I don’t know if that office worker video is bullshit or not, but you gotta love the 3 guys who are making videos with their cellphones.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:11 am
I have trouble believing that the vid of the insane office worker is real. It’s on the interwebs after all.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:13 am
John Smoltz is a HOF’er. I won’t even read an article that says otherwise. The only question is if he’s first ballot. Which in my mind he obviously is, but could see him waiting a couple years to get in.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:15 am
Yeah, i’d love to read a backstory on that office situation. It looked like a woman got hit in the face when he threw the computer early in the video. She went down.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:17 am
I’d like to think the office video is fake too, if for no other reason then I can’t believe that those dudes would stand there like a bunch of pussies after that woman got nailed with the PC.
I’m not bothering to read the Smoltz story either. HOF player, no question.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:19 am
On the Alycia Lane front, Larry Mendte (who allegedly hacked into her email) was her co-anchor at the Philly CBS affiliate, not her competitor.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Ultimate Frisbee is the new lacrosse. Seriously, it’s a real sport people!
June 5th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Big Daddy Drew came out. Still sucks.
There is a debate about Smoltz belonging in the HOF?
Gonzo can stop lusting after Crosby’s five hole now.
(sobbing)
June 5th, 2008 at 8:24 am
Hopefully Altidore will keep developing in La Liga and the US will actualy have a viable option at striker.
Oh, and Christina Milian? Soooooo hot.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:32 am
Nothing beats starting the day with Norman Chad…
June 5th, 2008 at 8:32 am
thanks for the heads up, TK. reading comp skills at 6 am aren’t what they used to be.
jack – one of my top 10 us weekly work highlights was interviewing christina milian in a hotel room a couple years back. besides being absolutely gorgeous, she’s actually quite smart and witty.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:32 am
Ed McMahon’s possible forclosure has everything to do with neck injury, nothing to do with the housing slump. It’s funny that Britney Spears being a neighbor is making the house hard to sell.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:35 am
i’ll try and find the awesome second view of the office fight. security busts in and tazes the shit out of the guy. could be real. great acting if not.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:36 am
it’s going to be a day HEAVY on the NBA finals, fyi. many posts.
on classic right now: Lakers/Celtics game 2 from the 84 finals. garden.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:36 am
For those that ignored the Smoltz article, lucky you. I didn’t. It was stupid. Part of his argument was that Smoltz wasn’t even the best starter on his team for much of his career. Well, yeah…Maddux was only the best pitcher of the last 50 years (arguably). And, because “Billy Koch isn’t a HOFer, and he has more saves than Smoltz.” Just utter stupidity. TBL, why the fuck would you link to something like that? C’mon, man. I know I’m a homer, but what the fuck?
It also mentioned that he wasn’t as dominant a closer as Eckersley was. No shit. Who else is/was? Does that matter? It’s not like Eckersley is the bottom of the barrel in the HOF, so if you’re not better than him, you don’t get in. He also discounted most of his postseason, just because he had more opportunities than most because the Braves were in the posteason so much. Sure, he had more opportunities than a lot of guys. But he pitched well when it mattered, more often than not. The numbers bear that out.
What a fucking idiot.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Also in today’s news….Obama’s buddy Tony Rezko found guilty on 16 counts in corruption trial.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:38 am
Sure, being out of action for 18 months is brutal, BUT … wasn’t this guy worth $200 million? (That was the # Howard Stern floated this AM – didn’t really check it out.)
But wiki has this, from 2002: “In April 2002, McMahon sued his insurance company, insurance adjusters, and several environmental cleanup contractors over breach of contract related to negligence in cleaning up water damage after a broken water pipe was repaired in his Beverly Hills, California house. The lawsuit alleged that moisture from the pipe break caused toxic mold to spread, sickened his wife, Pamela, and members of the household staff, killed the family dog, Muffin, and ruined his priceless memorabilia collection. The case was reported to have been settled out of court for US$7.2 million.”
