College Athletics, Politics June 14th. 2008, 3:40pmWith Tim Russert’s passing yesterday, the examples of his fanhood are coming from every angle. We know he was a tenacious Buffalo Bills fan, but he was also a big supporter of Boston College athletics where his son just graduated.

I was a huge fan of his and it is a tremendous loss for our country. He was simply the best at what he did. I went through phases of watching different Sunday morning shows – from Fox News Sunday to This Week and others, but Russert could not be touched in terms of objectivity, tenacity and fairness. He grilled the crap out of anybody that came on MTP, but was never rude. He was fun to watch and I will miss him terribly Sunday mornings.

Well done CoRM, well done. Not only was he extremely professional, but wasn’t afraid to poke fun at himself either as shown there. A very tragic passing, he will be missed. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends…

Also, this is the best video of my life; what a dad and fan, to subjugate himself to the cause of fun there. As my mom remarked yesterday, at least his family will have lots of great moments captured on film to look back on.
Great journalist, great son, great father, great person. The world is a little darker without Tim Russert’s twinkling eyes.

+1 to all 3 of you above me. I don’t think I could say it any better!

I too grew up in Buffalo, and graduated from the same high school Tim did and was lucky enough to have met him at a couple of fundraisers for the school. He was a GREAT guy, a typical “Buffalo guyâ€, and one of the best journalists of the last 50 years. I think the reason there has been so much coverage of his death (from ALL networks), was that Russert was genuinely liked and respected in the industry. Do you think Keith Olbermann or Bill O’Reilly would get this kind of coverage?? I think not. I also just heard that “Big Russ and Me” is again #1 on Amazon today. A fitting Father’s Day tribute for all Father’s and Sons out there in Tim’s memory!!

That video was actually very funny.
Very sad to see Tim Russert die. I didn’t watch Meet the Press much, but always really enjoyed watching him on NBC talk politics when big things were going on. Just something about him made him very likeable. I think he was a very hard worker and a humble man.
It is amazing to see how much coverage his death is getting, but I think it’s well deserved because he was somewhat of a shining light in the dirty and dark world of politics.

He came off as an incredibly likable guy. He was good at what he did and who could not find his tough but fair Irish middle-class attitude anything but likable. He was literally the only political commentator I could stomach. This is a big loss.

Tim Russert was the only moderator/interviewer who could torch the best and brightest minds our nation had to offer yet never lose his charm and civility. President’s senators, generals, social activists and influential reporters would gladly sit across from him knowing they may end up limping out of the studio with their tales between their legs, but they’d be better for it.
Accountability is the ideal we all want to see in our government, and on a social level no one did a better or more effective job than Russert.
I’m sad for our nation and his family, but very happy that he had just gotten back from vacation with his wife and kid… we should all be so lucky to spend that kind of time with our fathers before they leave us.
