The Roundup: Kobe Finally Wins MVP
College Football, Horse Racing, NASCAR, NBA, NFL, Soccer May 7th. 2008, 8:00am
This is the tame version of indie actress and complete badass Shannon Sossamon. The NSFW version (no clothes, but all covered up; tastefully done) is after the jump … sorry, we completely spaced on the music post yesterday, but it’s coming this afternoon … that’s quite a drug bust for a college campus … this guy won’t be getting an NFL opportunity anytime soon … Florida has so many brilliant criminals … how can this guy get elected? … political recap coming …
Euro 2008 and damage control. (Beautiful Game)
We temporarily lift our list embargo because Euro 2008 is just a month away. (LA Times)
Comparing Danica Patrick and Ashley Force. (SI)
Kobe’s your 2008 MVP, so rant away, folks. (Sports Underground)
Peeking at the men’s basketball academic progress report. (Rush the Court)
One week into the new job, that’s a helluva arrest. (AJC)
Two weeks old, but somebody’s making an argument that with Big Brown using steroids, perhaps Eight Belles overworked herself in an effort to win, and that’s why she died. (NY Daily News)
Raptors lose play-by-play man to the Bulls. (Star)
Bears part with Adam Archuleta, which also means no more Jennifer Walcott. (Docksquad)

Not sure if anyone is listening, but Antonio Pierce of the NY Giants is Howard Stern’s “intern for the day,” and he’s a pretty cool cat.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:22 am
listening now pretty funny TBL

May 7th, 2008 at 8:28 am
At first glance, I thought it was an old pic of Lisa Bonet.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:32 am

May 7th, 2008 at 8:33 am
Finally found a college basketball list in which PSU is in the Top 20.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:35 am
I thought it was Helena Bonham Carter. But i like this girl. she looks like fun.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Ashley Force > Danica Patrick
May 7th, 2008 at 8:44 am
One of my balls is bigger than this chick.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:46 am
You might want to get that checked out.
/Lance Armstrong
May 7th, 2008 at 8:47 am
I love me some more, more, more Ashley Force. My new life goal is to be her personal assistant (playing first base for the Yankees is so yesterday). TBL — can you do an interview with her? Pretty please?
May 7th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Am I the only one who thinks the APR is B.S. So if you have good players that leave early then you eventually lose scholarships? And how UMD hasn’t lost a scholarship yet is beyond me. The NCAA is complicit in marketing the Mayo’s and Roses of the world then punishes the school for allowing them to play?
May 7th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Joe Hamilton is f*cked son!
May 7th, 2008 at 8:50 am
hey, were better than Michigan. I like it!
May 7th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Kobe > Lebron. Debate over
May 7th, 2008 at 8:57 am
irish…THIS IS FAR FROM OVER!!!!!!
May 7th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Did the yearly frat dues go to reinforcing security to make sure raids like this didn’t happen?
May 7th, 2008 at 8:59 am
i propose a two-year moratorium on all lebron/kobe and lebron/MJ comparisons. i don’t know for a fact, but i would be completely shocked if kobe or MJ ever had a playoff game like lebron’s last night. that was embarassing.
that said, nice holding lebron to the shittiest performance of his career and winning by two points….at home. go cavs!
May 7th, 2008 at 9:00 am
@Sterlin – everyone needs to follow UGA’s lead with the asst. coaches offering “Basketball Theory” classes to move those students through! They ranked pretty high on the list…must be working.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:00 am
@SterlinSharpe
You are not alone in your assessment. Tennessee has dismissed 3 players from their men’s bball team in the past calendar year for multiple drug/violation of team rules offenses but just so happened to graduate three seniors this season. The NCAA reprimands programs for doing the right thing?
On the other side of the state, Memphis has some stand-out players testing (maybe already declared) the NBA draft in Rose and Douglas-Roberts. The NCAA has no problem using them to market games but will reprimand Memphis because the two will be drafted and start earning more in their first month than I have in the two years since I graduated from Memphis with my M.S.
Its doubly, double-standarded.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:01 am
are we so quick to forget lebrons game 5 last season against the pistons? wasnt that one of the best individual playoff performances of all time
i agree with you rumeal that u cant compare lebron to mj until he at least wins a championship…really cant compare anyone to MJ until their careers are over
May 7th, 2008 at 9:05 am
mmonast…I am not going to close the book on Lebron..but last night was a fucking embarrassment. No one that good should show up that small in the playoffs.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:12 am
oh trust me i will agree 100% he was absolutely terrible…the missed shots ok that happens but the 10 turnovers is what in my mind really killed us.
if someone would tell you before that game that ray allen paul peirce and lebron would combine for 4 4gs made and 20 turnovers and ray would be scoreless you would check that person into an insane asylum
May 7th, 2008 at 9:13 am
The NBA ruled that Billups third quarter shot should not have counted. It didnt decide the outcome of the game imo, but the refs fucked up.
