Kimbo Slice Is Being Introduced To The Oddest Audiences
MMA, Video May 19th. 2008, 1:40pmLast night at the Country Music Awards, Kimbo Slice presented an award with The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco.
Kimbo will next be seen May 31st on CBS in blah blah blah. When Kimbo shows up on Cold Case this week, don’t be surprised. I know that CBS has to try and get his man’s name out here, but wow. The Country Music Awards? Really? That’s the most outrageous example of juxtaposition in product placement since BET had Bill O’Reilly schilling rims on 106 and Park. (Waits for laughter from Snoop Dogg, Ludacris to die down.)
Oh yeah, if Kimbo loses his fight, I’m pretty sure we can blame Cuoco.
[Hat tip to Gonzo]
[Full disclosure: Rising before the sun, MDS posted it first. All I have to say about that is: MDS, "Do you understand that the world does not revolve around you and your do whatever it takes, ruin as many people's lives, so long as you can make a name for yourself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends you lose or people you leave dead and bloodied along the way, just so long so you can make a name for yourself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends you lose or people you leave dead and bloodied and dying along the way?"]

I would give Kaley Cuoco my big bang theory.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
TBL…fantastic Zoolander quote.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Kimbo was also in the ring after the Gamboa fight saturday night on HBO.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
I wouldn’t be at all surprised for there to be overlap between Kimbo Slice fans and country music fans.
I’m more surprised that Kaley Cuoco was there, and that The Big Bang Theory wasn’t promptly canceled as the abortive filth that it is.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Cross marketing creates wonderfully embarrassing situations. Hooray! Keep them coming.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Any series featuring Kaley Cuoco should automatically be given 3 seasons.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
MMA and Country Music are actually a nice fit because they’re both FUCKING RETARDED.
/raised in Nashville, used to work with an MMA fighter.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
id slurp her cuoco puffs.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
August I assume you are excluding George Strait
May 19th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Big ol’ fuckin’ YAAAAAWN.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
pretending to like country music got me laid quite a few times during my year in college
May 19th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
@ Hakeem
All country music artists born before 1955 will be judged on a case-by-case basis. I’m not lumping Willy and Waylon in with Rascal Flats.
May 19th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Agreed, every member of rascal flats should be shot
May 19th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
august…feelings on Brad Paisley? im not a big country music guy (used to play in a few bands in texas just to get paid…but wasnt really feelin it) but the dude is one of the sicker guitarists ive ever heard.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
and yes…rascal flats is one of the worst bands i have ever heard. i wouldnt mind seeing that metro singer of there’s get a good ol’ boy whoopin.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
I’d have sex with her body parts.
/I suck at this.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

May 19th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
rascal flats is good
/let me hear it
May 19th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Normally videos I watch with Kimbo and the words “big” or “bang” in them have significantly more nudity and sexual content.
The hot girl is consistent though.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
@spencer. I couldn’t agree more with you about Brad Paisley. Dude can abuse the guitar, but damn he needs to find some new song writers. It’s amazing how repeated crappy lyrics can make a song(s) suck so bad.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
clown…listen son, guys who go on fictional dates with Corey Patterson aren’t gay.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
spencer: A lot of the musicians in the pop-country music realm are great instrumentalists. The backup musicians especially. The music still sucks farts though.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Any series featuring Kaley Cuoco should automatically be given 3-SOMES
/FIXED
May 19th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
classic country >>>>>today’s country
May 19th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
yea, i know a lot of Nashville musicians are top-notch. could be said about pop music in general. i know the guitarist for Christina Aguilera from a lot of his crazy jazz-fusion shit he does that’s ridiculously hard and complex…then you see him up there with some pop chick playing bar chords.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Kaley Cuoco was hotter on 8 Simple rules
/Chris Hansen knocking on my door
May 19th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
just ONCE, when Hansen asks, “what are you doing with Jack Daniels and condoms,” for the pederast to respont, “um…whiskey balloons?”
May 19th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Onterrio – is that Alice in Chains in your avatar? Any thoughts on the new album with DuVall on the mike? I’m hesitantly optimistic.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
@spence: Paisley’s wife is a nice piece of tail.
re: your letter — too many qualifications and caveats in that opening ‘graph. You gotta write that like you enjoy it. We can try it again next monf when the Reds come to Clev to sweep the Injuns again.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
The thought of an Alice In Chains album without Lane makes me angry.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Nick…you shouldve seen what i was originally going to write. it was filthy, disgusting, offensive…but i thought to myself, “if my parents found this on the internet authored by me, they might disown me.”
May 19th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Battlin’ Billy – I was angry at first too, but after reading the fairly solid concert reviews the band got last fall I upgraded to hesitant.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Onterrio…AIC or Primus? it looks kinda like the cover to Sailing the Sea of Cheese.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Kaley Cuoco was hotter on 8 Simple rules
Oh, that was HER? God damn. Seeya on Dateline Clown!
May 19th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
AiC Dirt… i am excited to hear DuVall, loved him in concert, his own style, yet doesn’t hamper the old style
May 19th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Paisley can play like a madman. You might like Brent Mason (easily the most sought after/most successful studio guitar player in the industry) if you like Paisley’s instrumental stuff.