June 5th, 2008 at 8:38 am
Here is the link to both videos of the office incident:
http://arbroath.blogspot.com/2008/06/man-having-issues-in-office.html
Pretty weird/scary stuff. It looks real despite it’s ridiculousness.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:39 am
@atlanta: Smoltz hit 5 homers in his career. You know how many Babe Ruth hit? Try 714 on for size. Smoltz sucks.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:39 am
2nd angle for office flip out.
how did McMahon break his neck? for some reason i never knew this or just forgot.
christina millian is unbelievable. that nick cannon movie she is in is terrible but watchable just because of her.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:40 am
atl -
Agree completely. No one discounts all the marginal Yankees that made the Hall because they were in the World Series every year.
Smoltz is a class act and a definite HOF’er. Give him 1-2 years after his eligibility and he will be speaking in July at Cooperstown.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:40 am
the other angle was just linked up – hot clicks had it yesterday
June 5th, 2008 at 8:41 am
ASF – I read it too, unfortunately. It’s like listening to someone try to tell you Van Gogh was a shitty painter. I’m a Smoltz fan, so I thought I’d go against the usual human reaction of reading things we agree with. Bad idea. He lost me when he started talking about Smoltz’s numbers before becoming a reliever because his career could have easily ended then and how 3000 strikeouts isn’t that impressive. That’s 20 minutes I won’t get back. Shit.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:41 am
I’m with Dirty, it can’t be real because all those dudes can’t be complete pussies. I mean he hit some chick with a monitor, I’d love to be given the opportunity to kick some morons ass with no consequence.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:41 am
@Nick – yeah, and Geovany Soto has caught more games in his career than Smoltz. What does that say for Smoltz’s versatility? Not HOF, that’s what it says.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:42 am
I think its awesome Big Daddy Drew is having a book published. It’s my goal.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:42 am
benji, those publishers clearinghouse checks are unbelievably heavy.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:42 am
No way that office video is real.
So Drew came out of the blogger closet. Good for him. His NFL stuff on DS is very well done.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:43 am
Can anyone decipher the language they are speaking?
June 5th, 2008 at 8:44 am
@Sean, Benji – you guys are my heros.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:46 am
Whitlock’s approach to writing about Baseball explains alot about his race columns.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Jax, Van Gogh was a shitty painter. His stuff is all swirly and blurry. No thank you!
June 5th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Tiger…Phil…US Open at place they both own…oh my god…im having a heart attack.
/sister’s college graduation is on the same weekend? FUCKING CHRIST ASS MOTHER FUCKER
June 5th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Tigers fans are still saying “doh!” about trading away Smoltz for Doyle Alexander.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Congratulations, Ed McMahan – you absolutely, positively have WON a cardboard house on Hollywood Blvd!!!!
June 5th, 2008 at 8:57 am
But Doyle Alexander had more wins in 1987 than Smoltz did…therefore, Smoltz is not a HOFer.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:59 am
That trade was the perfect example of getting a hired gun for the short term and killing your team in the future. Tigers wouldn’t have an ace in their system for another 20 years.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:03 am
CM is Extremely HOTT, sigh and She came so close to being Mrs…
And regarding Ed M.(if I’m not mistaken) “The Bottle” was his Best-Friend for a LOOOOONG Time
June 5th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Smoltz will get into the HOF on his 1st ballot (deservingly so), because there really won’t be a huge name to take away his votes. He’ll be at least a year or two removed from the Bonds/Clemens/Biggio ballot, so he’ll be fine.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:09 am
@sean john…i was wondering the same thing. the link said there is foul language, but they aren’t even speaking english. DUMB.
bridget moynahan is hot as fuck in that article and in my dreams. you need to throw her up on one of these roundups instead of freaking hilary duff.
i wonder if the celebrity belmont preview will be jerry o’connell. hmmmm…..
June 5th, 2008 at 9:09 am
@ WhoDey
Good call on the ultimate frisbee thing. I sent that link into TBL last night, glad to see it getting some play this morning. We need more respect as a sport!
BTW, I am heading to Austin this weekend to play in our club team’s first tournament of the season, should be fun!
June 5th, 2008 at 9:13 am
The 1987 trade worked out as the Tigers had hoped…in 1987. Alexander was awesome, the Tigers made a late push and won the division (AL East) with a sweep against the Blue Jays. They won the division on the last day of the season with a 1-0 win against Toronto. Remember it well, Frank Tanana pitched and was great.
