Here Here, for New Zealand
Athletes and Celebrities, Car Racing May 25th. 2008, 5:56pm
Scott Dixon won the Indianapolis 500, beating Vitor Meira to the checkered flag by 1.75 seconds. It was the first win at Indy for Dixon, who started on the pole and led most of the race. He’s the first New Zealand native to capture the Indy 500. I always thought Nick Price was a fellow New Zealander, but he was born in South Africa and moved to Zimbabwe (it’s those “z’s” that confuse me with countries.
The list of top ten finishers:
1. Scott Dixon
2. Vitor Meira
3. Marco Andretti
4. Helio Castroneves
5. Ed Carpenter
6. Ryan Hunter-Reay
7. Hideki Mutoh
8. Buddy Rice
9. Darren Manning
10. Townsend Bell
I’m not even going to pretend to know who most of those people are. Sorry. However, I can say I know of various celebrities who attended the race, including honorary starter Kristi Yamaguchi. Some other notables after the jump (that was a wicked teaser).
Also appearing at the 92nd Indy 500 was two time Dancing With the Stars winner, Julianne Hough, Marcus Allen, Baron Davis, Anthony Edwards, Patricia Heaton (MILF), Florence Henderson, Candice Michelle, Bode Miller, Luke Perry and Slash from Guns ‘n Roses. Of all those, I’d say Slash and Florence Henderson are the most “celeb”, but that’s just me.
Enjoy your Sunday evening.

This would have been a whole lot more intersting if the damn security guard didn’t stop Danica from approaching the guy that hit her

I lived in New Zealand for 4 months last year. Great country but racing didn’t exactly come across as a favorite sport. I guess the Rugby World Cup can do that.

I’m hijacking this section.. Odom is killing the Lakers. Ginobli is dominating. And Phil Jackson’s banter with Craig Sager is worth the price of admission!

And Kobe has 5 free throw attempts through two and a half games! This from the guy that averaged 17 a game in the Utah series.

And we’re in the 18th inning of Reds/Padres.. as if the baseball season isn’t long enough. Forget instant replay, how about the equivalent of a shootout (homerun derby maybe). You’re telling me that wouldn’t be more interesting?