May 19th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Jerry was a race car driver. Twenty-two years old. Had one too many cold beers one night and wrapped him self around a telephone pole.
+1 Spencer.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
The thought of an Alice In Chains album without Lane makes me angry.
AMEN! He and Shannon Hoon had the most amazing yet underrated voices of all time, IMO
May 19th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
@Roethlishotdog: Hesitant would be an understatement for me.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
august…yea, brent mason was the first country guy my guitar teacher turned me on to. he’s absolutely incredible, just tears the guitar apart. red volkaart (know it’s not spelled right) is great too, if youre into that kinda thing. danny gatton as well. roy buchanon. the hellacasters.
ok, so maybe i do like country. just not rascal flats.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
I say just give it a chance, then rip on it AFTER you don’t like it.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Blind Melon is another band that has gotten a new lead singer and has recorded new stuff. It’s just wrong. They should both change their names and move forward without dragging along the memories of their dead lead singers.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
@Battlin. You took the words out of my mouth. “Blind Melon” just played here a couple weeks ago and couldn’t go see them based solely on that fact. That is fine with me if they want to sing some of their songs and it is everyone in the band BUT the lead singer, but show a little respect and change the name.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
I enjoy Brad Paisley’s sense of humor, but man if you think he’s one of the best guitarists out there, you really need to expand your horizons. I’m not saying he’s bad, but you can’t compare his work to that being done in the classic music circles. Anybody who uses a pick on a guitar is a pussy.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
@ spencer
The Hellecasters are insane! I saw them play in town one night while the NAMM convention was going on (that’s about the only time all 3 are ever in the same city) about 10 years ago and got to meet Jerry Donahue and Will Ray afterwards… it’s just sick how much musical acumen those guys share on stage.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
I saw Blind Melon open for Alice in Chains in 1992, almost nobody knew who BM was, including me
May 19th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
@spence: I’ve been a big Hellecaster fan since someone turned me on to them here. Great stuff.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Very funny O&A bit about Dateline.. http://www.foundrymusic.com/media/displaymedia.cfm/id/15563/page/show_video_number_15563.html
May 19th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
xv43: huh? There is more than one style of playing a guitar. Just because one person uses a pick and another finger picks doesn’t mean the latter sucks. For the record: I don’t think he’s the best guitarist out there. I do know he is an accomplished guitarist though.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
They should both change their names and move forward without dragging along the memories of their dead lead singers.
I agree 100%. Change the name to One-Eyed Melon for all I care, but it’s just wrong in every way to still keep the same name…
May 19th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
xv43…i studied both jazz and classical guitar, and see the merits of fingerpicking. personally, id much rather use a pick, i can do way more with it, and i use a big, fat 2.0 dunlop black jazz that has a great mellow sound. i guess if using a pick makes you a pussy, i guess 90% of guitarists are huge pussies.
what do you mean by ‘classic’ music circles anyways?
august…yea, they’re some sick mofos. will ray is an absolute monster.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
You’re a little late with that. Someone already showed linked that bit.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
xv43…and yea, paisley is good, but i dont consider him anywhere near guys like allan holdsworth, steve vai, wes montgomery and scott henderson.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
Out of curiousity, do you think bands should change names only when the lead singer dies or when ANY member of the band dies?
May 19th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Do they have to die to force a name change?
May 19th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
The name must be altered if 1 of the 2 obvioulsy most talented members leave/die.
Like if Jerry Cantrell had died, but Lane was still around, he couldn’t call it Alice In Chains either.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Only when the lead singer dies. Sabbath is still Sabbath no matter who the band is, as long as Ozzy is the singer.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
hmm, my theory was, I thought Dave Grohl should’ve called Foo Fighters, Nirvana!
/I guess I’m in the minority
May 19th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
In most cases, I say just lead singer.
If Alex Van Halen had died, then I’d still say don’t change it. But if Eddie died… I’d have to change the name.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Pink Floyd carried on the name after they fired Syd Barrett, despite the fact that Barrett was the creative engine at the time.
pre-Syd and post-Syd Pink Floyd is like 2 different bands.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
It’s a different scenario when you fire somebody or they leave on their own. I’d say keeping the name the same is fine in almost all of those cases.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
and it doesnt matter what member of the band it is, if the identifying characteristic of that band is gone…the name can’t stay.
G’n'R is not the same without slash. just like it wouldnt be the same without axl. the stones arent the same without mick OR keith. LZ isnt the same without page or plant. etc.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
MDS is a big horse fan. Horse fans=gay
May 19th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
/not very timely fix to this
May 19th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
And they kept the name after Waters left, when they quickly become un-listenable, IMO. Sounded very ordinary.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
At least it wasn’t a fix to this.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
The Who is still The Who as long as Townshend and Daltrey are there, even after Moon/Entwhistle* kicked it.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
thanks for the fix, clown. Aren’t you in Mastodon’s “Blood and Thunder” video?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=msaF5LZ5BWs
May 19th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Who else knew the second they read this thread title with “Kimbo Slice” in it that it would soon turn into a discussion about classical guitarists?
