Will the Celtics Finish the Lakers Tonight?
NBA June 17th. 2008, 3:15pm
If you talked to Tim Donaghy today, might he say that he expects the series to go seven? What do you make of this mysterious plane delay? How much longer can we reasonably expect the Celtics to contain Kobe Bryant? LeBron erupted for 45 in game seven in Boston, and who could forget Joe Johnson abusing the Celtics in one of the single greatest performances of this postseason (albeit at home)? Those with a vested interest seem to like the Celtics winning and covering four. We’ll hold off on a pick because we’re curious about the healthy of Kendrick Perkins. But we’re leaning heavily Boston.

I am actually really looking forward to this game tonight. I’d like to see LA push it to seven.
And who here has tried the Heineken draught keg before?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Well I was going to pick the Celtics until I saw the officials calling the game: Joey Crawford, Eddie F. Rush, and Bennett Salvatore.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Mike, I have. What is your question?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Um, does it taste better than the bottles, and does it really stay for 30 days?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
You know who really wins tonight? The Fans.
/Yuck
June 17th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Mike, if you need it to keep for 30 days, the terrorists have truly won.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
@mike NYC- i got the kegerator in my kitchen. My wife likes Heineken. I dont
GO LAKERS
June 17th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
But we’re leaning heavily Boston.
not shocked by that TBL. I bet you may even pop a bottle if Kobe loses tonight
June 17th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
NBA is fixed. it will go 7.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Lakers win tonight, Kobe is overdue to play a full spectacular game.
Heineken light is actually pretty good, surprising since regular Heineken is euro-piss.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
celtics = frauds
go Kobe.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Should we ask David Stern?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Heineken has never been a favorite, tho i had one this weekend and was surprised and enjoyed it.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Touche.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
I think having Bennett Slavatore helps the home team, therefore Boston wins
June 17th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
We all realize irishmafia has the best life of anyone here, right?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Kobe is overdue to play a full spectacular game.
exactly. Kobe has yet to play like we(not TBL) know he is capable of.
I see him shooting like he is going for the scoring title tonight. I might even check in with the ladies on TBL after dark tonight and talk some shit
June 17th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
And Mike NYC, you’ve inspired me to drink tonight. Granted, I find that inspiration in phone calls, dogs, the sky, and Backstreet Boys lyrics, but still…
June 17th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Then it’s settled, everyone drink tonight while watching the game.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Molson used to (still does??) make those. I would get them all the time in college. It does seem kind of superfluous.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
@CRM- we host parties on the weekends. It is called being social and having a life. Try it
June 17th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
As a Laker fan I’m optimistic. I see L.A. winning by 5 tonite.
If its beer I’m a budweiser man. Bud, Bud Ice, Bud light doesn’t matter. If I’m not drinking beer its gotta be Jack, hennessy or svedka.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Piggy-backing off @benji’s commnet…
Who will the Refs allow to win tonight (I think the Lakers)
June 17th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
fixed for awesomeness.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Draught Keg = 4 Hours
1/4 Barrel Keg = 72 Hours
1/2 Barrel Keg = 7 Days
If you are not hitting these numbers then you are having an off week
June 17th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
@irish – Wasn’t a joke bud. A kegerator and a wife who enjoys Heineken sounds like Heaven to me.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
if Garnett doesn’t shit the bed, C’s win
June 17th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
We had a kegerator in under grad, greatest thing ever. Although it was like the very first fridge on Earth and cost us about 50 bucks a month to run, still very worth it. If this was Europe I would drink everyday at noon, but it’s not.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Celtics by 11.
Kobe 10-27 FG.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Europe does have it’s Good-points
June 17th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Anyone else find it odd that the refs tonight are Joey Crawford, Bennett Salvatore and Mike Chioda?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
@Clown – David Stern and his frozen envelopes don’t.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Hence my 3:35pm comment
June 17th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
@CRM- oh im sorry, did i offend you bud. can never tell what comments are serious on this site and what is a joke.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Billy Crystal is a reserve ref tonight.
