Yardwork: FIGHT!
Baseball May 9th. 2008, 9:45am
Rangers 5, Mariners 0: Richie Sexson was hit by a pitch (read: the ball didn’t hit him and wasn’t even close to doing so) on a day when his team failed to score a run, so he felt compelled to brawl. Safe to say he was frustrated, perhaps because he’s not earning his pay. You can view the video right here. Rangers announcer Tom Grieve drops the quote of the night in the first 21 seconds.
Diamondbacks 8, Phillies 3: Brandon Webb was the story again. He moved to 8-0 thanks to a complete game six-hitter and failed to walk anyone. Chris Snyder and Chris Young each had two RBI.
White Sox 6, Twins 2: John Danks got win #3 (at the ripe age of 23, no less). The Sox sported pink facial hair in honor of breast cancer awareness – and in an odd way, Nick Swisher.
Rays 8, Jays 3: Dioner Navarro was 3-for-6 with a homer and four RBI. He’s hitting .368 and his mother was a huge Dionne Warwick fan.
Yankees 6, Indians 3: The Yanks combined for four home runs, prompting AP writer Ben Walker to note in the game recap, “Jason Giambi and the sluggish New York Yankees suddenly turned sluggerish.” Exactly.

Thanks Felix. Way to get lit again, you sunt bucket.
May 9th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Great to see a White Sox post. They will be fighting for that division all season. Only time before the bats heat up. A huge 10-game road trip coming up for them.
May 9th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Swisher is single-handedly killing my team BA. He had 2 chances yesterday to drive in some runs (one with the bases loaded) and he struck out both times.
May 9th, 2008 at 9:51 am
Richie Sexson is a bitch. The pitch wasn’t even close to him and then he hurls his helmet like a little bitch before fighting.
May 9th, 2008 at 9:52 am
when does cliff lee start again?
May 9th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Imig, awesome video there of Sexson. He truly is a bitch. I also like, “If tha pitch was 2 feet lower, it woulda been a strike”.
May 9th, 2008 at 9:59 am
I am amazed some pitcher doesn’t Kermit Washington some batter who charges the mound…especially when you are a 6-7 useless first baseman who can’t even slug much anymore…they all go into the defensive croutch…fucking time the charge and lay the bitch out…we will see how many dickfaces charge the mound after that…Rule on that Bob Watson.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:01 am
Nothing to argue with there.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Sexton’s helmet throw was definitely Kevin Spacey gay… he was just begging to rush the mound after the earlier dust-up (King Felix popped a batter and after that everybody knew retaliation was coming at some point).
May 9th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Bob Gibson, Bob Feller or Nolan Ryan would beaten the fuck out of Sexson if he tried that shit against them.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Sexson called the helmet throwing “chicken shit” in an interview after the game. He said something like, “I knew he was going to throw at me, and I didn’t care, as long as he kept it down.”

