Ballin’: Celtics 94, Pistons 80
NBA May 25th. 2008, 11:00am
Kevin Garnett had 22 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists in Boston’s first road win of the postseason. It wasn’t just the starters that chimed in for the Celtics; the role players and bench contributed greatly. It was the biggest question mark for the Celtics prior to the first tip of the season, and last night it was a convincing answer. Kendrick Perkins had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Rajon Rondo had 12 points and four assists and James Posey scored 12 points off the bench. Add to that Ray Allen’s 14 points and Paul Pierce’s 11 and you’ve got a pretty convincing victory.
At one point, Boston led by 24, but the Pistons clawed back in the 4th quarter. In the end, the Celtics made 25 of 30 free throws and held a 44-28 rebounding advantage. The triumvirate of Prince, Billups and Hamilton shot a combined three of 17 in the first half, but Hamilton did finish with 26 points. While they made 23 of 26 free throws, Detroit shot a feeble 38% from the field.
Game 4 is set for Monday night at 8:30 on ESPN. Later today, it’s the Lakers and Spurs from San Antonio. Tip is set for 8:30 on TNT.