Steve Javey is a douche
May 7th, 2008 at 9:15 am
big momentum swing on that play…while it didnt affect the game in terms of final score i think it had to hurt the magic players knowing the just got jobbed…
u guys gonna defend home court irish? need you guys to rip off 4 in a row for my magic in 6 call
May 7th, 2008 at 9:20 am
@spence: Saw what you wrote in the other thread. That make-up girl was increeeedible. Great tits.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:21 am
@mmonasty- it would be nice
May 7th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Darrion Scott is am asshole
May 7th, 2008 at 9:24 am
@spence/nick p: what makeup girl? i want to see great tits.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Nick…yea, she’s smokin. they shoulda just kept the camera on her the whole time.
i got work all morning so i cant bitch and moan in ballin so ill just say it now…KG had a good night, but he was still invisible. LBJ had an awful night, but so did PP and Ray. it’s gonna be a close series.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:25 am
i don’t even remember last year’s game 5 because immediately following the game, i banged my head into the wall until i was in a coma. so all i remember is sasha pavlovic bailing them out.
thank god the clock operator in detroit was from minnesota. if that guy was a “homer”, orlando would be rioting right now. maybe it was craig monroe.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:25 am
benji…she was on Mike and Mike this morning.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:26 am
Just wondering….would Kobe have gotten the MVP this year even if the Gasol trade never went down?
Also, debates over whether Kobe is the best individual basketball player on the planet is one thing; debates over who was the most valuable player on a team is another.
I guess I’ll look forward to Chris Paul getting a makeup MVP award at some point in the future in a year when he may not totally deserve it.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:28 am
@john: No. There’s no way the Lakers finish in the top 3 seeds in the West without Gasol.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:29 am
@Johndewars- why do people have to play the “what if” game all the time?
Put Kobe in the Eastern Conference and see what he would do. Kobe said the same thing himself in a interview.
Dont you remember NO having the conference lead at the end, but losing games down the stretch while Kobe and his gang were still winning ball games.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:30 am
spencer, do you have an approx time? i’ve got a boring morning. is she worth looking up on Red Lasso?
May 7th, 2008 at 9:33 am
The APR is great!
/Duke fan that doesn’t have to worry about that shit because Coach K is racist
May 7th, 2008 at 9:34 am
benji…id have to say it was around 7 am…so an hour in? thats approximate. she’s worth red lasso’ing i guess, shes definitely smokin’ but she was only on for all of 10 seconds so…
May 7th, 2008 at 9:35 am
oh, and im a mmassive shannon sossamon fan even tho i didnt know her name until just now.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:35 am
They brought her back a second time, around 7:15-7:20, but briefly.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:35 am
That’s probably the lady woody paige assaulted.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:36 am
why is Kobe hated so much? i have never seen such a great basketball player get doubted so much year in, year out.
Did you hear Kobes press conference? he said if it was about his individual performance, he should of won it back when he was averaging 40 points. Kobe is a great all around basketball player. Both ends of the court.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:38 am
benji…if he assaulted her, he picked one helluva target. id carpet bomb her sweater cows.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:39 am
were you guys watching on ESPN 2 or ESPNRadio.com?
May 7th, 2008 at 9:42 am
espn2
May 7th, 2008 at 9:43 am
@irish: Arguing what-ifs is not a negative exercise. And I’m not arguing about whether Kobe is the best player on the planet individually. He is. He might even deserve the MVP, if for no other reason, than a lifetime acheivement type MVP. But you have to admit that the acquisition of Gasol had a very positive impact on the Lakers, in a very competitive Western Conference.