May 19th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
oh, and lynard skynard is just as FUCKING AWFUL with or without their original lead singer.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
@ Nick Papa
Pink Floyd was never Pink Floyd until Syd Barret was exiled. His name is synonomous with Floyds and yes, he DID create a healthy amount of their creativity and tunes and lyrics and inspiration, but the band wasn’t shit until he was gone.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
spencer – I know you didn’t just bad mouth Freebird
May 19th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
How bout this one?
Billy Corgan calling Zwan 2.0 the Smashing Pumpkins. If a bigger scam is being pulled anywhere, I’d like to hear about it.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Breaking: I have blocked the iphone ad and the chinese marriage ad, so those are no more!!
May 19th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Swandong…i think he’s talking about the period in the 80’s after Waters left. i agree with him, they sounded pretty bland and un-edgy without Waters, and Gilmour, while a nice vocalist, isn’t half the singer Roger Waters is. plus, the fact they hate each other really helped the music.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Skynyrd ruled.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
@swan: No arguments from me. I said when Waters left, it become sub-par.
I actually liked the Barret album, though.
I have the Best of Syd CD (don’t haze me for having a best of…), and it’s great.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
fuck yes i did. i swear to god, if i have to hear that or Sweet Home Alabama one more time, im gonna start a campaign to secede from the South.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Billy Corgan… ahhhh what a douche who wasted great talent. I lament at what the Smashing Pumpkins could have been. (Not that they weren’t great, but Ava Adore? Has anybody heard that tripe? Don’t get me started on Machina or whatever its called)
May 19th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Spencer… go ahead, we won’t mind it.
BTW, how the hell did Cleveland get the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Am I missing something in my rock history that makes Cleveland the epicenter of Rock and Roll?
May 19th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
@spencer. Try going to any Alabama sporting event. Shear torture, and I don’t even mind skynard all that much.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
to be honest…we’re not sure how that happened either. but if some other city wants it, it’d be fine by us.
i was watching the cavs game with a few friends of mine and one of them asked the question, “when was the last time any of you went to the Rock Hall?”
the answer: between 7 people who have lived here at least 5 of the last 10 years…0 since 1999.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
I like Syd too, don’t get me wrong, I’m a bit of a Floyd geek actually. The passion was all gone when Waters left, and really Pink Floyd was over. But although Pink Floyd officially started with Syd, I preferr to think of the floyd days right after Barret, and right before THE FINAL CUT came out, cause that was 100% waters, and his control freak attitude ruined it all. top 5 band of all time though, floyd. Anyone hear the Shine On You Crazy Diamond story?
I personally hope ’smashing pumpkins’ don’t return to chicago. i would hate that. fucking billy. im content with the image of “cream” or something short and sweet, serving as my virtuous band of my generation, and forgetting all the forgetable stuff.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
@ justinsands: Cleveland is the undisputed epicenter of palatable driving distance for the east coast/south/midwest… that’s always been my guess!
May 19th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
@august west, and all this time I thought it was drew carey
May 19th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
the correct answer is some DJ here coined the phrase “rock and roll.”
seriously.
im not shitting you.
so i guess whoever started calling it “football” was from canton but the sport probably started in NYC or in another country like everything else.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Rock and roll is the product of misery, broken hearts, and pent up rage, so assuming Philly didn’t have any space available, Cleveland seemed like the perfect fit.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Allen Freed being a DJ in Cleveland was enough? Wow.
+1 for knowing that Spence…
May 19th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
By classic music circles, I mean classical guitar (guys like Andres Segovia or the other John Williams).
In fingerpicking outside classical music, Tommy Emmanuel does a really great piece which is a medley of the Beatles’ Lady Madonna and Daytripper. Great stuff.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t listen to classical guitar all that often, but if you want to talk about technical virtuosity, that’s where you end up.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
He didn’t know that. He probably googled it and found this.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
august…yea, kinda shocking no? plus, doesnt it kinda defeat the purpose of it being in cleveland if you HOST THE PARTY IN NEW YORK? dumbasses. we don’t want your pointy token of gratitude…just give us our burning rivers and crippling recession.
Sean Jean…plus, if it was in Detroit, they’d light it on fire.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
I beg your pardon?
May 19th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
xv43…i STRONGLY disagree. the classical guitar is an extremely limited device – limited harmonically compared to the piano and horizontally (speed) compared to the violin and horns. there are a few cute contrapuntal things you can do on guitar, but it’s a niche instrument.
and if classical guitar is about technical virtuosity, than how is it any less virtuosic if a guitarist plays single note lines? the violin cant do harmonic stuff, only single note lines…so is it any less virtuosic.
the guitar is a chameleon, it can adapt to any style of music seemlessly. there’s all sorts of things you can do, and all styles have technically difficult aspects that shadow others. id lvoe to see julian bream try to play some yngwie malmsteen on his Hauser nylon-stringed guitar…it wouldnt be pretty.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
spencer: I think xv43 was speaking strictly to technical ability in guitars. Not all classical instruments.
That being said, I still disagree with him.
