Getting Mouthy with Trey Wingo
Media Gossip/Musings, NFL, Video May 14th. 2008, 11:31amNice find by NFL Rumors - watch as mouthy Mike Felger of the Boston Herald gets all combative with Trey Wingo of ESPN. We’ll give Felger this - he’s in a tough spot because at the time of this interview, it appeared as if his paper got a major portion of the Walsh/Spygate story wrong. (Early this morning, the Herald admitted their error and apologized.) But Felger’s high and mighty act was slightly embarrassing. You’re a columnist. You give your opinion on everything. Anytime you go on the radio or TV, you’re representing your paper. Why the tough-guy act here?

Don’t mess with Trey Wingo, or he might mess with you back

So why is this guy a guest on the show? He didn’t write the story and doesn’t want to comment on it. Great booking.

three straight espn posts and still no hockey
someone is a perfect fit for bristols douchebaggery

I find it funny that TBL has LOST his interest in SpayGate and then posts twice about it… you should “lose your interest” in something like Michigan football or something.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:47 am
yeah but their would still be nothing to post…

Not trying to hockey bash because you die hards are real sensitive to that, but these lopsided series aren’t helping the NHL’s cause.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:49 am
i don’t know if i agree with that.
to suggest he is representing to paper is to infer he is the spokesperson of the paper or ombudsman.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:55 am
He works for the Herald, when he is on TV he is identified as working for the paper, he is definitely representing the paper.
I’m representing the company I work for, I don’t have to be the CEO to still be representing them.

No disagreement there. I haven’t been able to pay real close attention since the first round and I am a die-hard. Hopefully the finals are better. Only the Sharks-Stars 4OT game a week or so ago (that lasted until 12 Pacific time, so no one saw it) has saved the playoffs for me

@Jimmy - I’d agree with TBL’s statement. How can you not be representing your paper when you’re always introduced as “John Smith of the New York Times?”
Everyone knows that your opinions are not the same as EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE of the paper just because you’re “representing” said paper. But you’re still representing the paper. And we all know you gotta repruhzent!!

+1 moleman

Trey Wingo handled himself well. The Boston Herald guy was a jerk.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
So he doesn’t represent the paper??? I’m sure the Herald will be thrilled to hear that…

Word Up
May 14th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
You got the Jerry O’Connell interview?
May 14th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
hockey’s up now. that’s my bad. i got caught up in the spygate vs. the media angle, which i found interesting. the actual spygate shit? dont care. nothing’s going to come of it, and you know not every tape was handed over
May 14th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
the only reason he’s there is because of the paper.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
@Jibble - +1. I can’t believe that song is used in a 2008 Chevy ad. That song is so old, I believe it was the third tape I ever bought (behind “Midnight Star: Planetary Invasion” and some Bob Seger tape. I was 6. give me a break.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
@ atlantasportsfan: I’m definitely awaiting that song, along with “You can’t touch this” and “Bust a move” (two of my first cd’s) on “Stuff White People like”.
Well i would be if I didn’t hate that blog with every fiber of my being.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
@jibble. Excellent “Bust a Move” reference. Anyone remember cassette singles? Pretty sure that was one of the first ones I had. Damn that was sweet.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
damn, how old are you people?
May 14th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Benji’s an ageist!!
May 14th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
The specials treat is fresh bagels.
/spoiled
May 14th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
@benji. I’m old enough to remember when County Stadium had the original Bernie Brewer. Damn, that’s old.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
I thought the special treat was we’re all going to Baskin Robbins
May 14th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Benji, I probably did the Charleston with your grandparents
May 14th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
do you guys ever go back and read the interviews from before TBL got popular? most likely you weren’t reading/commenting then. i read the Curtis Granderson interview and some commenter said Granderson bandged his wife a bunch of times in Seattle. Pretty funny stuff.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
true BTL. but was he being interviewed because of his knowledge of the spygate, because he was a sports radio host or because he was speaking on behalf of the paper?
that’s what i was getting at. maybe it’s semantics. sure, he represents the paper in public. but being introducted in an interview as “representing” a paper, to me that infers the interviewee is speaking on behalf of the paper, a spokesperson.
in that respect i understand where felger was coming from.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
I had a record player that played 45’s and 33’s. I still have some of those 45’s..
May 14th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Can’t watch video cuz I’m at work but I will say that Felger is one of the few journalists in Boston who doesn’t worship at the altar of all things Sox and Pats. And now he does more TV and Radio than Herald, and could be on his way out at Herald.