It was a calculated risk to trade away a prospect for the opportunity to win now. Teams do it all the time.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:13 am
Too bad the shit the bed against the Twinkies in the ALCS.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:14 am
why would you make a case for Smoltz NOT to get in to the HOF? The dude has over 200 wins, 150 saves, 3K ks, and an era of 3.26. Not to mention a World Series win and a Cy Young. No way you can deny that, and I’m a phillies fan.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:14 am
im sick of hearing how all 3 braves dudes are 1st ballot HoFers. Maddux and Smoltz, absolutely. Glavine is a piece of shit and I hope he gets banned from baseball.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:17 am
ATL…trust me my hatred of Smoltz is pure…but whoever thinks he is not a Hall of Famer is a complete asshat…I can make the argument that he was the best pitcher on his team…and he was the only one who didn’t throw 15 ft outside to get called strikes like his golfing buddies
June 5th, 2008 at 9:18 am
wha-wha-what?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:18 am
I’m going to go in the other direction on the office vid. I absolutely believe it’s real (or at least that it could be real) and I can’t believe it doesn’t happen more often.
As for some of the other guys in the office who did nothing; there are a TON of people who are very afraid of confrontation verbally, let alone physically. Throw in the outright shock factor of seeing a guy completely wig the fuck out and yeah, I believe that there would be dudes just standing around, wanting to avoid the situation.
/Have worked in a cubicle for 10+ years
June 5th, 2008 at 9:19 am
412..spencer still feels the residuals of the 1995 World Series..I only hope that he is outed for being the embedded Brave and purposly throwing the last game of 2007…a pox on his family..except his hot ass wife
June 5th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Glavine is not nearly as good as the other two, but he is far from a ‘piece of shit’. Anybody with 300 wins deserves some serious DAP. I never enjoyed watching him pitch as much as Smoltz or Maddux. Maddux was really my favorite of that trio. The guy always threw strikes and worked fast – pitched to contact and got guys out. Game 1 of the 1996 World Series is one of my favorite non-closeout games to ever watch. Maddux had a complete game win against the Yankers and only threw like 85 pitches – it was a masterpiece.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:20 am
A: Love the Milan
B: Also agree that Smoltz deserves to be a HOF
C: I love how the one guy just grabs the lamp from him after he’s beating up what looks like the copier and then does nothing. If I was in that office I would have just stood back and laughed, that is until he started fucking with my shit. Then it would have been Goldberg time with the spear.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:20 am
412…he sucks, he’s a punk bitch who knows he’ll get shelled so he nibbles all day and the umps puss out and give him the outside corner. there’s a reason when they started using that computer shit for strikes his ERA went thru the roof.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Smoltz Post-season record ALONE will get him in the HOF
@TBL can you get the PS-records for Smoltz, Glavine and Maddox when they were wih the Braves
June 5th, 2008 at 9:22 am
It really gets old when bloggers start using the FJM format to rip apart articles. It is funny when Ken T. does it, but it just seems like some of these bloggers are just trying too hard. JW points out in the beginning, that he doesn’t follow the Royals that much, and so most of his comments are just observations of a common fan. If he were a beat writer, then I would say that this is fair game, but it isn’t and so I say we let JW off the hook on this one. I am guessing that his bosses told him to go watch a game and write about it. He did, and now we are ripping on him? Instead of just pointing out some flaws, lets try and come up with your own original ideas about what should be done.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:22 am
@Chelsea Chris,
the loss to the Twins is what makes that trade hard. Yeah it did it’s duty, but they got nothing out of Alexander the following year. They just got their asses handed to them in that series. I think the push against the Blue Jays at the end of the year just drained them. Hard to figure out how Trammel didn’t win the MVP that season.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:23 am
My problem with Maddux was he never threw more than 100 pitches and he would pull himself from close games..an artist..absolutely..a pussy..absolutely…Smoltz was the Warrior..Smoltz was the guy you wanted to have the ball when it mattered…Smoltz was the heart and soul of that Brave pitching staff
June 5th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Smoltz in the post season: 15-4, 4 saves era 2.65
June 5th, 2008 at 9:24 am
@Chitown: Smoltz postseason record: 15-4, 2.65 ERA, 4 S, 207 IP, 168 H, 194 K
June 5th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Shit…he had 4 losses..I retract my statement..no HOF for Smoltz
June 5th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Glavine post season: 12-15 with ATL 2-1 with mets, 3.33 era
June 5th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Sponge is quicker on the Baseball-reference then I am..damn it!
