Usain Bolt: Cool Name, Cooler Story
Boxing, Track & Field, Video June 2nd. 2008, 6:00pm
Missed over the weekend by 99.9 percent of sports fans, for no reason other than “any startling performance brings immediate suspicion” that someone has cheated: Sprinter Usain Bolt setting a world record in the 100 meter race. It’s like the next slugger to jack 60 homers. Won’t everyone will assume he’s cheating, like Mark McGwire et al?Be that as it may: Jamaica’s Bolt is 21, stands at 6-foot-5, and obliterated the record with a time of 9.72. This makes him the fastest human being on the planet. He recently ran a 9.76 and people chalked that up as bunk. We’re hoping he’s not doping. Hey, that rhymes.
Sadly, nothing rhymes with Yuriorkis Gamboa, a boxer we learned about this weekend thanks to one of our commenters. He’s only 5-foot-5, 128-pounds, but once you watch that video, it’s clear he’s a young athlete worth keeping an eye on.

And why is he grabbing his nuts?
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Usain Bolt is an alright name, but not nearly as cool as Tommy Ghost Dog of Burns, Oregon. And yes, that’s his real name:
http://blog.oregonlive.com/oregonianpreps/2008/05/two_days_rest_plenty_for_burns.html
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:07 pm
He’s so tall, that during the race, he looks like he’s moving at about 3/4 speed, but stays out in front the whole way. Go tall guys!
Also, like anything else, I’m sure that the home run hitter doping thing will depend on who it is. I’m certainly not saying it’s a sure thing, but if Dunn does it, he’s always been big, so no significant questions/accusations. If there’s another Brady Anderson, there will most definitely be questions/accusations.
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Yup, these are my bloggers…
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:18 pm
TBL that is the 2nd picture today of some dude grabbing/looking at his genitalia. Are you hinting at something?
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Glad to see Gamboa getting some love, TBL.
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Threadjack.
Just read this on ESPN.com, hilarious.
Since being traded to the Cowboys, Jones has tried to surround himself with a better support group. He’s befriended former Cowboys Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders.
Better support group includes Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders, hahahahahhah. I’m quitting smoking cheeba I guess I will surround myself with Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg.
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:06 pm
TBL, this story was missed over the weekend because no one gives a shit. I have proof.
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:14 pm
I love that a 0.2% improvement in time is “obliterating” the record. Guess I need to new word to describe the next time I beat my personal best for Length of Time Spent on the Couch.
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:19 pm
+1 Gonzo
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:56 pm
homerun jay bruce
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Hey the Pens called up Alex Goligoski for tonight. Not like he’ll play or get his name on the cup or anything.
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:24 pm
a scoring adjustment has given goligoski the record for points in the calder cup. its his first season. and hes a fucking defensemen.
too many man on the ice penalty on the pens, and not even close i mean there were six guys making plays, wasnt even at the bench. thats why mike yeo fucking sucks.
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:31 pm
we aint dead yet mother fuckers
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Now lets get Goli out there. He’s so gritty, he’ll D it up.
/sarcasm
I laughed when what’s his face who does the In the Glass stuff started talking about what’s wrong with Petr Sykora.
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:38 pm
honestly if goligoski is anywhere near as good as letang they have to trade whitney
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
He’s good offensively, but defensively I’m not as sure, unless he improved a ton since college.
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:44 pm
whitney is garbage defensively and is one of the bigger guys in the league
and adam hall? really?
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
and yeah i HATE that between the boards crap, especially going on the bench. you cannot say that doesnt interfere with the game.
its okay when errey does it for FSN because he knows all the pens, but pierre is a dickhead
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Wasn’t Goligoski the name of the villain in the movie “The Whole 9 Yards”
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:50 pm
pollack was goglogak or something
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Yes, that’s it. Yanni Gogolak. Good call Moleman.
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:54 pm
nbc is really driving home the whole sid isnt playing enough thing when therrien bitched them about it between games. clearly edzos decision as he is still bitter about getting canned.
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:16 pm
what the fuck does ‘energy guys’ even mean
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
has anyone seen the WTC movie? Sad stuff. It’s on encore or one of those movie channels right now. Massive change of pace from what i watched at 8 – gossip girl.
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
@TBL: If you mean the Oliver Stone one, it’s the only movie I’ve ever cried at. Just sad, sad, sad.
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:29 pm
I refuse to watch WTC. It was sad enough the first time I saw it 7 years ago.
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:29 pm
tackling, its legal if youre redwing, brought to you by the guys who decided charging isnt a penalty if youre redwing either
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:30 pm
I refuse to believe that Joe Mauer just hit a homerun. And I’m with Gonzo.
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:45 pm
gonchar and malone both hurt in a minute span
both self inflicted
jesus christ
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:52 pm
HIS NAME IS NOT ORPECK
nor is maxime TALBERT
or GEORGE staal
fucking christ this is horrible
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:14 pm
so thats a penalty, but stall getting his stick broken by a slash isnt?
pathetic
again, not saying theyre in the bag for the wings, as that wouldnt make sense, theyre just fucking awful
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
NO DONT SHOW THE FUCKING PENALTY SHOW THE VERIZON WIRELESS SOUNDS OF THE GAME FUCK
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:20 pm
so we see no replay of a penalty that led to a tying goal in a cup winning game of the finals? im sorry this is the worst hockey broadcast ive ever seen
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
and thats your stanley cup
absolutely terrible by the penguins, no shots ten minutes into the last period of your season? wow
therrien shouldnt get that extension
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:24 pm
I feel sorry for the Penguins goaltend
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:24 pm
I think the Russian mob told Malkin to throw the series.
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:25 pm
malkin has been bad but so has everyone but hossa, sid, and fleury
malkin has played 60 more games this year than any season he had in russia, he was going to get tired at some point
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
I dont think you can blame it all on him being tired. I’m sure that’s a factor, but it’s been a little ridiculous.
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
did you see him in the playoffs last year? he was clearly tired, i think its a huge factor.
and i think sykora has a broken arm or seperated shoulder
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
yes hockey jesus i did. and i’ll agree with you on sykora he looks dead out there.
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:32 pm
i dont know, there has to be something wrong with malkin is all im saying
pierre said sykora has a ‘big’ upper body injury he is playing through
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
not really trying to make excuses btw
detroit is clearly the better team in every aspect (i would argue not goaltending, you get a bunch of shots on ozzie and he folds faster than superman on laundry day).
… still think they would have bitched dallas though
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
The Penguins for sure blew this game worse than a Tampa teacher and a 15 year old.
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:39 pm
YES MAX
dont go out like a bitch guys, take out some bolivians with yuo
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Pierre just blows the Red Wings whenever he can.
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
there could be a pit viper in the detroit bench and pierre would note there is no panic on the bench
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
How can you not have momentum going into ot when you just scored with :30 left?
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:46 pm
because they refuse to give the penguins any praise
either way whatever happens, i cant argue with their performance at the moment, they showed a lot of guts getting that goal. lots of dignity.
now fucking bring it back home
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Don’t know if anybody knew this, but Lozo is live-blogging the game at NHL.com.
/better late than never, right?
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:51 pm
wow awesome
hes come a long way from the first time i went to his site and saw a deformed penis
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:53 pm
How’d he score that gig?
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:54 pm
moleman, are you from Pittsburgh or do you just hold Crosby to a Kobe-ish* standard?
*as in, the best in the league
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:55 pm
state college, i hold crosby to a high standard but i dont think i could blame him for anything, not sure where youre going with this?
but i mean hes still 20 and isnt all the way healed, i dont expect him to reinvent the wheel, but to actually show up, which he has done, i expect from him and malkin
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
I just wasn’t sure if the Penguins are your team. Like, the Mavs are my team, but I’ve latched onto the Lakers once Dallas was eliminated because I recognize Kobe’s awesomeness. I just wasn’t sure if you were a die-hard fan of the Pens.
I’m probably not making sense.
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:58 pm
and, when hes healthy, i think sid is the best player in the game, but i think its for sure debatable
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:58 pm
ohhh gotcha, makes sense.
nah ive been a pens fans since i was little. well ive never been little, but young.
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Clown I’m with ya on the Kobe thing. Love watching him play, even though I’m a Jazz fan.
Mole you a Penn State fan?
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:07 pm
nope hate penn state, ive just been here a few years
i misread, im not actually from here. i grew up in indy and it was either detroit/pens/chicago. and as everyone there hates the western two it was an easy choice. ill admit i was six and it was marebear that drew me but ive been loyal since then
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:09 pm
western two cities. jesus i cant type.
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
wow
ozzie had no idea where that was, malkin finally woke up!
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:13 pm
The more I see Staal and Malone the more I’m impressed.
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:17 pm
nbc is hating the no commercials in OT rule right now
fuckers
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
cant pass up the shot staalsy
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Goligoski might end up playing with how tired they’re getting.
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
I think he dressed anyways, if not I’m a retard.
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
nah hes scratched, its just because tanger had to goto the funeral of the canucks kid
that was a trash penalty, like i said, terrible officiating
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
how
do
you
not