Dear Kyle Lohse,
I remember when you were with the Twins, and I’m pretty sure you sucked. Then you came to the NL and played for the Reds and the Phillies so I could actually watch you play and remember how much you really do suck. Then the Cards pick you up and I have to watch you suck every 5 games. If you ever have a season where your ERA is below 4.00 let me know. I don’t expect to be hearing from you anytime in the near (ever) future. Oh, did I mention I think you suck? Thanks for nothing pecker wood.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:13 am
P.S. I just looked up your profile, and you went to a school called Butt(e) community college, no wonder you suck. I hope you graduated with that 2 year Associates degree, at least you will have that job down at the paint store to fall back on once your pitiful MLB career finally ends.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:13 am
@ark – Just wait until Lohse gets pissy with the manager and takes a bat to his office door.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:13 am
What the hell happened to Richie Sexson? I hate to pin the “steroids” tag on any slugger that suffered a precipitous fall in power production in the last 7-8 years, but how else do you explain it? He was a monster in Milwaukee and has absolutely stunk in Seattle…
May 9th, 2008 at 10:13 am
Filling the large shoes of Paul Sorrento clearly has to be on Sexson’s mind.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:14 am
@ arkbadger
Kyle Lohse is this year’s Kip Wells then, I guess?
May 9th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Never mind, I just looked up Sexson’s stats, and they haven’t been that bad in Seattle. I guess perception is much different than reality.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:16 am
When Farnsworth was with the Cubs, didn’t some Reds player start to charge the mound and Farnsworth picked him up WWE style and slammed him into the ground?
May 9th, 2008 at 10:17 am
@Hawkeye. Hopefully when that happens La Russa is drunk and smashed an empty whiskey bottle on his head.
@August. Thanks for kicking me when I am down and pouring salt into the open wound. Oh yeah, we also have Todd Wellemeyer going on the bump for us tonight. That’s right, he is the guy who got cut by the fucking Royals last year.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:18 am
@ben, that was actualy their pitcher who charged the mound, and i think Farnsworth gave him a bloody nose.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:19 am
a player coming from the NL who sucks in the AL? THAT’S JUST CRAZY AND TOTALLY UNHEARD OF.
AL > NL
May 9th, 2008 at 10:22 am
@spencer, Barry Zito would like a word with you about that.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:22 am
@ ark
Well, my Astros went down that road with Woody Williams… oh yeah, you guys did that too.
Sorry man, I’ll back off.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:23 am
@atl: Remember that Safeco is a big pitcher’s park and is particularly brutal to right handers. That said, the dude is done. His K% has shot up, which means he’s probably not able to hit pitches he used to. He’ll be a mistake hitter only for the rest of his career, imo.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:23 am
Pretty sure it is more about Steroids
May 9th, 2008 at 10:24 am
damn I wish the catcher would have been BJ Penn. He was in prime position for a rear naked choke….
May 9th, 2008 at 10:24 am
@spence: He had his best year ever his first season in Seattle.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:26 am
Here’s a good post about it I read a few weeks ago, if anyone cares. Probably no one does, but F it.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:29 am
I flipped to the Yankee game when the Celts-Cavs game was in commercial. It was right after Giambi hit his HR, and they put up a great state. Of his 14 hits this year, 6 have been homers. When he’s up the defense could just lie down and rest.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:29 am
*stat, not state
May 9th, 2008 at 10:29 am
@August. I don’t have as much pent up anger against sir Woody. He at least had a couple of decent years for the Cardinals. And he always reminided me of the milfhunter off the internet. He gets a pass from me because of that.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:30 am
speaking of farnsworth. did a ruling come out about his pitch that didn’t hit manny? like Jeter said, “the ones that miss you, don’t hurt.”
May 9th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Nick…really? well fuck me then.
AL is still > NL
May 9th, 2008 at 10:32 am
I think that’s over-simplifying things a bit, no?
May 9th, 2008 at 10:34 am
atl…well, of course it is, but since when did that ever stop me before?
May 9th, 2008 at 10:34 am
good call Ark… he does look like milfhunter’s gangly brother
May 9th, 2008 at 10:35 am
I’m still waiting for a constitutional amendment against the designated hitter.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:38 am
@August – get TBL to put that into the Commenters’ BOR…that’s the best we can do.
And yeah, the milfhunter resemblance is uncanny. At least someone told me that…I’ve never seen milfhunter. I don’t even really know what it is. A friend of mine, a guy from like Canada or something, that you’ve never met, is the one that told me.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:38 am
@Spencer – ha ha…true. I do agree, by the way, that AL is overall better than NL. I don’t think there’s much argument there.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Im waiting for an amendment that requires the NL to join modern baseball and adopt one themselves.
if im paying good money to watch a team play, i better not have to see some pitcher flail his arms around for 3 pitches just to end an inning.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:39 am
In three full seasons with Milwaukee (’01-’03), he hit 45-29-45 HR, drove in 125-102-104, and had an average around .275.
In his first two full season in Seattle (’05-’06), he hit 39-34 HR, drove in 121-107, and had an average around .263.
His best times were definitely in Milwaukee, though his first couple of years in Seattle definitely did not suck. Needless to say, ‘07 and this far into ‘08 have sucked fat donkey cock.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:41 am
+1 atl.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Yes.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:42 am
i remember when Sexson was on the D Backs watching hit a homerun off the jumbo tron. seemed like a 500 ft shot.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:44 am
His best OPS+ year was in Seattle, Ben.
You have to consider park effects when you look at both rate & counting stats.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Thank you Nick, I didn’t dig that deep, just saw the totals and thought I’d throw them up here.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:52 am
apencer equated the NFL to Schindler’s List and Baseball to Commando…that gives you the train of thought on Baseball…The first time I ever heard the theory that football was the thinking man’s game…this theory was first relayed to him by a guy who wore an Orange Hardhat a dog mask and a dog bone on a chain around his neck
May 9th, 2008 at 10:54 am
Paul Wilson. Farnsworth threw inside and Wilson started yapping at him while stepping towards the mound. The Farns decided that was all he needed so he charged and speared his ass to the ground. He got about 4 good shots to his face before he was pulled off.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Dad?
@jewbacca: I’ve ran through season 1 of “It’s always sunny…”
Hulu doesn’t have season 2. I don’t want to skip ahead to season 3. Where can I found season 2? Keep in mind, I don’t want to pay for anything.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:57 am
@RWH: fucking browns fans
May 9th, 2008 at 10:59 am
@RWH. Anything that references Commando or Rambo is ok in my book.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:59 am
@nick P: Season 2. i’m not sure if they are all there though. i thought there was 6 episodes in S1 then 12 in S2. I would go back to Hulu for S3. Much better quality.
May 9th, 2008 at 11:00 am
@benji: You da man
May 9th, 2008 at 11:22 am
@benji & nick p: there’s 10 episodes in season 2.
May 9th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Nick, mininova.org has the torrents if you like breaking copious copyright laws.

I’ve watched just about every game Richie Sexson has played in the last 3 years, and trust me… here is Seattle there is a countdown to the day his contract expires. I’m usually the first one to say something negative about Richie, but I’m not doing it this time. If you watched the game, you KNEW they were going to throw at him. Richie went up there knowing that they were probably going to throw at him, and probably decided before the fact that if there was anything questionable he was charging the mound. Especially since it was up. Laird is really the one who he should have gone after since he gave Gabbard the “go up and in” on him sign three times, but RIchie had no way of knowing that. Poor Gabbard obviously didn’t want to do it.
May 9th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
outofbounds, I’m a little confused. So Richie knew he was going to get thrown at, the pitch was nowhere near hitting him and therefore he was obliged to charge the mound after that one, because he just kneeeew the next one was coming for him? Tom Grieve is right, 1 or 2 feet lower and that’s a strike, there’s no excuse to charge a mound and throw a helmet until that pitch comes inside or actually hits you. In closing, Sexson is a bitch.
May 9th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
@out of bounds. That expiring contract may be worth something to a team like the Royals.

Is there a copy of the video that HASN’T been taken down by the fags at MLB?