YYSA, I like those time frames. Are those for a single-parent house?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Nick, we’d put more stock in your “10/27″ prediction, if you wouldn’t have predicted that for the entire Spurs series.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
@irish – Like…right…now… Biscuits!
June 17th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Plus, don’t most of us want to see Boston suffer again like they did for the Super Bowl. They genuinely believe that they deserve to win, wouldn’t it be great to see that whole building wearing the “i’m gonna shit my pants” face on Thursday. Let’s make this happen!
June 17th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
laker will win, see you at game seven !!
/david stern
June 17th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Spurs D (without Manu) gets shit on by Boston.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Pretty sure that’s the Kobe Face, and we may be infringing on his copywright by even typing it.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Definitely. Signigicant others only hinder the inebriation process
June 17th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Just figured out who irish is…
June 17th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Speaking of, this weekend will be the first keg-on-a-boat party of the season. All are invited, lifejackets or waterwings heavily encouraged. And the stripper pole is just about done.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
And more revisionist Jordan history from Simmons today (I think I’m coming out with a book debunking the myth that he shot 70% in NBA finals games while playing 1 on 5 with a blindfold on).
He just keeps saying “Jordan wouldn’t have done this.. and that..etc” Well again, in the first three years that Jordan won titles, he dominated. He shot over 50% against very unathletic teams where he was clearly a man amongst boys (playing against teams where Dan Majerle and John Starks were the second best players..). I think Kobe would have dominated equally in those days, same as LeBron.
Fast forward to his comeback years, and Jordan was far from the player he was in his prime – yet people forget this. They don’t realize he was a jump shooter who shot 46% in those finals games..not awful, but not “Jordanesque”.. He was doing so on a team so well coached and so well put together with role players, that they overcame his poor shooting nights (of which he had 9 out of 17.. his team won 6 of those 9).
June 17th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
^^^just poking you in the ribs, irish
June 17th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Nobody was ripping the Spurs defense until Kobe torched them..
June 17th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Nick, I’d say it’s more the Garnett face.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
It was clearly inferior to Boston’s for the entire year (pesky stats), and with a noticeably hurt Manu, it was even worse.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Nick P, I’m not disputing that, but you’re attempting to diminish what Kobe did against the Spurs.
June 17th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Woah Woah Woah Hold up I will not let shots at my Suns happen. Charles Barkley, Tom Chambers, Kevin Johnson and Dan Majerle.
Please pick the second best player out of that group. If you pick Majerle then you are banned from ‘Ballin’
June 17th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
so what if they do let Kobe explode but contain everyone else?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Straw man
June 17th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
^^^just poking you in the ribs, irish
checking to see if you are part of the MLJ crew, yep. adios
June 17th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Cursed, stats never tell the story, yes Jordan had bad nights, sometimes they lost sometimes they won. However he came up big when needed and did what was necessary to win, which Kobe hasn’t done. Game 4 was must win and he disappeared. Game 5 was must win and he was terrible after the 1st quarter. I like Kobe, think he’s amazing, but he’s no Jordan.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
YYSA, Tom Chambers? Who averaged 6 ppg the year after that..he was done. KJ was one of the better pg’s in the league, but injury prone, if you want to say he was better than Thunder Dan, than that’s cool. But compare that team or the Knicks team with the Celts this year with three elite players, it’s no contest!
June 17th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Not a Serious N.E. fan but If I was part of a 18-0 NFL regular season team, Hell I would “genuinely believe that they deserve to win” Too
June 17th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
@YYSA- Tom Chambers? he could dunk
June 17th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Coop, are you forgetting Kobe’s three title years in which he came up for the Lakers big countless times? Or are you wiping that out b/c he played with Shaq?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Good job on the chat TBL! My boy just got the beertender as an early bday present and boy do I love it….looooooove it
I hate to say it but I think its going to go to 7. Hopefully the celtics can override the bad calls tonight and send the lakers home.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
By the way, that Knicks team that had those “knock em down drag em out ” fights, won 60 games one year! The league was not very good then, can we all admit that?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Isn’t that the motto of this site?
