NBA Draft, 2nd Round
NBA June 26th. 2008, 10:32pm
Poor Darrell Arthur. He was supposed to be a lottery lock, and then he slid all the way down to 27th and Portland because some previously unreported kidney issues bubbled up. The real loser? DeAndre Jordan, who left Texas A&M early, and then didn’t get a guaranteed contract. Ouch.
We won’t update 2nd round picks as they happen, but we’ll be mocking them in the comments.

Go Cavs
June 26th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
JR Giddens is a cocksucker, fits right in in Boston
June 26th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
if Darrell is healthy for years to come, he’ll look back on this and laugh, if not, he should be happy he was drafted at all
June 26th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
what the hell are the grizzlies doing?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
It deserves to be repeated. Talk about a reach. Pierce better watch his back. Giddens has a tendancy to stab people.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Fetch, i never imagined you’d say such things
June 26th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Wow, fetch loves Giddens.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
I wouldn’t mind Jordon as a 2nd rounder. 2nd coming of (a bigger) Carl Landry?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
I can’t believe they didn’t grab CDR…mind boggling
June 26th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Call me crazy, but doesn’t CDR seem like a smarter pick than Giddens? If not for his teammates safety alone?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
caught the 1st pick on ESPNRAdio on the way home from work. Here was Gottlieb’s take on Rose, “…he’s 6′-2.5″ with his shoes on and 6′-4.5″ with his shoes off…”
So, assuming Douger forgot that most people are shorter when the take off their shoes, then he’s claiming Rose wears platform kicks on the court. 2″ is quite a sole thickness.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
hmm, maybe i didn’t follow Giddens closely, did he stab someone?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
I know nothing about Giddens. Did he really stab someone? I’ve never heard this. Anyone got a link?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
sparty…the World Champion New York Football Giants announced the PSLs today
June 26th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
anyone else see that IDIOTIC rant by Vitale? Man, what a dick. He had to mention North Carolina. Assclown
June 26th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
What did I miss? I got bored (more annoyed) and switched over to Batman Begins
June 26th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Vitale, how can anyone LOVE duke and UNC????
June 26th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Giddens started a fight in which he got stabbed.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
onterio and rocket, he stabbed someone in the ankle at a bar in Lawrence during a fight.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Viatle looks like shit tonight..well more so than usual
June 26th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Sidenote, how badass does The Dark Knight look?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
New Rule (To steal a bit from Bill Maher): They should let Alex Trebek announced the second round of the NBA draft - does anyone do the native accents better?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
In the ankle? Who stabs someone in the ankle?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
DJ White to Seattle…not bad for Durant
June 26th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
@Billy Buckner
I am stoked. I have held out all summer, just so I can see TDK
June 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
What, is Stern too lazy to continue walking to the podium every five minutes?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Bill Maher talked about the NBA Draft?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Alright, I have to ask, all homerism aside: How is Chalmers not better than any of these guys?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
all those looking forward to TDK read the rolling stone review of it, it will get u very fired up
June 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
I’m back, and two things:
1) Did I miss any IUPUI (ooo-eee-puu-eee) jokes when Hill was drafted?
2) Oh, and I didn’t get a chance to say this about Thompson earlier, but the competition he played in the MAAC was pretty darn tough. Remember, the team to come out of the MAAC last year was Siena, who beat Stanford in the regular season and upset Vandy in the tournament.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
I still have CDR on my draft board, is this correct?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
/ fixed
June 26th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Yeah, I’m can’t wait. That’s one movie I’ll see at midnight.
Larry Brown getting booed, gotta love NYC for once.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
fetch…becaue he made one lucky shot and these guys are true basketball players with upside and length…that is what I learned
June 26th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I have no rooting interest what so ever, yet I fucking hate Larry Brown
June 26th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Roman, I think you mean because he was the second best perimeter defender in the country.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Dorsey is clearly thinking, “What the fuck are you hugging her for? I got drafted you dumb bitch. And get off the suit.”
June 26th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Iggy, that night that Thompson lit up the Pepsi arena with his awesomeness is a MAAC moment I will never forget…and can someone please explain to me why Manhattan College is not in Manhattan..it has bothered me for years
/MAAC talk you gotta love it
June 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
OMG! The Memphis guys haven’t been picked!