the
fucking
puck
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:28 pm
worst powerplay ever
holy shit
poor coaching, poor execution, poor everything
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:35 pm
also
more than anything in this playoffs, fleurys coming out party. all the questions have been answered, he is now one of the best in the league. its weird to say ‘finally’ for a kid who is only 23, but… finally
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:49 pm
WOW i would be furious if i were a detroit fan
the nhl has to do something man, i feel bad
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:53 pm
seriously
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:56 pm
you cant dummy the puck and get icing
jesus this is terrible
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:23 am
Gotta give the kids from Pittsburgh credit for not choking. This is a helluva game.
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:30 am
My Kobe alert went off.. what happened here?! Who’s talking Mamba?
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:47 am
Stupid penalty on Hudler. Pens win.
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:47 am
HE FUCKING CALLED IT BABY
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:48 am
We’ll see you in Pittsburgh!!!!
trying to get wrapped up in this.. after watching first full hockey game of the year
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:53 am
Holy shit what a great fucking game. That was awesome
June 3rd, 2008 at 1:03 am
i am so proud of them right now. what can you say about fleury?
and gonchar coming back for a kirk gibson moment, getting the secondary, to geno who needed that more than anyone, to a gimpy sykora for the ruth shot?
epic. easily one of the best finals games ever

read the blogs and all will become clear.
