Whoa. Terry Bradshaw Used Steroids in the 70’s?
Drugs June 23rd. 2008, 5:50pm
Apparently, Bradshaw went on Dan Patrick’s radio show Thursday and admitted to using steroids to help “heal quicker” in the 1970s.
“My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injuries…and thought nothing of it. It was to speed up the healing process, that was it. It wasn’t to get bigger and faster.”
Should we care? It’s not like he was integral to their Super Bowl victories - the defense was dominant. (Though we should add Bradshaw was impressive in the 1980 SB.) Still, if in 2036, Tom Brady shows up and says he used roids with the Patriots … would there be an outcry?

I imagine in 2036 everybody would say the same thing folks will be saying about the 70s… “Didn’t everyone use steroids back then?”

That one might come back to bite you.

I’ve heard it mentioned off the record that ALL the Steelers of that era were hopped to the gills on steroids, which is why they managed to draft three thousand Hall of Famers in one draft.

Super Bowl XIII:
“Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw was named Super Bowl MVP. Despite throwing 1 interception and losing 2 fumbles, Bradshaw completed 17 out of 30 passes for 318 yards and 4 touchdowns. His 318 passing yards and 4 passing touchdowns broke Super Bowl records. Also, his 75-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter tied Johnny Unitas in Super Bowl V for the longest in a Super Bowl. Bradshaw became the first player since the 1970 AFL-NFL Merger to win both the Super Bowl MVP and the AP Most Valuable Player Award during the same season.”

And probably a contributing factor as to why so many of them are dying young.
Roids are a nasty beast, and former Steelers are dropping off at a rate higher than that of pro wrestlers.

Here’s an article, I guess. This isn’t where I read about it, but it’s all I could find with a quick search.

What does it matter at this point? Are ya gonna try to take away the titles and MVP awards…… Lets assume everyone was using steroids and move on.

Aren’t steroids created for that purpose? To help healing and proper medical etc. etc.? Unless he’s lying, and did use it to get bigger, stronger, faster, etc

Oh for chrissakes. Almost every athlete uses steroids to help with injuries and the healing process. Cortisone, anyone?

I got a cycle right now, and the results are tremendous. They should just let everyone do it. If they wanna have a liver transplant by the time they are 45, so be it.

It doesn’t look like it is that big of news if Bradshaw said it on Thursday and we are only now beginning to hear about it. Now if it were somebody like Montana or Marino admitting to using it, would it be a huge story?

Who the fuck is Tom Brady?

“Welcome legion of fans. Today we found out that Will Leitch is the new editor of the internet so our posts might be coming to you slower than usual.” Hef
Very nicely done, Hef. I would have posted this on your site, but I can’t remember my wordpress password.
I found it a bit specious that Leitch decided to have a strong opinion on something the week before he leaves. I love me some Deadspin and enjoy Letich’s prose, but he didn’t even get that pissed off about the Buzz Incident. Quite a confusing opinion. I will give him credit for getting on Daulerio as well since he is a Gawker employee and future editor of Deadspin. This is TBL’s blog and he can do whatever the hell he wants with it.

KC, is your screen name different at my site?

Hef -
I’ve never posted. I guess Wordpress sites use all the names and passwords for all their sites. While not the biggest MLB fan, I’ve perused you site over the past month and enjoy it. I didn’t realize that half of the TBL regular commenters ran it. I get a kick out of the commenters here and like your guys’ site enough, I’ll get it worked out.

KC…Its 8 of TBL’s best commenters and Gonzo

Oh and with Terry Bradshaw…since it is assumed and accepted that everyone in the NFL does roids or some variation anyway…I am sure Brady saying something in 2036 would not resonate..it’s not like he used a camcorder to capture sideline signals or anything..now thats some cheatin’

Wrong. Tom Brady saying this would be the scandal of the century. No matter if other people have used steroids too. Just look at the (lack of) response to Jimmy Johnson saying he taped signals when he was with the 90’s Cowboys(you know, the team that one 3 Superbowls, just like the Patriots…)

Why shouldn’t athletes take something to help them heal faster?
We really have to get over it

Oddly, this story kind of popped today. I’ve got tennis on TV and the scrawl at the bottom keeps mentioning Bradshaw