June 5th, 2008 at 9:26 am
sparty – Trammell is still my all-time fav Tiger…he was robbed in 1987. George Bell was great, but I think the writers voted prior to the Tigers overtaking the Jays.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:26 am
Maddux 11-14, 3.34 era
June 5th, 2008 at 9:26 am
sponge don’t forget his heroic 7 run first inning on the last game of last year as the Mets tried to get into the playoffs…Glavine is pure guts…
June 5th, 2008 at 9:27 am
On the Ed McMahon front, I heard yesterday (I haven’t had time to do the leg work to find out if it’s true) that the $200 million he had was in real estate holdings. That’s probably worth about 15 cents now.
He also had to pay off a few divorces. That probably didn’t help the bank account.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:27 am
i was there already when i went to check out Smoltz stats so i could get all his stats right
June 5th, 2008 at 9:27 am
@johndewar: i think its real as well. i would love to take swings at numerous guys from my office. but i wouldn’t wait til they destroy a bunch of shit cuz i know cleaning that up would be a bitch. i love when the guy hit the copy machine and paper starts flying out.
RE: Smoltz: HOFer for sure. no question. did anyone catch on sportscenter last night when they were showing his career accomplishments, and it said “Won 2005 World Series.” WTF??
June 5th, 2008 at 9:27 am
What exactly are we discussing? His exact place in History?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:28 am
I agree with johndewar about people being shocked into doing nothing during a complete meltdown. I’m still not convinced the video is real, but that’s mostly because I can’t imagine someone wigging that far the fuck out. I could see throwing a few things, beating the shit out of a computer, or punching the wall. But to go on for like 5 minutes? Has to be staged.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:28 am
yea that sentence looks like a 6 yr old wrote it
June 5th, 2008 at 9:29 am
I can understand people’s hatred of Glavine. That’s why he’s always been a bit inconsistent (meaning, about every 4-5 starts he gets absolutely shellacked), and why he always had a history of having a bad first inning; because his game depended so much on what the strike zone was going to be that night. He wasn’t a “scientist” like Maddux, or a “warrior” like Smoltz. But he still won 300 games, so you gotta give him that…
June 5th, 2008 at 9:30 am
That’s funny…don’t remember his contribution to the Sox. I blame the Keystone Light
June 5th, 2008 at 9:30 am
CRM..Smoltz’s place in history is somewhere between Doug Drabek and Joaquin Andujar
June 5th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Scary when Johnny Damon is the one making the most sense.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:31 am
ATL..my hatred stems from him killing the Mets as a Brave and then Killing the Mets as a Met..I have a lot of Glavine issues I am still sorting through
June 5th, 2008 at 9:34 am
its not your fault
June 5th, 2008 at 9:34 am
RWH – I completely understand. He’s never been one of my favorites. Of course, as a lifelong Braves fan, I like him (I almost have to) but Smoltz is in a different stratosphere.
To me, he’s always been my answer for the “If you could have one active pitcher start a game, who would it be?”
June 5th, 2008 at 9:35 am
I mean Smoltz, of course, not Glavine.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:35 am
As far as pitchers go… I’ll take Clutch over Stats-Happy(Style-n-regular season) Anyday-of-the-Week
So outside of the OBVIOUS (Kofax and Gibson) What MLB pitchers are More-Clutch than Smoltz was for the Braves
BTW – Appreciate the stats @s-w and @Dr.C
June 5th, 2008 at 9:37 am
hey if i couldnt look up those stats i would be the guy wielding a lamp into the copier
June 5th, 2008 at 9:39 am
@RWH. I’m trying to figure out if that is a slam against Juaqin Andujar or not.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:41 am
I hate both those guys I mentioned so it is a slam and a compliment…Met Killers all three
June 5th, 2008 at 9:44 am
I loved watching Maddux and Smotlz for the Braves both are HOF’s. Glavine will get in but I didn’t like watching him.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:45 am
I am trying to remember Andujar killing the Mets when he was with the Cardinals, but maybe it was one of the other teams he was with. It’s hard to hate on him though when he comes into game 7 of the 85 Series down 11-0 and still manages to get booted 2 pitches into it.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:52 am
clearly, you guys need to take this Smoltz beef up with that character.