June 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
fetch…so when he gets picked…I am not going to see Defense under Needs to Improve..I think 27 of the 30 first round picks had that..thats real promising
June 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
And the Jail Blazers are back
June 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
who got dorsey? has anybody picked up CDR?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
No Memphis guys CRM…Worldwide Wes is going to be pissed
June 26th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Wow, you were right about that Rolling Stone review. Fuck, I’m more excited. Balderdash.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
@ TBL (not that you care): Batum just said in that ESPN Draft chat thing that he entered the NBA Draft to play in the NBA and he wants to play for Houston this year. Wishful thinking on my part? He can learn on the floor right?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Well, I guess I’m a T-Wolves fan. Fuck.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Go T-Wolves!
/Fetch
June 26th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
superindentent Chalmers is taken
June 26th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
fetch..its never promising when a PG needs to improve his point guard skills..hence second round
June 26th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
How did Doresy get picked before CDR?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
/fixed
June 26th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
On the plus side, Chalmers can play right away, no matter what Randy Foye supporters say.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
ahh fetch…your so cute..let me tussle your hair
June 26th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Roman he’s a combo guy, not a point guard. He hasn’t played point since his senior year of high school.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Steal of the draft - Jordan
June 26th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
ahh Roman you’re so cute, let me change your depends and get you some afternoon tea before your bridge game.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
well fetch at 6′2″ 182lb..he better get a handle on the ball
June 26th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
@Roman: I heard that was a really exciting tournament with Rider, Siena, Loyola, Marist, and Niagra. Most mid-major tourneys are thrilling in their own way. Except my school’s conference is run by stuffy blowhards that won’t allow one. %@#$ Ivy.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
fetch, you can always support the Russian team that signed Kaun.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
iggy…follow the MAAC but I am a huge CAA guy..to go along with my Big East Hard On…I am a St.John’s guy and a Hofstra guy…it was easier when Hofstra was in the Patriot League but this is better for the program…
June 26th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
iggy- not to mention they don’t let their football teams play in the playoffs, even though half the time the Ivy league winner would be at least a semifinal team.
Triston- The jersey is in the mail.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Fetch, I wouldn’t be happy about drafting Chalmers. Yes, we needed a PG, but I think picking Jordan instead of Chalmers would have made sense. The question is, what do we do with Telfair & McCants now?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
fetch - They say they don’t accept a bid to the tournament because it takes place during exams. Which is a load of crap! Especially since Harvard and Penn are usually the teams that win the league, with their grade inflation, their players can skip exams and still get no worse than Bs.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
iggy, i go to loyola and was at the Rider game. Jason Thompson was the biggest player on the floor, he didnt dominate at all, especially inside. just a average game. if you want domination in the MAAC, Charron Fisher fron Niagara is your man.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Mozatta. Telfair is still in the league? I figured he’d be on the “Surreal Life” by now.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Do the Bucks know they need other positions other than SF?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
but looking at the stats, he did go for 24 and 10
June 26th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Mozatta- I’ve been a Wolves fan for like 5 minutes now, but I suppose Telfair and McCants get traded? Telfair is absolutely awful so I don’t think they’d get much for him, but they probably could for McCants.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
should the Bulls take CDR here? I always loved the way he played when I saw him (admittedly, only the tournament games, and like 2 regular season games). Of course there’s the whole issue of us having like 48 guards.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
and he had double-doubles in all 3 games against siena including 26 points and 24 rebounds in one game. maybe you got me here, but he didn’t seem to dominate like you want a lottery pick to. small sample size perhaps.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
roman - I follow the Ivy now, of course, and keep in touch on the east coast mid-majors (CAA, MAAC, America East), but I’ve always gone for the A-10 first, having grown up a GW fan. Another side effect of growing up a GW fan: I enjoy Maryland failing.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
just got out of the shower, missed the last few picks … anything big happen?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Dorsey to Portland - nice! His boy Oden is there! Ha!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
By the way, I thought Norm Chad was unfairly disrespected in here before! He had some great lines (like the one about the nightly news covering the world in a half hour, but Sportcenter needs two hours to cover just sports).
