Top Shelf: You Demand More Mullet, You Get More Mullet
NHL April 26th. 2008, 2:00pmLee Diekemper recaps the NHL…
Barry the Mullet has a few things to say about last night’s games including a potential new nickname for Client No. 16. Props to Pens fans: That was an impressive Penn State whiteout you put together.
Pittsburgh 5, New York: Great game but a really tough loss by the Rangers. The Blue Shirts had a 3-0 lead on the road to open a playoff series and blew it. There was plenty of blame to go around. Hey Tom Renney, you think you might want a shift change after your opponent scores? Evgeni Malkin and Ryan Malone come up big in the third period when the Pens needed help.
Dallas 3, San Jose 2 (OT): The Stars became the first road team in the conference semifinals to rack up a win thanks to Brenden Morrow’s overtime goal, his second of the game. Many road teams would have folded after giving up the tying goal late in regulation. Maybe more impressive is that the Stars had very little offense (a total of x18 shots — including overtime) but still pulled off the road win.

anyone who claims the pens gets the calls needs to watch the rangers second goal, that stick was definitely above four feet (height of the crossbar), the fact that the rangers bench didnt celebrate right when the goal went in is a pretty good indicator everyone knew it was bad. but no toronto had to botch the call.
and straka essentially tried to tackle sidney at the end, why anyone would try to dive and take themselves out of the play on a break at the end of a tied playoff game .. wait that doesnt happen because these guys arent stupid
the rangers blew it huuuuge

Moleman. Toronto botched the call for the Kovalev goal the other night as well. Same exact situation. His stick never went below the crossbar because his follow through made his stick land ON TOP of the crossbar. Luckily your team prevailed.

I’m sure straka “tackled” crosby. Crosby is a joke. He falls in the second and Gomez gets a ridiculous tripping penalty. Straka nudges him and he falls down. I wish Mario would step in and tell the kid to stop diving. He doesn’t need to do it. He’s way too good to be pulling this crap and then telling the media “I never dive. I have never dove in my life.” Stupid.
That being said the Rangers still didn’t deserve to win that game after the pathetic 2nd and 3rd they played. Malkin looked unstoppable last night. The Drury goal was questionable, but in the end it didn’t matter anyway.
Rangers are in huge trouble.

he didnt fall down, one knee hit the ice and he kept going, but it took him out of the play
sorry but interference is a penalty

oh and for rangers fans to bitch about calls like this that dont get called a few years ago, thank brendan shannahan, hes the one who got the ball rolling on the committee that led to the changes in officiating that got rid of the clutching and grabbing. you bitch the league about there not being open play and they need to change the rules, then you come out and bitch about the calls being too harsh, youre a bag of shit shanny

also to blame was the officiating that let malkin and crosby both be wide open on that power play, the officiating that let jarko ruutu get around your defense, the officiating that led rozival score and own goal, the officiating that let jagr miss an open net at the end. fucking officials man

Apparently Rangers fans are the east coast version of Red Wings fans: nothing is ever their team’s fault

http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip48905#clip48905 its about at the 1:52 mark or so
in no world is that call close to the blown high sticking call (which isnt the on ice crew’s fault, that shit is absurd to make on the fly). overall it was a well officiated game, they kept the whistles out of it

Moleman. i gotta say that penalty was weak.

I just said the Rangers didn’t deserve to win. No? They played awful in their own zone. I take nothing away from the Pens but I’m sick of this Crosby doesn’t dive crap. He does. He gets way with it. He’s a great great player that emebllishes calls. I wish he wouldn’t do it. I have much more respect for guys like Malkin who don’t pull that stuff.
I have no problem calling interference late in the game. Call it, its fine, but to not call the interference early in the 3rd on both teams and then call that late in a tie game is pretty bogus.
And if crosby doesn’t embellish please explain this video.

I’ll say it again, the Pens outplayed and outcoached the Rangers last night.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
the actual call may have been weak, an interference call at that point of the game is pretty much going to be weak. but he interfered with him, and he didnt dive
April 26th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
i dont think he dives, but he does embellish, everyone embellishes. and lemieux actually did talk to him about it at one point i believe, and he has toned it down drastically
what the fuck was his injury doing in that video aside from showing that the maker and poster are douchebags? surely it couldnt have been the argument that he was looking at the ref instead of the boards to protect himself, because the replays clearly showed that he was looking at the net and had tried to get a stick back on the goal. and SURELY it couldnt be to say he embellished the injury BECAUSE HE WAS OUT FOR EIGHT FUCKING WEEKS

Mole, your photo link doesn’t work.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
hm, sorry, its on the front page of the post gazette here
April 26th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
oh and to clarify i think theres a huge difference between diving and embellishing.
diving = going down when there is no infraction
embellishing = making an infraction more obvious
fwiw i dont remember sid ever getting called for embellishment, however i know malkin did i think twice this season (i think three is a one game suspension)
i have ZERO problem with anyone in the league embellishing a high stick by snapping their neck, its one of the hardest penalties to catch at speed and is outside of boarding the most dangerous one (like when ranger smack sid in the face with his stick when he was on the ice last night and it didnt get called, thank god he wears a visor)
most of these guys are strong enough skaters that they need to embellish in some cases, if they do it too much, they get called for it. sid did not embellish the call last night

OK I guess the Post Gazette is having problems. I tried to go to their site via Google and there is still a problem. Are you saying you could have been at the game? Or were you in the shitter when they took a photo of your group?
April 26th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
hahahaha nah its jagr looking sad in front of the pens celebrating
April 26th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
I’m just asking because I’ve never gotten a straight answer, but why do Pens fans hate Jagr? I’m not trying to be a jerk, I really don’t know. I mean the guy was a pretty huge part of two cups.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
understandable
he forced the owners hands to trade him, his gambling debts were a huge part of it, they couldnt afford to pay him what he needed essentially. but when they did trade him he came out in his presser with the caps and said he wanted to show that patrick made a mistake trading him, when he ASKED to be traded
also he can really disappear, when he cares he is borderline unstoppable, but sometimes he just doesnt give a shit