Cursed, I see your points about revisionist Jordan, but KJ was the second best player on the ‘93 Suns, although I seem to recall Majerle guarding Jordan a lot too.
Tonights game should be a war, teams killing themselves to win. Have no idea who wins, but a really close Lakers win wouldn’t surprise me. Also, I don’t expect any “referee/take it to game 7″ nonsense. Here’s hoping for a “Magic baby hook to kill the Celtics in the Garden” moment from Kobe.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
@cursed- John Starks led that team
June 17th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Oh and further proof that Kobe can’t win. Reggie Miller on DP show was killing Kobe for deferring. But he was also the same guy killing Kobe for not deferring those two years against the Suns, when Smush and Kwame were starting. So which is it? He has better talent now right?
He just can’t win.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Those two things aren’t mutually exlusive. Winning ugly is still winning.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
I don’t wipe it out but he was a 20 year old playing second fiddle on a great team. I also don’t forget the 5 game sweep at the hand of the Pistons.
Sam Cassell has two titles playing second fiddle when he was 20, is he elite?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Oh and I’ll be honest, I’ve been largely disappointed by Kobe in this series. And normally I’m an all-out apologist for the guy!
June 17th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
OMG It’s TBIMBD… YES, Spank-Me
June 17th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Best fix in the history of TBL.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Coop, he was playing second fiddle in the first three quarters…not during the 4th quarter when “it counts the most.”
June 17th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
@coop- no he is not. He is ET
June 17th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Can anyone imagine John Starks or Dan Majerle or Craig Ehlo trying to guard LeBron or Kobe today? Folks, the league was just a bunch different back then. I wish people would realize this when comparing players from different eras, hand checks or not.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
Cursed- Who the hell cares about the year after. That year he averaged above 10. KJ was an elite point guard. I would argue that Suns team goes deeper. Besides Thunder Dan is basically Ray Allen. Guy that use to take it to the bucket in his younger years that no settles for the three
June 17th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
Come on, man. Just cause I think LeBron’s a slightly better player than Kobe doesn’t mean anything. I don’t diminish what kobe does at all. He killed the Spurs and he’s struggled to do the same against Boston.
But he’s due. I hope he goes for 40 tonight. I’d love to see it go 7 … hell, I’d love to see the Lakers win.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
I don’t diminish what kobe does at all.
MVP post in the roundup is weak
June 17th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Will the Celtics Finish the Lakers Tonight?
Sweet Lord Baby Jeebus I hope so…
June 17th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Cursed, I would have to look closer at those games, but I know he played very well, however that was a stacked team. He is in the prime of his career right now, he should be better than ever, so why is it that he was better 7 years ago?
And you were belittling the teams Jordan beat, well I wouldn’t exactly call the Nets/Pacers/76ers combo the Lakers beat murderers row.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
I love how everything Kobe did during the 3 championships has zero value cause he wasn’t the number 1 guy. But guess what, he WAS the number one guy in every fourth quarter and every crunch time situation. And in ‘01 and ‘02, (the 2nd and 3rd championships), Kobe was as good if not better than Shaq throughout the entire playoffs, but that gets obscured by Shaq’s dominance in the Finals, when he was having his way with Todd McCollough and Jason Collins.
I guess it’s what have you done for me lately. Everyone only wants to talk about Kobe from 2005 and on, and its understandable cause he’s the #1 guy now, but that shouldn’t diminish what he did, how important he was, and how GREAT he was for the title teams with Shaq. Remember, Shaq didn’t win in LA without Kobe either.