As for what Kobe would do in the East, that’s irrelevant, because if he’s made one thing clear in his career (remember where he was drafted?), it’s that he wanted to be in L.A from the jump.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:44 am
irish…i dunno why a lot of people hate kobe, and while i respect his game immensely, his personality on and off the court disgusts me. he is a petulant, spoiled athlete with a ego for two and i just don’t like it. there’s something about the way he talks that seems like hes putting on an act and is condescending and just, overall, lacking integrity.
like his press conference yesterday, he’s laughing and acting like a good teammate…but wait, didnt he just throw bynum under the bus last summer and act like a total BITCH for a year and a half when he wasnt getting his way? why wasnt he joking around with luke walton and odom last year?
again, as a player, he is with few peers, but as a figure, i just can’t root for a guy like that. it’s the same way i feel about roger clemens, how they act in front of the camera just feels fake, like they’re doing some great service to us all by showing up to entertain us.
kobe’s a great, GREAT player, but he can go fuck himself.
then again, for all i know, he could be a totally cool guy off the court.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Sue the Make Up Girl. nice find Spencer and Nick P.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:52 am
funny thing was, i was listening to them on the radio on my way home from working out and they mentioned her, and for some reason i figured a makeup chick who works for the 5am ESPN shows was probably a nasty old woman.
boy how my expectations were shattered.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:53 am
Didnt Lebron openly show up his coach a couple times by sulking on the bench? He seems to have the same inflated ego Kobe, MJ, et. all have/had. It what seperates them from the very good players.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:53 am
Sue the Make Up Girl > the tatted-up waif in the round-up
Very, very nice…
May 7th, 2008 at 9:53 am
whoa very nice indeed
May 7th, 2008 at 9:54 am
regular girls are so much hotter than models/celebs
May 7th, 2008 at 9:55 am
@Johndewars- i agree with you that the trade had a positive impact on the Lakers, no doubt about that. Kobe deserved the MVP this year more than any other player in the league. Yeah Chris Paul did his thing this year. But did he do enough to bring it home at the end of the regular season in the West, no. Kobe did though and you know that made the voters think
May 7th, 2008 at 9:55 am
Red Lasso is awesome. i just wish they had more networks. but i agree with Greenberg, they should just put the camera on her during the show. Who wants to see a panzi and a fat guy for 4 hours?
May 7th, 2008 at 9:55 am
Official TBL Press Release:
After last night’s abortion of a game, Ballin has been moved to oprah.com until further notice.
That is all.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:57 am
@hef- Ballin will never be at oprah.com. Your new blog with Nick P deserves to be at oprah.com
burn baby burn
May 7th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Re: Sue the make-up girl – Check out the funbags on that hosehound
May 7th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Sue the makeup girl, damn right.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:59 am
It’s not just Nick anymore Irish. And we got an offer from oprah, but we’re holding out for more money. And we want to be wooed.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:04 am
@Hef: We might need to try to score the exclusive interview with Sue before TBL flexes his muscles (literally and figuratively…mostly literally) and steals her from us.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I’m on it. I’ll just have my wife/secretary call up the pretty girl with the big jugs.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:12 am
OK – how long until Sue’s in Maxim or similar? I’m giving it 4 months.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:13 am
@hef- one suggestion, change the name of your blog. there is no way that can be said on TV. Like TBL, its clean and can be said on Sportscenter and USA Today and all that good stuff.
i am a nobody, dont listen to me. just a thought
May 7th, 2008 at 10:14 am
I don’t think I’ll be going national anytime soon Irish. But thanks. Major League Jerk doesn’t sound as good, does it?
May 7th, 2008 at 10:15 am
@hef- you never know, just saying.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:16 am
how about Major League Jerkface?
May 7th, 2008 at 10:16 am
Thanks irish. If you knew anything about baseball I’d send you an invite to write a post. Also, you’re a dodgers fan so…
May 7th, 2008 at 10:16 am
@clown: I like it. Summon the league at once. We need a quorum.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:22 am
Hef – The jerk store called…
May 7th, 2008 at 10:26 am
Well I had sex with your wife!
/go to line
May 7th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Hef…as a new contributor (PLUG!!!!!) I do like the name but my wife cringed when I mentioned it last night. And I have heard complaints about acessing it at work where all 12 of our readers are going to read this thing…I do like Major League Jerkface.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:34 am
I am up for whatever name. When is the meeting when we discuss salary/benefits?
May 7th, 2008 at 10:47 am
I will consider the matter and get back to you all via email.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:49 am
@hef: Why not see if The Jerk Store is available? or something similar.
/lowly foot soldier with no power whatsoever
May 7th, 2008 at 10:53 am
You think Greenie is popping wood during his hour long make up application with Sue every morning?
May 7th, 2008 at 10:54 am
@diesel: Interesting. You’re assuming he’s straight?
May 7th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Very good point. He is married, though that may just be a cover up for his gayness.
May 7th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
why do people hate kobe? maybe its because of him calling out his teammates in public and throwing them under the bus, demanding trades, a rape allegation that just kinda went away with the purchase of a rock and some cash transferred, or the running of shaq out of town.
just a thought.