but sometimes, people just make contrarian opinions, i can’t believe the man actually believes that
June 5th, 2008 at 9:54 am
For instance, when TBL says Bron Bron is on Kobe’s level.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:59 am
It wasn’t Andujar who was the Met killer for the Cards in 85, it was John Tudor.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:01 am
Watching the video of the office blow up… I think it was news that his request for an LCD monitor was once again denied that set him off. “Maybe if I throw this big CRT at someone they’ll understand why I need an LCD… and while I’m at it, maybe I can make some statements about the waste of paper in this office. Oh, and these damn cube panels aren’t properly secured, someone could trip on one whilst dancing on the desks…”
June 5th, 2008 at 10:01 am
Darrell..that was ‘85…Andujar was not fun for a few years
June 5th, 2008 at 10:02 am
Kobe is The MAN (No Doubt) But LBJ went to the FINALS by-Himself last year… THAT is a Major-Accomplishment in itself
At Least Kobe is going with a Legit-Team which means He may ACTUALLY win
June 5th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Speaking of the hall of fame, a guy I work with thinks Robert Horry is a HOF. I think he is out of his mind. Thoughts????
June 5th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Andujar against the Mets Lifetime 14-7 3.23 ERA
June 5th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Robert Horry should be in the HOF. imo
June 5th, 2008 at 10:08 am
I KNOW he’s out-of-his mind… Horry’s IS Good and Clutch
But he played with Power-House talent, The Dream and Shaq/Kobe and Tim Duncan… SHIT Anybody in his position would’ve WON at least 5 Rings by default (Think John Sally, Robert Parrish at the end-of-their-career)
June 5th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Horry > Kobe > Lebron
June 5th, 2008 at 10:11 am
i said i think he should, but i know he doesnt have the stats to get in
June 5th, 2008 at 10:12 am
I don’t know about Horry..I would equate him more to a Mark Lemke or Billy Hatcher…good players that were clutch when it mattered…I would say no…he was never dominant during a season or even a full playoff run..he only hit big shots at the end of games
June 5th, 2008 at 10:16 am
Getting into the Finals via the Leastern Conference is like fingering your own butthole: Anyone can do it (except midgets)
June 5th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Very Funny but I remember LA-Boston dominance during Magic-Bird era and Larry getting to the Finals was FAR-MORE-Brutal than Magic’s path in the West… So in-that-vain I will not diminish LBJ’s accomplishment
June 5th, 2008 at 10:30 am
fixed for recent accuracy
June 5th, 2008 at 10:32 am
Why can’t a midget finger his own butthole?
/not a joke setup. Honest curiosity
June 5th, 2008 at 10:36 am
@Hef – wow…you’re a racist AND a midget-hater.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Hef, i think their arms are too short.
there was a midget at Riversplash (block party) in Milwaukee last weekend. that guy is a fucking riot!!! people were picking him up, putting him on the bar and shit. it was downright rude. but he looked like he was having fun.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:50 am
I’m taking my stuff and going home. I can’t win around here. ATL, I shall examine my belief systems thoroughly.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Hef makes Hitler look like Captain Kangaroo
June 5th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Because of the mustache?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:53 am
I’m quick.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:54 am
yes Hefler..the mustache
June 5th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Hef, I don’t know firsthand if they can finger their own butthole, but I think that if they need this to wipe, then they probably can’t reach their own balloon knot.
June 5th, 2008 at 11:01 am
How does that product not include the phrase “hole in one” in any variation?
June 5th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
@RWH…pre 1984 every pitcher in the National League was a Met killer. I just remember Sutcliffe killing them in 84, Tudor in 85, and Mike Scott in 86.
