The Terps have missed the NCAA tournament three of the past four seasons. How can coach Gary Williams bring Maryland back to the days of Bias, Mustaf, the Wizard and Chris Wilcox? By signing a 23-year-old kid who was recently sentenced to a year in jail (but had 11 months suspended and only served two weeks). And it appears as if Williams kept his athletic director in the dark about jail-time. Oops! The recruit’s name is Tyree Evans, and he’s long been a promising recruit – Bob Huggins signed him about five years ago – but he’s also an terrible academic risk. And there’s the whole criminal thing (charged with statutory rape and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, both of which were plead down to misdemeanors). Poor Gary. The pressure to compete has him stooping this low. Even Terps fans are questioning him. Sad.

Maryland takes a risk on a talented player with troubled past (SI via Can’t Stop the Bleeding)