/Kobe doesn’t get enough credit for the 3 rings
June 17th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Guys who guarded Jordan in Finals games included Clyde Drexler (6′7″), Bryon Scott (6′3″), Magic (6′8″), Majerle (6′6″), Gary Payton (6′4″), Byron Russell (6′7″).
I’d hate to accuse anyone of having an agenda against Jordan, but I think calling those guys unathletic might reveal a bias.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
What I’m about to say is the Absolute Truth…
MJ would’ve Killed-it in the 60’s – 70’s – earlt 80’s
MJ Killed-it in the mid-80’s – 90’s
And Trust me MJ would be Killing-it right now today
His Airness transends ANY Era
June 17th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
love how everything Kobe did during the 3 championships has zero value cause he wasn’t the number 1 guy
+1 to you sir
June 17th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
@ Goose that’s one of the best “Kobe” comments I have ever read on this site.
/ starts slow clap
June 17th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
So that’s your argument? Great. Did Shaq ever PLAY in LA without Kobe?
No, but he did in Miami…and won there.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
@Goose… Shaq said himself during the last 2 rings that Kobe was the Man
June 17th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
LeBron erupted for 45 in game seven in Boston
Fuck Lebron and Fuck the Cavs. this site has made me hate both with a passion
June 17th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Kobe is going to do things Jordan never did….like lose in the Finals
June 17th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
You have to understand that the Kobe/Jordan comparison was started by LeBron apologists. When they started losing the best player in the game debate, and saw that Kobe could take the US team to the next level and actually win a game in the finals, they switched the argument.
Jordan is the best. period. we know that.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
kobe sucks
June 17th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
wow Clown, well said
June 17th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
irish…but lebrizzy DID go for 45 against the celts in boston with no help. what the hell is there to hate about that?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Why jealous, irish? ‘Cos they can take more than a game off the Pistons in 2 years?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
You guys do realize that was when Shaq literally averaged 30-15 for the entire playoffs. There are many, many players in this league who could have been the sidekick and have 3 rings.
Irish there’s room in your life for both ManChild and LeGlobal.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
please, i switched my stance from LBJ being the best when i saw my first full Hornets game. CP3 was the best player in the NBA this year, sure as hell not Kobe, LBJ or KG. the fact that CP3 isnt the MVP is fucking bullshit of the highest order, and having Kobe as the MVP while sucking balls when this is what he’s been bitching about for years is crap.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
See 96-97 and 97-98, Kobe’s first 2 years. His rookie season, he did nothing. 2nd year, he was a good player coming off the bench and avering 15. Meanwhile, Shaq was the man and putting up HOF numbers. So, ya, Shaq never played in LA without Kobe, but Kobe wasn’t that big a factor those first few years, and Shaq didn’t win in LA until Kobe got REALLY good.
Also, Shaq won in Miami as the 2nd guy, alongside another amazing (at the time) guard.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
im sick of this kobe talk and hearing people say, “unquestionably the best player in the NBA.”
Kobe: i need help to win a championship
Kupchak: here, Jerry West gave me a present
Kobe: uh…i didnt expect you to actually get me help, now i have to perform when people are watching me intently? uh oh.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
super late today, i damn work. game 7 will happen. then the boston whining will happen about injuries, distractions, call the waaaaaambulance chowderheads!
June 17th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
youre full of some good stuff today sparty…i must have blockquoted you like 20 times today while wetting myself at my desk.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
You know fellas its okay to appreciate that Kobe and Lebron are both great players without always tearing down the other guy.
