fighting irishmafia’s were going to sweep, but Toronto responded at home with a big win last night. Somebody is leaving this series with playoff experience. Game 4 is tomorrow at 3.
The big surprise so far was the 76ers stealing homecourt advantage from the Pistons. If someone actually tells Andre Iguogala that he’s allowed to score in the playoffs we could be looking at a big upset. If Detroit wins tonight (at 7) this one could be over even though it will only be 2-1.
Time for a refill…

Damn. That does look tasty…
Western Conference:
So far the Lakers have beaten the Nuggets handily. We’ve already had 49 from Kobe, now its time for the 167-159 regulation thriller. Look for it tomorrow at 5:30.
Three close games, one Houston win. Can Rafer Alston’s return make the difference? Will tomorrow’s 10:30 start time be the final straw that causes T-Mac to finally fall asleep?
Chris Paul is who we thought he was. If you want to crown Chris Paul, crown his ass. That Jason Kidd trade seems kind of silly at this point doesn’t it? Catch the latest installment of “Crushing Dirk’s Dreams” tonight at 8.
The Spurs will not die. The Suns on the other hand… 10:30 tonight Steve Nash – facing a 0-2 deficit – tries to save the season.
If you want to go back and look at how staggeringly accurate my predictions were:
Have a safe weekend everybody. Remember to not drink box wine and drive. TBL will be back sometime… *cues the black screen* Enjoy the Imig.

Dirk Nowitzki can only dream because of the efforts of David Hasslehoff.

RE: The Office: I can’t tell you how many times I expected someone on that show to call Dwight a Schrutebag. He was terrific.

“Nice try. There could be anything in this.”
April 25th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
“I’m a bank teller!” “Ryan says to always tell woman you work in finance.”
April 25th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Hugging…How ethnic.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
This whole Josh Howard weed thing is ridiculous. Not gonna lie, Howard saying he smokes week instantly made him one of my favorites in the NBA, that and Steve A. bitching about him made me like him more too.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
What percent of NBA players smoke weed? 95? In other news, damn Penguins.
April 25th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
here we go…lets hope we don’t have anymore of that bullshit that happened last night….I might not be able to commnt if so.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
What an absolute disgrace the Pistons are. TBL’s right about the Pistons being the most boring team in the NBA; they’re also the most vomit-inducing.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Got off a plane Friday and the Pistons were losing to the 76ers … just got off a plane again and the Pistons are losing to the 76ers
Where are all those clowns who were on the Pistons bandwagon this season? How many more frothy profiles will we see about that awesome bench? Flip Saunders is toast
April 25th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
to be fair, I remember Maggs as the only clown who supported the Pistons.
April 25th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Nice pun. Apparently I’m the only person whose parents are visiting him tomorrow so I can’t get drunk, and I have to watch TV and make jokes about someone whose name is clown. Awesome.

Just looking at this recap, it wasn’t close.
Detroit can be resilient, and it can still play tremendous defense when it wants … but is Game 3 must-win? Can these old Pistons rally from a 3-1 deficit?
And i was actually referring to the media, which completely bought Flip’s usual regular-season dominance, as if somehow that would translate to postseason wins.
If Flip went to coach the Lakers next year, they’d flop in the postseason.
April 25th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
how is that NOT a flagrant 2 on Dampier? He made no play at the ball and blatantly pushed Paul – lucky thing the guy kept his balance
April 25th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Next time I wanna go see a bunch of old people mail it it, I’ll bring some popcorn & a Coke to the Post Office at 1 in the afternoon.
There are other clowns out here supporting the Pistons (myself for one), and we need to make sure to show up for the eventual burial of the Pistons after Tuesday night’s game, ’cause they’re not winning another game.

Josh Howard smokes weed in the offseason and it’s a story … Carmelo Anthony gets a DUI and
oops, sorry for going there
Took the under 198 on the Spurs/Suns
April 25th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
So the Spurs are playing hack a Shaq. Great, this game should still be going on till about 4am
April 25th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Sure I am a Knicks fan, but doesn’t everything Van Gundy say make perfect sense?
April 25th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
That 198 looking good right now TBL, the game should slow down in the 4th.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Ok Leandro your getting a little carried away now.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
It better … 52 after one quarter was a pace for 208 … it’s still tracking 200 right now. There’s just no way the Spurs can continue to score at this pace. One would hope.
If the Suns lose this, can you use the word gutless? The Rockets won, the 76ers won, the Mavs won … I know the Spurs are the defending champs, but come on …
April 25th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Supposedly, after Game 1 Shaq was in a local SA diner with one of his HS buds and he was saying that the Spurs were in “their” (meaning PHX) heads. He wasn’t even around last year!
April 25th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Maybe I am a little late to the party, but how funny is that NBA “where amazing happens” commercial where there is a split screen of Paul Pierce and Mike Bibby talking about winning a championship. Mike Bibby? Really? It took me 15 seconds to figure out who he was.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
After such an emotional series last year I too expected a lot more fire from the Suns.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Tough matchup for Grant Hill, he couldn’t guard Parker even if he was healthy.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
The Sixers were able to control the tempo almost the entire game. Especially after the halftime score of 44-40. I think the Pistons went almost 10 minutes without hitting a bucket in the 3rd quarter. Sixers ran and ran and the Pistons couldnt get set on defense. That’s what won the game.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Gonzo, did not catch that game. Was Billups a factor at all?
April 25th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Sheed got T-d up as usual. I hate the Overhead Cam Shafts.
April 26th, 2008 at 12:01 am
hill couldn’t check him with a marker
unless the year was 1997
April 26th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Billups was a factor in a bad way. He couldn’t guard Andre Miller and couldn’t hit any shots. I think he was 2 for 10. But the Pistons couldnt do ANYTHING right tonight.
April 26th, 2008 at 12:19 am
haha good point about Hill TBL.
Billups’ playoff aura has lost its luster a little bit every year since they won the title. There is no way Andre Miller should be outplaying him right now, if Billups is into it.
April 26th, 2008 at 12:30 am
its not looking good for the Suns, unless they start defending the pick and roll sometime this year
April 26th, 2008 at 1:10 am
Think about who the Suns have lost over the past few years, Joe Johnson and Shawn Marion. Instead they have Gordon Giriceck and Grant “over the” Hill . Do you think that Suns could have used Marion and Johnson tonight?
April 26th, 2008 at 11:13 am
TBL…betting totals in the NBA playoffs is a losing proposition. Way too unpredcitable, and not trackable at all based on the regular season numbers. And this is coming from someone who had a GREAT year betting totals in the regular season. Stay away from totals in the playoffs.
April 26th, 2008 at 11:28 am
CRM must have had too much PBR last night
April 26th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Imig is on duty today Diesel.
(Giggles because I said “duty”)
April 26th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Besides…I was drinking Utica Club and $1 Budweisers last night. That’s right, when I go out on the town, I’m not afraid to show my money.
April 26th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Everyone is way late to the part on Andre Miller. Think it’s coincidence that he was dealt in a year they were sabotaging the team to make way for LeBron? The guy has been as consistent as it gets over the years, he’s just never been on solid teams. Bill Simmons acts like he just came on this season, when in reality, he’s been doing this exact same thing his entrie career.
His voice is hilarious too. But that’s neither here nor there.
April 26th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
You’re absolutely right cursed. I remember Miller doing all this back on the Cavs in 98. It’s not his fault he’s been cursed with mediocre teams or Carmelo Anthony and Kenyon Martin.