June 26th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
A-10 is a weird league…its like 4 majors and the rest are Mids in my eyes..tough league..and the Nets get CDR
June 26th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
CDR me ASAP!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
cursed..that was just awful
June 26th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
who the fuck is sonny weems? has anyone heard of these guy? the bulls take a shooting guard, but not CDR? i’ve got a serious problem with that pick, unless someone can tell me something awesome about this sonny weems guy.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
@cursed: It wasn’t unfair. The first thirty minutes were awful. (I think it only lasted 32 minutes).
June 26th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Sonny Weems has a cool fucking name
June 26th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Telfair is in the league. He did decent for us last year. Then again, when Telfair is the 2nd best PG on your team, you’re in trouble. I just hope we keep Jaric around so we can stare at Adriana Lima.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
whoever is next should pick CDR. that will be the steal of the draft. dude is a baller.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
I like the CDR pick by NJ. When Vice Carter pulls his pussy like he does every year, CDR will get nice minutes.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Hey Cl thinks CDR is a hell of a player..I’m sold
June 26th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
The deck was stacked against him, the questions were all nonsensical, as if people were looking for non-stop humor. It would be very tough to turn that into good stuff.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
I’m so upset right now about the bulls passing on CDR. I don’t understand why we would pick sonny weems. fuck.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
finally…shit. now I can go to bed.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
cursed..i never cared for Norman Chad..no hatred…just never cared..and he brought nothing but hacky one liners to the table..I am sorry..not funny..not that the questions helped..it was like the worst fucking straight guy in history…it would be like interviewing me and all I made was fetch jokes..the occasional joke or hell column is funny not a live chat
June 26th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
@TBL: Sacto didn’t screw this up. They needed a PG and I love me some Singletary.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Yes, Rockets, agreed. I think their first round pick was a bad one, though.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
I missed the Norman Chad item while at work. I enjoy his work most times. I’m biased though because he had his “Ask Couch Slouch” contest thing several years ago (maybe he still does it) and totally sent me $1.25. I was in high school so I thought it was pretty cool.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
RWH, fair enough, but isn’t the whole site just a bunch of hacky one-liners? I thought it would play much, much better than it did.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Patrick Jt…baby..he is going to be a big time energy guy..unfortunately he is going to a shitty team
June 26th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
TBL, Pat Ewing Jr?! Take back what I said. Delete it and we will pretend it never happened.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Bird looks exasperated
June 26th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
cursed..just an example..I am not a Lebatard fan (sorry cortes)..I think he is over the top and I never thought he was that great..after the live chat..whole new respect..he is alright..I wanted that Norm Chad live chat..not some rehashed shit from his columns
June 26th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
I just guess people have inflated expectations sometimes. I can watch a standup comic and appreciate the attempts even though I might not be into the humor. I think Opie and Anthony are hysterical, but that doesn’t mean I’m laughing from the moment the show starts till it ends, doesn’t mean I’m not necessarily entertained.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
cursed I am not looking for that either…I am looking for the real guy..what that was today was the facade that is Norm Chad doing his schtick…Lebatard gave you something…Telander gave you something..Whitlock gave us the whole fucking store…I want that…it was almost like we were just ready to serve up his easy question and let him joke..and well he didn’t do that well either
June 26th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Ewing Jr, as Bilas said, is an energy guy. Play him in spurts off the bench and he’s a run and jump guy who plays defense. Experienced, too. good 2nd round value, IMO
June 26th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Rumor over in the ESPN chat: Knicks/Bobcats discussing David Lee for Ray Felton deal. Doesn’t that go against the Bobcats philosophy of having as many UNC players as possible?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
TBL..I love Pat Jr…I have been talking him up for months (when asked) he will be great when he gets on a playoff team
June 26th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Lee for Felton…NOOOOOOO…come on..I am not stupid enough to think Lee for Kobe or something but go get a player that works..Ray Felton is not that type of player..the Knicks have Feltons
June 26th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
mmonast..what the fuck are the Cavs…he ain’t leaving Worthy and Kareem…In Cleveland he is a Superstar Basketball Player..in NY he is the Global Icon..his dream..I am sorry..I am not pulling for it (I would rather him be a knick) but it is happening..they will build that team with him there
Is this Dan Le Batard…
June 26th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
And the player with the hottest wife goes off the board.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Size Queen…Lebetard wished he had my flavor…hows your knee…got any Oxycontins
June 26th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
I’m with you Roman. It makes no sense to me. Then again, Donnie Walsh and LB are buddies, so maybe they do a little “you take some crap for me here, and I’ll help you later.”