/trying to be the voice of reason
June 17th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
I know. I personally remember it well. But don’t let that get in the way of all the Kobe haters discrediting him.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
kobe haters > lebron haters
June 17th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
nick p- change my words all you want. you like Lebron, i like Kobe. Deal with it
June 17th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
When one guy averages 29/13 on 57% and 27/11 on 58% compared to another guy’s 29 on 46% and 25 on 47%, the first guy is the “Man,†regardless of what he says in an interview. Don’t kid yourself.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
im sick of this kobe talk and hearing people say, “unquestionably the best player in the NBA.€
he is. It is obvious to people who follow the game of basketball.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
hmmmm, must be the rehab connection…
June 17th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Irish, I like both (one a little more), but I get sick of the Kobe is the greatest crap sometimes. Hes a bad MoFo, no doubt. He’s no Jordan, not close, and never will be. He’s one of the best right now, but I wouldn’t say unequivocally without doubt the best, there’s an argument for several.
Now once he drops 60 tonight we’ll all look like idiots, but I’m used to that.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Kobe’s pissed me off this series. LeBron rules.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
really? it is? UNQUESTIONABLY? 100%, no doubt about it, not a single other option, certain?
give me a fucking break, joe johnson and al horford took the celts to 7. lebron and my aunt took the celts to 7. and while im rooting as much as i can for the Lakers, it doesnt look like Kobe is going to be able to do the same.
he doesn’t suck, but he sure as hell ain’t no. 1.
and, irish, i know you hate all the lebron hype and bullshit that gets thrown around about him around here, but don’t let that get in the way of objectivity.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
it seems like this argument constantly goes in circles. let’s come up with some criteria to compare Lebron and Kobe:
Athleticism
Court Vision
Attitude
Makes Teammates Better
Get Offness
Etc.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
@coop- i have never once compared Kobe to Jordan. that is unfair and plus it isnt even close. I argue the fact that Kobe is better than Lebron.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Athleticism = Lebron
Court Vision = Kobe
Attitude = Lebron
Makes Teammates Better = ?
Get Offness = Lebron (according to the playoffs the past two seasons)
Jump Shot = Kobe
June 17th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
@spencer- there is no point in arguing with you. You still think Duncan is a Center
June 17th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Wouldn’t most people agree that the Celtics are playing massively better this series than they were at the beginning of the playoffs, or even last series?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Nick P: I’m just bringing that up as a way to show that Kobe is not given enough credit on those teams. I agree that Shaq WAS the man for all 3 rings. I’m not delusional.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Get real.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
even i agree with Nick p on that
June 17th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
i wouldnt. they suck.
ok, he’s a PF. care to argue now?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
That’s why this argument can be looked at as pointless. Maybe it’s because the Lakers have a significantly worse defense. Maybe it’s because the Celtics were playing down to their competition.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Wait, lebron has better court vision than kobe? That’s what you guys are saying, right?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
@spencer- your sick of the Kobe talk, im sick of the Lebron talk. I am a Orlando Magic fan who sticks up for the best player in the league on this site. There was no way in hell i was going to let you CAVS fans take over Ballin, no way
June 17th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Athleticism = LeBron
Court Vision = LeBron
Attitude = Draw (I’ve seen LeBron give the same stares and yell at teamates, he also shows up his coach at every chance like Kobe)
Makes Teammates Better = Kobe
Get Offness = Draw
Jump Shot = Kobe
Edge: Push?
/Nick Bakay
June 17th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Best player?…I here no CP3 talk today
June 17th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
So the Hawks are better than the Lakers?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Being a LeHomer I could dispute a few points but at this point in time, yes, that is true, although they aren’t too far apart. Give it few more years and we’ll see what happens.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Sterlin..I love you..but Nick Bakay sucks
June 17th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
/fixed
June 17th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Give it few more years and we’ll see what happens.
by that time, Dwight Howard will own the league
June 17th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
i love CP3. he makes me enjoy basketball.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
irish…im done with this, im leaving it until ballin ‘09. all i know is that when LBJ is winning the MVP next year and taking the Cavs to the finals to smoke Kobe’s Lakers, you better be the first one in line to say, “im a little piggy, oink oink oink.”
