A Friday Night Double-Header! Part 2: Lakers-Jazz
NBA, WAG May 16th. 2008, 10:30pmGame 2 of the double-header feature the MVP and one of the best young point guards alive. A quick preview and another picture of Andre Kirilenko’s wife after the jump.

Utah is something like 40-5 at home this season and home teams are 20-1 in the second round of the playoffs. Sounds like the recipe for a Jazz win to me.
To say its that simple is to discount the MVP. Kobe will be ready to go tonight. And as we all know Kobe’s mere presence is enough to give his team a chance. The Lakers almost pulled it out on Sunday in Utah when Kobe was completely hobbled.
Deron Williams will be standing his the Lakers’ way tonight. Williams is averaging 22 and 11 in the playoffs and Kobe is as enamored with Williams’ play as anyone else:
“I love him,” Bryant recently said of Williams. “He’s one of my favorite players in the league.
“I love his toughness. I love his competitiveness. I love his skill. I don’t throw accolades around too frequently. I really love him as a basketball player.”
I think its safe to say that if the Lakers dispatch the Jazz this evening Kobe will be buying Deron a huge-ass diamond.

AK’s wag is a cutie.
Deron’s is a stunner, though. Is that his wife?

@chitownsfinest – Did the original Boston Strangler take credit for the deaths of people who choked?
May 16th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
@CRM… ALL the Boston fans give a collective “OUCH!!!”

Thread jack!
It might not be on sportscenter tonight, but Carlos Gomez almost knocked himself out tonight by running into the OF wall at full speed.

pkiguy22-Saw it. My thoughts:
Carlos Gomez > Torii Hunter
May 16th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
I was watching the game, PKI. Great play. Nathan does not do well in Coors, huh?
Needed that save, though.

Hef, yes that is true, for now. However, with how he has improved just from the start of the season, he has been working deep into counts with regularity now, I think ultimately his floor as a player is Torii Hunter, and I think he’ll be much much better.
May 17th, 2008 at 12:02 am
I don’t disagree that he has a ton of potential but it’s a little early, no?
May 17th, 2008 at 12:03 am
I start him every night on my fantasy team for a reason, he’s got the potential to steal 75 bases a year (caveat: if he can get on base 75 times a year).

Half-Time – Lakers up by 19 points… Riddle Me This
Will the Refs help get the Jazz to a Game 7
May 17th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Hef: You think you are so cool because you can do bold text whenever you feel like it.
I agree with fetch on this one. Gomez has actually been pretty patient at the plate lately. He still needs to work on his swing, but he is coming around. I think in the end, he will be a better player than Hunter, but still Hunter was the face of the Twins for a very long time and it will take a while before people stop mentioning Hunter every time Gomez makes a nice play.
May 17th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Torii Hunter career OPS+ 105. He’s pretty overrated as a player. Plus he’s only an average CF.
Saying Gomez’s floor is Hunter isn’t saying all that much, to be honest.
May 17th, 2008 at 12:12 am
Torii Hunter’s OPS in his first full season (when he was 23): .689
Carlos Gomez’s combined first two seasons (roughly the same amount of at bats, when he was 21-22): .646 plus he’s been better defensively.
May 17th, 2008 at 12:12 am
We haven’t disagreed on anything yet pki and fetch. I think Gomez has the potential to do a shit ton of things. He’s very physically talented: speed, average, glove, etc. But right now, you’re fooling yourself if you think he’s better than Torii Hunter. He has been more patient (sorta, he struck out twice two nights ago and two nights before that). He still isn’t walking much.
May 17th, 2008 at 12:18 am
Right now do I think he’s better? No
In a couple years will he be better than Hunter ever was? I think so. As Nick said up there his career OPS+ is 105, and last year in his “huge walk year” his OBP was only .334
As an aside, I have to say I’m pretty pumped to be sick on a Friday night with awesome summer weather. But it is nice to talk to guys like Nick, Hef, et al who can actually bring facts into an argument rather than having my friend say “Dude Ryan Braun is an AWESOME third baseman!!!one!!eleven!!
/joke stolen from many people

And this one is over.
May 17th, 2008 at 1:02 am
That Kobe shot was CRAZY… LBJ made a similar one against the C’s
May 17th, 2008 at 1:14 am
Odom just made two clutch free throws. What’s going on here?
May 17th, 2008 at 1:17 am
If this Laker team was a true championship contender this game would be over in the end of the 3rd quarter. Do you think a Spurs team would let a 19 point lead go away?
May 17th, 2008 at 1:18 am
Cuz, you need AK’s wife in the roundup tomorrow.
May 17th, 2008 at 1:19 am
Unbelievable! The Jazz team had 2 open 3 pointers to tie this game… Now i’m going to bed that this is 6 AM where i live…
May 17th, 2008 at 1:19 am
Do true championship contenders get blown out the way the Spurs have or show the inability to win on the road? Let’s face it, every team is flawed in the NBA – the Lakers might be the least of the bunch.
