Yardwork: the Odds of an Affair
Baseball April 29th. 2008, 10:35am
A’s 14, Angels 2: Well this was a beatdown, thanks in part to a late night Angels flight from Detroit back home, and an EIGHT spot in the 7th inning. Angels reliever Chris Bootcheck gave up 7 in 2/3 inning.
Odds Bootcheck had a Post-Game Affair: 7% (sympathy vote from the hot ladies’ fat friends at the hotel bar)
D-Backs 5, Astros 3: Mark Reynolds had two RBI and Dan Haren went 7 2/3 strong, moving to 4-1.
Odds Haren had a Post-Game Affair: 35% (The choice for Danny is between the lady and the bong. Very few ladies at the bar are down for some ganj).
Reds 4, Cardinals 3: Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and two RBI and Bronson Arroyo gave up three runs in six innings to get win number one.
Odds Arroyo had a Post-Game Affair: 80% (A mere “quality start” isn’t that impressive to the women, but once Bronson starts playing his music in the lobby, women will flock to him just to shut him up).
Yankees 5, Indians 2: Hideki Matsui had two RBI and Mariano Rivera threw a perfect 9th inning to earn his eighth save.
Odds Rivera had a Post-Game Affair: 50% (Safe to say Mariano’s reputation of pitching with sudden movement and velocity isn’t for everyone. Some like it hard and down the middle, some don’t.
Giants 4, Rockies 0: Brian Wilson struck out the side in the ninth, and Aaron Rowand had two RBI and reached base three times.
Odds Rowand had a Post-Game Affair: 70% (Star of the game + $9.6 million in ‘08 = better than average chance. Only negative is that he’s scored just seven times this year).

Someone check the whereabouts of Bindi Irwin.

I don’t understand how at least once a year, usually twice, the Cardinals make Bronson Arroyo look like a GD cy young winner. Dude comes into the game with an 0-3 record and an era somewhere around 6.00 and pretty much dominated the Cards for 6 or 7 innings.

Ark, the Brewers always get dominated by rookies making their first career starts. it’s very frustrating.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Another thing the Cardinals are good at. Making Dusty Baker look like a damn genius. Couldn’t beat him when he was with the Cubs, even when the Cubs suck, now it moves on to Cincy. What the HELL????
April 29th, 2008 at 10:48 am
I think every fan thinks their team is the one that lets rookies dominate them. I personally think that the Twins launched the career of Carmona last year.

Arroyo’s numbers are misleading because all but 2 of his starts have been at home — one of the worst pitcher’s parks in baseball.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:50 am
I think your problems start with you root for the Cardinals, Brewers, and Twins. If you weren’t rooting for junk, you wouldn’t be getting junk.
and right now I hate J.J. Hardy from the Brewers.

The Dbacks launched Johnny Cueto’s career. And now look. He’s come crashing back down.

You’ve been going to the wrong bars my friend!
hmmm, or maybe I’ve been going to the wrong bars…. I’m blowin my own mind!

benji, I understand. The thing about a rookie is that at least you don’t usually know what to expect. With Arroyo you know exactly what is coming. Breaking ball, Breaking ball, “fast” ball, breaking ball, breaking ball. Yet for some reason the Cards can’t figure it out.

@pki, the Brewers don’t get dominated by rookies. it’s just the first career start guys. OBVS, they are rookies, but it’s just the first time. even guys with crappy minor league numbers making spot starts. then they could come back and crush the ace the next day.
@phatjohnsn: JJ Hardy is getting fucked over with the pitcher batting behind him in the 8 spot. he doesn’t see shit for pitches. and who do you root for?
April 29th, 2008 at 10:54 am
@pkiguy –
It wasn’t just the Twins that launched the Fautastic one last year. Several more teams felt your vibe too…
April 29th, 2008 at 10:54 am
@ark, good point. but it is frustrating.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:58 am
@Wally: True, but we started the trend.
/searches frantically on MLB.com for Fausto’s starts to back up a ridiculous statement

Pirates did well – Santana had an no decision last night against them.
Wait – what do you mean it rained?
April 29th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Although it rained, the rest of the season for the Pirates season can somewhat be considered a success since they finally got rid of Matt Morris.
April 29th, 2008 at 11:18 am
OK, no one’s gonna touch that one? Or did you leave it up to me to close the deal? ok ok. You guys are too nice.
Some like it hard and down the middle
That’s what she said.
BAM!!!

I’ll throw the White Sox hat into the ring of ‘unheard of assclown rookie dominates entire line-up’ discussion. It seems that, at least for the White Sox, it would be easier to face an ace they’ve seen a few times than some decent rookie call-up.
April 29th, 2008 at 11:22 am
@ark- Unfortunately, the Cardinals have had a bad habit of making mediocre/struggling/young pitchers look really good over the last several years.
@benji- I’m thinking he’s either a Yankee$ or Sawx fan. There’s something about his statement that reeks of smugness.
April 29th, 2008 at 11:30 am
From this morning’s Joe Chat.
He’s back!
April 29th, 2008 at 11:33 am
@Bruce, tell me about it. It almost pisses me off that the Cardinals are on TV everyday here, therefore I find it necessary to watch them on a daily basis.
April 29th, 2008 at 11:34 am
@nick: FJM must be turning cartwheels.
April 29th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Nick, awesome find. FJM is the Bible of bad journalists.
