Wow. That’s really startling.
Leitch was clearly unprepared for this, too. Totally ambushed.
Anyway, “Buzz” is what happens when you combine immeasurable arrogance and a mile-wide generational gap of understanding. These guys have no clue what sites like Deadspin, TBL, and others are really about.
Maybe that’s apparent to the average HBO viewer, but maybe not. It doesn’t really matter in the end anyway. Blogs aren’t going away.

This is now the second time I’ve seen this. Costas just comes off as a sniveling jerk. He didn’t used to be this way.

Will knew what was coming – meaning he was prepared for everyone to be against blogs – but what he couldn’t have been prepared for was the way in which Bissinger delivered his message. If you’re on a panel discussion you would at least expect it to start out as a discussion. Buzz just started in so violently and didn’t let up. What an asshole.

This was a good reminder to me. You can like an artist’s work without like the artist.
Buzz is a complete asshole. What is he so scared of? Is there some kind of danger with having people write pithy comments on the Web about sports? What about pithy comments about senior citizen Viagra popping has beens with dumb ass names like Buzz?

TBL – I have to admit that I grow tired of how in every interview you do, you have to whine about newspapers vs. blogs. That said, I can’t believe how Buzz and Costas are up in arms about this. I can only hope that I don’t act like an old crank in 30 years.
And did Costas try to equate Leitch’s work to going through someone’s garbage? Finally, good to see Buzz doing the “Fox News” approach to a panel discussion.

I can’t believe that 10 years ago Costas was doing the NBA Finals, the Olympics, the World Series – he was everywhere. Then NBC jettisoned everything but the Kentucky Derby and he fell off the map. Now all we get from him is whining about MLB expanding the playoffs to include a wild card, interleague play, and now blogs. Hate Joe Buck all you want, but at least he isn’t a stodgy old man who wants baseball (and media) to go back to the 1920s.

One of the problems is that there is no ‘comment’ section in a printed newspaper. Millions of people will read an article about Salisbury leaving ESPN and say to themselves, something along the lines of, “Good luck managing a Denny’s, douchebag!” to anyone around after the reader has finished the article. Now, when it is read online instead of a newspaper, they can type that same sentiment and it goes to millions, instead of only the people within earshot. No difference in sentiment, only in audience.
I also love the entire schtick of the cursing buffoon that adds nothing railing against those that swear and add nothing. Douchebag!

buzz bissinger came off as a jealous, aging newspaper writer who thinks he will be replaced by a blogger and thus hates them. he also came off as someone that would argue with you all day even though he had no valid points. he would just keep getting louder and cut you off by yelling. what an ass. he looked real quick on his feet.

And why are people like Buzz equating the comment section solely to blogs? Guess what? Newspapers are going online, and most of them allow for comments on articles or commentaries. And what about ESPN Conversation? That is used just about everywhere on the .com (with the exception of Simmons, smart move there).