June 26th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Am I crazy to think Bill Walker is a steal?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
but Lee is a useful player…maybe there is something else there
June 26th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
RWH, I’m high as a kite. They switched my over to Percocets this week from Oxys.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
I was saying as far as taking Felton was concerned. I love D. Lee. Every team needs a guy like that. My brother is a die hard Knicks fan and and he only likes D. Lee. He is ok with Crawford (only crunch time scorer) and Balkman (same purpose of D. Lee)
June 26th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Portland is going to have an average age of like 25.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
who?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
TBL- Trent Plaisted. Just gorgeous.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
she looks like the girl you take home at 2AM.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
really, gonzo? You come out of the woodwork for that? And wow, Shane Foster…
June 26th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Alright, Darnell!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
I know I had a lot to say this basketball season, but it really bores me. No one should pay attention to anything I say.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
I’ve stayed up this late to see who my Rockets take in the 2nd round. The odds of me knowing who this guy is now and 5 years from now are incredibly small.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
How are some of these guys going above James Gist?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
NICE WORK, fetch! !!!!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
First time since 85 two Oregon players were drafted? Weren’t Luke Ridnour and Luke Jackson both drafted? Or was it different years?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Go Heat! Chalmers could start immediately there.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
I’m talking to myself here, but the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Rockets are getting Donte Green and Joey Doresy for French boy.
And I have no idea who they just picked in the 2nd round.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Fetch: Different years. Luke Jackson was the year before Ridnour.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Uh oh, a future jail blazer?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
There’s your boy SQ
June 26th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
No Russia for Sasha Kaun (until next year )
June 26th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
RWH on ESPN radio coverage, they were saying that Sasha probably will go to Russia for a year or two before coming over. Maybe I misunderstood.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
fetch! welcome to the heat bro.. beasley, jackson and chalmers. i love it riley!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Yeah baby, go Heat! BTW all you TWolves fans, it was fun being one of you for 40 minutes or so. Hopefully the Heat can get on national TV a couple times due to wade and beasley so I can watch them.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
don’t forget fetch we also have that sack of kansas potatoes otherwise known as wayne simeion. so enjoy.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Heat miss the playoffs again. Wade plays only 40 games after getting hurt during the Olympics. Book it.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
clown, you whore!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
Gist might needs a good coach like Paps. The kid might have a decent NBA career.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:00 am
*Pops
June 27th, 2008 at 12:00 am
Oh yeah I forgot about Simien. He’s dead to me after missing that shot against Bucknell.
By the way, how come there are so many guys in this draft who don’t know how to talk? The Lopez twins, Rose, Beasley, good lord.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:20 am
anyone else catch Scott Van Pelt’s message to Leitch? just a great as Simmon’s roast.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:47 am
Questionable kidney-problem, 27th pick & $977,000 w/ Portland
Introducing Darrell “Good Things Comes to Those that Wait” Arthur
June 27th, 2008 at 4:42 am
Blazers traded Dorsey and Arthur for Nicolas Batum. Their average age (according to the Oregonian) is now 24.7. The Blazers drafted 5 players and traded all 5 of them.
June 27th, 2008 at 4:50 am
PG: Blake, Bayless, Rodriguez
SG: Roy, Fernandez
SF: Outlaw, Webster
PF: Aldridge, Frye
C: Oden, Pryzbilla, LaFrenz
June 27th, 2008 at 8:44 am
PG: Blake, Bayless, Rodriguez
SG: Roy, Fernandez
SF: Outlaw, Webster
PF: Aldridge, Frye
C: Oden, Pryzbilla, LaFrenz
that doesnt look intimidating at all. I loved how the PTI guys were ripping on Greg Oden yesterday calling him “brittle”.
I also love the fact that Portland drafted another big man from overseas. No confidence in Oden?
June 27th, 2008 at 8:50 am
kindly save your orlando magic comments for a later post, sir
June 27th, 2008 at 8:51 am
yes master