June 17th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Good stuff, time to get the hell out of here, hopefully we’ll see some of that Kobe greatness tonight and get us some game 7 action.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
look up a few posts…i was touting him earlier.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
My problem with the Kobe/Lebron argument (besides the fact that we constantly have it) is we always throw Bron Brons Athleticism in there..now is it important..sure but it is not what makes a great player..Larry Bird was not Athletic but he was a Great Basketball Player, we tend to believe that the two are intertwined when they don’t need to be (and I know Kobe is athletic)
June 17th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
spencer…I never learned to read
June 17th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Nobody gets off like Kobe. *avoiding the easy jokes*
Although I admit he hasn’t in a while. But we cant forget the 9 straight 40 points, 4 straight 50 points, record 12 3s in a game, 81 etc…

Arguments like this make me glad I don’t like the NBA.

sparty…so do I…the World Champion New York Football Giants > Kobe and Lebron together
June 17th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
you don’t have to be above-average-athletic to be a great b-ball player, but it sure helps your case. would you consider lebron or kobe better than larry?

A lot of people think Kobe/Lebron debates are what really infuriates Irish. But I know the truth….

I was the odd man out the last home opener after they won Super Bowl 25. I cannot wait for September 4th. Throw in an all day tailgate (78,000 people drinking) and the rival deadskins…East Rutherford is going to explode.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
this could get ugly…that will piss him off.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
@nick… You know how we feel about STATS justifying anything but I’m not going to dispute yours… What I will say is Shaq Truly-respected the fact that Kobe came through in the Clutch when They-Needed-Him the most
And that speaks volumes to his Role on those championship teams
June 17th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Shaq also respected Big Shot Bob’s clutchness…
June 17th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Oh to be Big shot Bob, make a few and i do mean a FEW baskets and all of the sudden you are clutch
June 17th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
@Chi: I’m not taking anything away from Kobe the role player on the Lakers title teams. He could even come to Clev to be Lebron’s little buddy/second banana. He’d be a fine second or third option on the Cavs.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
@sparty… We all know that the Big Aristotle is a jokester
June 17th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
just when the commentary starts to wane…nick p. stirs it back up…
June 17th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
@nick p.-lol, seriously, lol at that
June 17th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
honestly I got a kick out of that too. good one.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
I could see the Cavs trading for him… as long as they don’t have to give up Boobie Gibson or Wally
June 17th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Damn just got back from work and had to catch up on reading the comments. Again, lol at what nick p. just said. Please tell me you were kidding about “kobe the role player”.
Anyway, as a beyond avid Bulls fan, I will be the first to say that Kobe is no MJ. That’s a silly comparison to make at this point. Does he have the potential to eventually put himself legitimately in the same conversation? I think so. But it has to start with him destroying Boston in the next 2 games. It does piss me off at all the heat Kobe has taken for not really performing that well, when the Boston defense is geared towards double and triple teaming him. And yes, I know they used similar D against Lebron, and he sucked too, arguably much worse. People keep bringing up how the Cavs took Boston to 7, so Lebron must be better. That’s bullshit. Lebron was essentially saved by his team to get to that 7th game, and he finally broke out in the 7th. That’s great, but the Cavs still lost. If Kobe scores 45 tonight, shoots 14/29 and 3/11 from 3, with only 6 assists, and only one other guy on his team in double figures, all while the Lakers lose, he will be KILLED by a ton of people. But Lebron is praised and hailed after that game. Never made sense to me.

Good points, chicago. It always seems that the media is making excuses for LeGlobal (it’s as if they desperately want him and not Kobe to the heir apparent to Jordan; clearly none of them are) while bashing Kobe for every thing he does wrong. Maybe its based on the fact that Kobe’s past is a bit checkered (so is Lebron’s), maybe it’s because David Stern wants LeBron to be the face of the league. In light of recent events, I’m saying this is a ploy by Stern, who invested millions of marketing dollars towards hyping Bron.

Lakers in 7. Mark it on your calendars.
